I don't care what some of you think of his moderation approach, but there IS a real person under all that fur so please keep any negatives out of this thread! I was just informed that the Wookiee is currently hospitalized and having a triple heart bypass! Most have no idea of what he deals with in his "normal" life (and it's not for me to go into that), but I wanted all of you to be aware of his current situation so we can all send positive thoughts his way! Get better soon Wooks!25 points

This is the first of our new, bi-weekly product updates relevant to all of our software. Our goal is simple: to be transparent about what we’re working on and why. We've been heads-down, not just on small fixes, but on a series of major updates designed to address your most frequent requests. Here are some of our immediate priorities: Color customization We are in the process of refining our existing themes and bringing new color theme customization capabilities. We look forward to posting more about this soon! Stability We remain dedicated to hunting down and resolving other reported differences in behavior between CbB and Sonar to ensure a seamless transition for those of you still on CbB. With our focus shifted to Cakewalk Sonar, we've made numerous improvements. Widespread field testing has revealed a few regressions that we’re happy to report are now fixed, including a fix for virtual desktop window support, which arose from high DPI support changes. Core Plugins (Early Preview) We recently announced the availability of Cakewalk Core plugins, a suite of essential, high-quality, low-CPU track effects. An update with improvements and a new plugin is coming within a few days. NEW: Spatial Panner - a perceptual sound panner with Doppler and attenuation rendering, and graphical path editing for immersive automated panning effects. Phase scope visualizer - Core Phase now has a scope display that provides a real-time visualization of the stereo relationship between the left and right channels of an audio signal. Sonar’s preset manager now has direct access to factory presets and will automatically migrate any Sonitus user presets you may have saved previously. UI refinements Read more about the Core plugins here On the horizon We are working on bringing more instruments and effects, track management improvements, and a novel workflow enhancement that could be a game changer for many. These are just a few of our priorities, with your feedback continuing to be a key driver of our roadmap. We’ll be back in two weeks with another update! Best regards, The Cakewalk Team21 points

Thanks. We're getting a lot of new users signing on and spotting random things that have not been seen previously because everyone has different workflow. Thats a good thing since it makes it better for everyone as long as the problems are reported clearly to us rather than vague reports. We're able to fix things very quickly 99% of the time when its described properly. In this month itself we have fixed about 50 bugs! A few users have the misconception that all bugs should be found in beta. In practice nothing could be further from the truth. Our internal QA and Beta team typically finds the most serious bugs but not those that are project specific or workflow dependent. Sonar is an incredibly complex program with millions of ways it could be used. We could be in beta for 10 years and you'd still find oddball cases when its exposed to hundreds of thousands of users because of variations in systems and workflow. It's just the way things are for all software like this. So, if you have an issue, it's in your best interest (and others as well) to report it concisely and calmly to us and work with us if necessary, until its resolved. Also, keep in mind that not everything you happen to notice is going to be a bug. Before reporting something please make sure you understand the feature and check the documentation before calling it out as a bug. This will be appreciated since it saves us time wading through reports of irrelevant issues.16 points

Yesterday was my birthday, so my oldest friend in the world treated me to dinner and a show - Booker T Jones at the Mount Baker Theater in Bellingham, WA. As we're all aware, you never know what you're going to get with nostalgia acts. I am actually a little fearful of going to see the heroes of my youth, lest they disappoint me. I'd rather remember them as they were at their peak than as somebody just continuing to do it because they've got bills to pay and can't do anything else. So I didn't know what to expect going in. How do you stretch Green Onions into a 2-hour show? I was afraid it might just be another legacy act getting a patter of applause from polite boomers. Of all the scenarios I anticipated, what I did not expect was a frickin' transcendent experience. My first clue that the show wouldn't be anything I'd expected was the intro to the first song, before Booker came on stage. The band was frickin' amazing - just bass, drums and guitar, no backing singers, no horn section, and most notably, no damn backing tracks. And the guitarist was truly phenomenal. Not just technically - he did have some impressive chops - but he had dynamics and soulful inflection to rival David Gilmour. The whole band had lift-you-outa-your-seat dynamics, but it was the guitar picker who stole the show. I wondered "who is this guy, and why ain't he famous already?" Then he steps to the mic and introduces Booker as "my dad, Booker T. Jones". I realized that this guy, whose name is Ted Jones, probably grew up sitting in the recording studio watching his dad produce hundreds of artists and soaking up decades of wisdom. Every song of the night was an absolute treat. At one point, father and son did a duo, both on guitars for a cover of Purple Rain. Holy guacamole, it was so good, and I don't even like that song. I don't know what to call their style. Progressive Blues, if that's a thing. Imagine if Pink Floyd became a blues band and stripped down the show to its essence. Whatever it is, I came away from the experience absolutely chuffed to be a musician. After all, Booker is way older than me and if he can still do it, I've got no excuses. Then again, I doubt he helped carry in his B3.15 points

Hi everyone, We’ve been listening closely to feedback from across the Cakewalk community, and we want to address some of the main concerns around the transition from Cakewalk by BandLab (CbB) to Sonar. Extended access to CbB We’ve extended CbB access through September 30 to give you more time to plan, prepare, and transition at your own pace. We heard that the original timeline felt too short, and we agree that more breathing room will help make the process smoother. Sonar is still Cakewalk at its core Sonar builds on the same workflow and feature depth that long-time users rely on, with significant performance and stability upgrades under the hood, including a modernized engine, improved handling of heavy project loads, and better support for high-resolution displays. If you’re coming from CbB, it will feel familiar, but faster, sharper, and ready for what’s next. Improving usability We’re introducing expanded color customization and theming controls to give you more flexibility in how the DAW looks and feels. We will also continue to evaluate ways to make Sonar easier and more comfortable for everyone to use. Thank you to everyone who has shared feedback and helped others through the transition. Getting it right for the long-term means listening, especially to people like you who know the product inside out. We’ll continue to share updates here and across our channels, and we remain committed to supporting this community through the next chapter. — The Cakewalk Team15 points

