I don't care what some of you think of his moderation approach, but there IS a real person under all that fur so please keep any negatives out of this thread! I was just informed that the Wookiee is currently hospitalized and having a triple heart bypass! Most have no idea of what he deals with in his "normal" life (and it's not for me to go into that), but I wanted all of you to be aware of his current situation so we can all send positive thoughts his way! Get better soon Wooks!25 points

As you may have read in our recent press release, Cakewalk Next and Cakewalk Sonar are now available exclusively through BandLab Membership. We’re enthusiastic because this transition from the preroll testing phase to early access in Membership underscores the robustness and customer readiness of the software. We’re excited about this significant milestone and look forward to ongoing improvements and new feature development in the months ahead. CbB will remain free and won’t require a subscription. It will continue to receive essential maintenance updates, but no new feature updates as our main focus will be on the ongoing development of Cakewalk Next and Cakewalk Sonar. MIDInco firstly thank you for voicing your concerns respectfully to the community. Let me just say this - the Cakewalk team is comprised of dedicated and passionate people who believe in making creative tools for musicians. You may not know it, but most DAW teams are very small. Building DAW's is not a high profit margin industry in case you haven't noticed. To help catch you up - we've achieved a lot in the last six and a half years with BandLab... A lot more than we did under Gibson or even Roland. You can achieve a lot with small teams. Not only have we breathed new life into Sonar but we also built a new cross platform DAW - Cakewalk Next. which is very centered on music creation rather than production. For Sonar we've been laser focused on stability and the features we've added are very workflow centric. Our list of bug fixes since we started exceeds 4000 just looking at our ticket counts. I'll let you refer to the change log and make up your own mind as to the value we've brought. Here is the Sonar Change Log and here is the Cakewalk change log As far as the team goes there are a several senior members, some of which even go all the way back to the 90's. I personally started using Cakewalk in '92 and joined as a developer in 1997 on Cakewalk Pro Audio and I've worked on every single version of Sonar since. And my shoe size varies depending on the vendor I buy it from ?20 points

The best way to keep it going is to use it as intended in a respectful way. Contribute, thank those who contribute in ways that help you, and have respect for those who continue to host it. Treat your fellow forum contributors (and heaven knows how many lurkers) with kindness and respect the forum rules about personal/political/religious attacks. If you're a user of Cakewalk by BandLab and/or SONAR or Sonar, visit the other forums on this site and help users with their issues (which is the overall purpose this site is supposed to serve). Beat not the dead horses. In this forum we're allowed free rein to advocate for the purchase of other companies' products, even ones that compete with BandLab's. I don't know if that's something you'll find elsewhere. If you want to thank the people that make it possible, I believe that @Jesse Jost is the BandLab employee who has the most to do with it, and then there are moderators. I'm not sure who all of the mods are, but @Wookiee in particular recently suffered a devastating personal loss and has continued to soldier on. They would probably like to be told how much you appreciate the (unpaid in the case of the moderators) work they have done and continue to do to make it possible. As for me, almost entirely thanks to this forum I've managed to assemble a vast assortment of industry powerhouse tools that far exceed my ability (and time) to make use of them. In my life and creative and professional pursuits, knowing that I have the best tools possible is freeing. If I see or hear something that I would like to incorporate into my own work, I know that the people who made it don't have any magic toys beyond what I have. Since I'm old enough to remember when one visit to a professional studio to make a 4 song demo cost as much as I've spent on my entire collection of music software, this is all like a dream world. If an experienced professional engineer were to sit down at my DAW computer, they might even be impressed, although they might notice the relative absence of Waves and UAD products. So I thank my fellow forum participants for sharing what they know. Moreover, I've managed to avoid lasting beefs with anyone despite what I'm sure are divergent political views between me and multiple others. But political opinions are merely one aspect of what makes up a person, and I believe that the things people have in common should be emphasized.20 points

Someone who calls themselves "CMDess" has written an extensive guide to getting the most from MeldaProduction plug-ins. I haven't read it yet, but the more documentation for these complex tools the better. Also, this week's Eternal Madness 50% off sale includes MAutoAlign, which I consider a must for anyone doing multiple-mic'd instruments, and MConvolutionMB, a very well-regarded convolution reverb (I can't personally vouch for it because I use MTurboReverb and Exponential Nimbus exclusively).18 points

As someone who is constantly having to open legacy projects for ongoing multi-season / sequel projects, it's infuriating. Native Instruments is infamous for it's terrible backend engineering and file management, and nothing epitomizes this than having to have Kontakt 4, 5, 6, 7...and now 8...installed to open projects going back 5+ years. And then having to have multiple versions of some libraries on legacy drives, because all the nonsense they do in between versions (and kontakt file specifications) means developers need to update conform with no backward compatability. If I start a day knowing I need to open projects from 2018, I know I'll spend an hour or two just dealing with various Kontakt version not knowing where anything is, even though everything is installed AND linked through Native Access. And if any older libraries have been batch saved to ensure smooth operation in the god awful performance of Kontakt 7, those libraries will no longer work in Kontakt 4, 5, 6, and I will need the original files in order to connect and load in legacy projects. Then there's the wonderful "find missing files" dialogue, that even when pointing it to the right files, it often won't actually load anything and Kontakt will load blank. To solve this? I have to have legacy versions of my DAW installed, so I can try and open the project in the same state is was in many years ago - since sometimes that works - hoping that somehow Kontakt will figure it out - then I can copy the properly loaded project settings into the new DAW session. NI is the ****ing worst. I love their products from a creative point of view, but they cost me $1000s a year is lost productivity because their software is so god awfully engineered, with not a damn ounce of concern for how major backend decision will affect their customers, and that they're spitting out Kontakt versions simply to milk their customers base not caring how much of a nightmare this is for professionals. I could throw a chair through a wall some days with how much time I lose dealing with this nonsense. Now that I hear Kontakt 8 is coming out I've decided to start meditating again.17 points

