just a warning... these things are very microphonic. If you use them as distance mics, they are decent, even good imo. But on vocals, which is the main application, they can suffer in this department. If you lightly tap them, you'll hear ringing. First time I heard it on a guitar amp, I thought it was the acoustic guitars in the live room somehow being picked up. Shame. If you get one, I suggest distance micing as much as you can get away with.4 points

No fancy UI but Airwindows also has some console emulation options for free. https://www.airwindows.com/category/consoles/ FrontDAW by United Plugins was given away for free at launch and has seen some updates since (basically a saturation plugin with different flavors) Sonimus had a stripped down version of Statson with CM music magazine for over a decade. Quite a few options on the market - and hard to beat some of the PA ones if you get them at a steep discount, especially the 9099 Neve style or 9000J SSL one.4 points

one thing to note, with ARC X I had to do a firmware update on my ARC Studio for compatibility. This firmware update made it incompatible with ARC 4. Be certain you want to move forward to ARC X before doing the firmware update.4 points

I just noticed that SSL supports now only installation with their IM (they're not the only company doing this). That's quite crazy for an iLok company IMHO! This 10-doubles the system resources (and time) required to install one single plugin. Why do the young generation university people always make our life so troublesome and elaborately? That's why I had to assemble my own zip files for installation on my offline system! Mad!3 points

Certainly in the UK, it's exactly the same with utility companies, phone companies, Internet Service Providers etc. They always offer deals for new customers but the existing ones are left paying full price.3 points

Why copy the data to a new track when you can just change the output of the track to the new synth?3 points

When I was looking for a good de-esser a while back, and thinking that SSL should make some of the highest quality plugins, when the Vocalstrip was on sale for about $7 back then, I bought it. I like to test plugins in DDMF's Plugin Doctor, and I was disappointed to discover that the de-esser and de-ploser knobs were nothing more than EQ under different names. There was nothing about the plugin that made it more appealing than anything else I already have sound-wise. I'm glad I only paid $7 for it, I don't think I will ever use it. I don't have any experience with the Drumstrip or Guitarstrip.3 points

Exactly. The more code you ask for in your application the more bugs you get. Keep it simple. A professional engineer will be using the correct software to master with. That is rarely going to be a DAW. And as @Helios.G said that is part of what you pay for when you upload your songs to a distributor. Possibly even Bandlab offers this as part of the membership fee. It is generally not something recording engineers would concern themselves with so not even on the radar of Daw development.3 points

I have the N console and the older version Britson. Another thing to consider is to mix the song in Harrison Mixbus. I don't use either often. They're kind of like tape sims. Very hard to hear until they make the sound worse.3 points

Finally!!! All they need now is the option to drag an impulse response onto the plugin to use it instead of going through the folders. This is a fantastic (free) plugin!3 points

Thanks everybody for your sound advice. My error was assuming that idle keyboard MIDI controllers were not sending any data. I have a MIDI Solutions Footswitch Controller box that allows me to change the MIDI channel directly from the keyboard. I disconnected the box from the M-AUDIO MIDISPORT and the problem was fixed.3 points

In the Tools module of the Control Bar, select the Draw (Pencil) tool, right-click it and choose 'Line'. As you draw over existing velocities, it will 'trim' them to form a straight line between the start and end points of your drag.3 points

ARC Studio with the ARC software has easily been one of my BEST purchases over the years. Seriously!3 points

I’ll just add that Melodyne, especially the full version, can be used for a whole lot more than just vocal pitch correction. It’s an audio editor on steroids. A simple way of thinking about it is it turns audio tracks into a type of midi track. Most of the things that you can edit in midi can be edited in a similar manner. Pitch. Timing and Amplitude among them. I think the mistake new users make is not watching the most excellent video tutorials produced by Celemony. I almost never even use it to pitch correct my lead vocals. Im not a fan of that. But boy do I lay it on the harmonies. I think creating outstanding harmonies is where Melodyne shines. I do my best to sing them correctly but the ability to then edit the pitch. Timing and levels is amazing. The other huge lifesaver is tweaking guitar chords. I have arthritis and my playing is becoming sloppy with unwanted notes happening. No prob, seek and destroy. I just recorded a live band and the bass player had made a few boners. When I sent them the mix down he was wondering what happened to them because he most certainly remembers screwing up! Anyways to me Melodyne was the best investment in recording software I have ever made. I got it for about half price by upgrading it every Black Friday over a few years.3 points

Depending on selected track colors, the knobs sometimes almost disappear into the background due to lack of contrast. I know we’re all waiting for enhancements to the color settings, but in the meantime, maybe just a simple black circle could be added around each knob? I think that would improve the contrast quite significantly without that much effort. Something like this:2 points

In truth I don't think there's actaully much of need to distinguish them except when the discussion is about what features are excluded from Snr.2 points

When CbB didn’t have any official abbreviations my favourite was “Bonar”. Roland versions were a normal software numbering system but then they changed the graphics and released the X series and started over. But was pretty easy to distinguish between Sonar 3 and X3. Gibson took over I think with X2 but totally scrapped the numbers with the release of Platinum series. This has created confusion over which version a user is talking about ever since then. The version numbers are long and I personally have never managed to remember what the version I was using was. At least changing the name from Platinum to Cakewalk was easy but then people always had to be asked what version they were referring to. Deciding to return to calling it Sonar now has created even more confusion because there are still people using Gibson versions as well as even if someone is using the new Sonar they still seem to call it Cakewalk or very often Bandlab. I like dates so I’ve been calling it Sonar 2025. I like that- $onar! That might catch on.2 points

I'm getting this also. The problem seems to only be initiated when opening Sonar. The first project selected now displays with all tracks minimalized (collapsed). Then the second, and any subsequent projects opened display ok, with the correct (saved) track heights. Closing an individual project and reopening it - without closing the Sonar program - does not mess things up, but it's when I completely close Sonar and then come back - the first project opened has this problem. The program seems to be imposing a default display setting on the first file opened instead of preserving the saved settings.2 points