I don't care if they offer it for $19.99 a year. I'll never sign up for a software subscription. It is beyond absurd there is no perpetual license yet.14 points

Yes you can - thank Meng, it's not too good to be true indeed. Today, the core application itself is free to use with no track or effects limits whatsoever. Some new features, plugins and BandLab membership exclusives are behind the membership paywall. We do appreciate it however if you support future development by paying for a licence There are some great deals coming so keep your eyes out.14 points

After further investigation, we are in the process of updating our installers to auto repair a broken redist installation. This should help alleviate ongoing issues with corrupt redists. If you have the problem, please download and run our redist installer which now attempts to restore a broken C++ redist installation. Our main Sonar and Next installers should be also updated shortly with similar capabilities.14 points

Due to your unnecessary personal attacks on the staff there is only one option, but to lock your post. Now if you would like to post again, with a better attitude, giving actual details of your systems issues, along with details of your computer, CPU, make model, RAM, sound card, etc we might be able to help. On a side note CbB, Cakewalk Sonar & Cakewalk Next all run fine on two different PC 's for me one running Windows 10 the other Windows 11. In the 33 years of using Cakewalk products I can honestly say I have never had a serious issue.13 points

Welcome to our bi-weekly update! We're committed to keeping you in the loop about our progress, much of which is shaped by community suggestions. This week, we're excited to share some key updates on Sonar. Color Customization A simple yet effective approach to color theming is well underway. We know it’s important to personalize your workspace, not just for aesthetics, but for creating a comfortable environment that reduces eye strain and helps you stay in the creative space longer. We're designing a system that is both powerful and easy to use. We're closing in on the first edition and expect to release it to the beta team shortly. Plugin Updates We're continuing to enhance our suite of plugins based on user feedback. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s in the works: Long awaited updates for the LP EQ and LP Multiband are almost here. Retooled for modern systems, these plugins provide exceptional sonic transparency for surgical, artifact-free adjustments. The Adaptive Limiter is also getting an overhaul and will be deployed alongside the LPs. This power trio will bring a powerful, mastering-grade toolkit to your mixes, available later in Q4. Soon, you'll see spectrum analyzer overlays integrated into some of our Core effects. This will provide immediate, precise visual feedback right where you need it, making it faster to identify frequency issues and make informed EQ decisions. Early Access Returns! We are reintroducing the Early Access program, which will be available to Next and Sonar users. This will help us gather more pre-release feedback before final deployment. It also reinforces our commitment to transparency and building the future of Sonar together with you. On the Horizon We’re cooking up some other new features that we can’t wait to put in your hands: Soon you'll be able to probe various tap points with integrated signal analysis, helping you visualize your audio's journey in real-time and troubleshoot routing issues with ease and precision. Global app search is in the works, designed to get you to your tools faster than ever. Get ready to turbocharge your workflow! We’ll be back in two weeks with another update. Thank you for your continued support and feedback! Best regards, The Cakewalk Team12 points

I subscribed to the EDMprod newsletter a while ago, just to get some freebies, and yesterday I got a newsletter that I wanted to share because it's a good reminder that we shouldn't fall victim to Gear Acquisition Syndrome. I believe that people like us on deals forums are especially prone to GAS, that's why I post it here. The mail subject was "Stop hoarding, start creating" and I think he put it quite well: I was aware of these things, but it drives the message home differently when I see it written from someone else, somehow.12 points

No secret that I really like MeldaProduction's products and business policies. Here's my review of MTurboEQ: I've had MTurboEQ for years and I still haven't used it on any project. Using Plugin Doctor, I was able to use MEQualizer (from the FreeFX bundle) to dial in the same curve, took me about 5 minutes from starting Plugin Doctor. The Saturation knobs do the same thing, the "Analog" control on MTurboEQ brings up the noise floor a tiny bit, and that's about it. The big difference between them in practical use is that MEQualizer is much more versatile.🤨 (Unless you have FabFilter Pro-Q, I suggest spending some time exploring the features of MEQualizer. When it comes to performing tonal surgery, it does things I've never seen in another manufacturer's EQ, most notably the harmonics feature) What it looks like is that they used MEQualizer as a starting point, then made "devices" (Melda's term for simplified GUI's) that mimic the control layouts of various classic hardware units. This is more apparent if you go into MTurboEQ's settings and disable "custom GUI for devices," which does away with the skeuomorphic UI's and exposes the controls. If it were possible to create devices and custom GUI's in MEQualizer, MTurboEQ would be entirely superfluous. It's really just MEQualizer with "devices," and as is the case with any "device" in MeldaProduction's plug-ins, they are subsets of the plug-in's features, designed to simplify the use of the program by hiding certain controls and overlaying a more familiar interface. They don't sonically emulate the hardware they imitate, they only vaguely copy the front panel controls. They admit as much in the ad copy on the website. So unless you're trying to leverage your way into the MMixingFX, MMasteringFX, MTotalFX, or MComplete bundles, skip it. That would be the only reason to drop the $9, unless you'd pay $9 to add custom GUI devices to MEQualizer.11 points