Thanks for your feedback. The last update is possibly the most important performance update we’ve done in more than 15 years actually. The work started with trying to resolve some somewhat unrelated timing discrepancies with VST’s and also to solve some severe problems dealing with huge synth projects. However, as part of profiling the app to find the root cause of these, as a happy accident I discovered a major bottleneck that was preventing the multiprocessing engine from efficiently load balancing. The reason this was not discovered earlier, is that the problem was obfuscated in some completely unrelated transport functionality and it never showed up as a problem earlier. Imagine searching for a needle in a haystack… The net effect was that the engine would be unable to independently process tracks as efficiently as possible. This had a knock on effect to all processing including our plugin load balancing technique. Once this issue was resolved many longstanding issues magically disappeared. We also fine tuned a lot of the VST processing code so now it has the minimum overhead, allowing for much better low latency throughput. It doesn’t stop there. For the next update we have been working on improving MIDI editing performance, better support for large scale projects, and resolving some longstanding MIDI rendering issues. Already multi-track PRV editing performance has been massively improved. We’re talking hundreds of times faster to perform certain operations!17 points

AURAS // Free Instruments For All. Are you tired of stupid companies turning good things into subscription garbage? Are you annoyed that every platform is infested with always-online DRM bullshit? Do you just want to make music with sounds that are fun, inspiring, and simple to use? Remember when music tools designed to be 'free' were actually free? Me too. So I decided to make my own series of free instruments designed for the free Decent Sampler platform. Meet 'auras' - my new series of instruments designed to inspire, create, and goof around with for the always low price of $0 on all platforms. (and yeah - linux too) No Strings Attached. No Stupid Subscription Bullsh*t. Just Sound. I'm posting just his video because it's fair that he gets some views. The link to the instrument is the 2nd link in the video description.16 points

It's come to our attention that a very small number users have crashes on start up for the newest version of Sonar. The symptom is the app disappears on startup. This issue has been confirmed to be due to the presence of a corrupted Microsoft VC redistributable. Sonar relies on the VCRedist runtime at a very fundamental level for proper operation so a corrupted install will cause the app to crash in unpredictable ways. In all the most recent reported cases the problem was caused by to the installation of an old obsolete VC runtime some other applications. The available redists from a new Sonar installation looks like this in Add/remove programs. If you have lots of older redists than this and have startup problems, uninstall all the redists and run the latest Sonar installer which should reinstall the latest ones. Alternatively, you may also install the latest Microsoft redistributable directly from Microsoft and to do a repair install in the installer. Read this article for more info on this.15 points

The time has come to introduce new product forums for our newest products, Cakewalk Next and Cakewalk Sonar. The purpose of the Cakewalk Sonar forum is to improve the clarity and quality of our product discussions by properly delineating between the two lines. Cakewalk by BandLab has been, and will continue to be, a trusted tool for many. The team has worked incredibly hard over the past 5 years to make the software the best it can be. Cakewalk Sonar, as the latest lineage that builds on the excellence of CbB, and SONAR Platinum before it, aims to break new ground in performance and usability the landscape of the modern DAW. As Cakewalk Sonar represents the lion's share of our new development focus, this forum is where you'll first see news about new features and other improvements. Even though CbB will see less frequent updates, the CbB forums will continue to serve as it otherwise has done over years, and any information for CbB updates will be posted to that forum accordingly. We appreciate everyone's support to date and look forward to ongoing discussions as we continue to improve products we love! ~The Bakers15 points

I use melodyne studio all the time on instrument tracks as well as vocals. It’s been interesting because I would’ve assumed synths are on pitch, sometimes I find they are better after I fix them in melodyne. I have fixed bass and guitar notes too, made up new bass and guitar phrases, stretched notes on like an ending note of a song. I have fixed drum track timing that needed it. I use the make notes louder or quieter quite a bit to level vs compression. It’s great to experiment and try new things like looking for harmonies. Using the formant tool can change a sound quite a bit. You can deess of course, but can also fade the beginning or end of a note. It’s great for fixing things but also a creative tool.15 points

I was just in my Native Access for something else, and noticed an update for Kontakt Factory Selection 2 , ver 1.2.0, 9/23/24 8.60 GB and from past experience have learned to read the release notes and it says this... Minimum version required is Kontakt 8 I dont have Kontakt 8 and may or may not be getting it, so I guess this means if I install this update I have no Kontakt 8 to use it in. So I wont be downloading this update. Like when a recent update for Analog Dreams had the minimum required version is Kontakt 7.6, so it no longer works in my full Kontakt 6 where it originated from in my purchases. I read I can get and download a version that will work in 6 again, but I have 7 player and it works in there so its ok in this case. I think I am understanding this correctly, if not let me know ! If I seem like my patience has been run down in some replies, that's because we've offered plenty of opportunities for people to voice opinions about subscription since Sonar was initially announced a year ago. There was a 20ish page thread where we let people speak their minds right out of the gate. There have been innumerable threads and comments since. I'm just on here doing my best to support the community, and when I'm constantly having to respond to people retreading the same things over and over, and frequently being indignant about it towards the dev team... I was not trying to make any comment about you personally in my initial reply there. My only goal here is to try and make this forum a constructive place for the people who want to learn about the application, or who need help. I get PMs from other members asking us to put a lid on a lot of the subscription threads because it makes the forum feel like a hostile place. Ashwin graciously posted a place where people direct their opinions in a way where people outside of the Cakewalk team can keep track of. Those of us involved with development will continue to try and deliver the best possible experience with the app that we can, and we do our best to support our users.13 points
