Re-Activation needed after just 18 days ?

Well here we go again. Opened up Cakewalk again today (29/4/24) and I have to activate again with 11 days to go. As per this thread last time was 11/4/24 with 13 days to go and before that 25/3/24 with 13 days to go. Is this to be the new "normal" until Sonar is fully released?

I have only have this expectantly happen once, ever.

Other than that one single instance, my CbB has never asked to re-activate.

Looks like something might be deleting your browser cookies or something like that....

Good point. Something is different because I have opened Cakewalk a few times over the last few months and it never needed activation. But possibly because I have the backstage pass for Sonar ??

My music desktop was built by SCAN here in the UK (music pc specialists). I am off line but however go online once a week for MS updates and any others. I always load Cakewalk and it obviously phones home as I get a toast for Melodyne. So no issues with cookies. And last friday I was on line and loaded Cakewalk with no reactivation issue. But on Monday it had the 11 day warning. It did use to be 6 months but just since March this has happened.

Not a big issue. But just a bit annoying not knowing how soon the next prompt will be.

In my case it's seems like it must be something they have built in to the offline Auth Response File as my DAW pc is very rarely online. Authorising  through the program direct to that PC doesn't work , so I have to export the AR file and take it to another PC to get the Response file, which didn't really bother me until it became a fortnightly thing. That seems very OTT and sort of says....ok, we'll let you use it for a month and then we'll see how we feel about it..... which is really not something I want from a software program that is the gatekeeper to many years of work. Back in the dark days it was said that come what may CW users would never be locked out of their work, that something would be done to make sure that is not the case. There seems to be some walking back of that assurance now. Whilst this now monthly auth thing does technically honour that premise, it's really not very reassuring to have to effectively ask for permission to carry on using it every few weeks and hope that it'll still be ok when I have to ask again in a matter of weeks.

We are not locked out of our work.  Far from it. It is too early to know precisely what will happen but we have Sonar. It's not going anywhere. Then we may have a free or very inexpensive basic  version of Sonar someday, we don't know but Noel has eluded to this a few times. So please just be patient and stop expecting the worst. Be positive.

he eluded to the vector-based gui about 10 years ago 🤷‍♀️ he's tech and while his input is surely important (essential even) to the business, he doesn't get to make such decisions

/goodluck

I have zero interest in the new Sonar. I couldn't even install it if I wanted to without buying a new pc and there's nothing like enough in the new version so far to make that seem like something I would want to do, so for all I care they can take another 5 years to sort out whatever they are doing with that - I doubt that there are many here that have more patience than me in regard to that, but given that said new version isn't even properly available yet the amount of hoop jumping required simply to continue operating the existing version is getting ridiculous. Being asked to renew permission to use it every two weeks or so does not inspire much confidence that "it's not going anywhere".

I too am having problems with reactivation, to the point that I can't use CW at the moment. I got the 'reactivate' messages (had them before) and have followed the standard process (Help/Sign in to Bandlab) except this time round I am constantly getting a message (in a block coloured pink and purple) saying that it couldn't connect to Bandlab and that I should check internet connection and/or firewalls. I've been round the houses for 3 days trying to ensure that the firewalls are allowing CK to get through and I'm pretty sure I've set the permissions/rules up correctly. I've even uninstalled and re-installed CW, all to no avail. Today I opted to try and do an 'offline' activation. Tried to upload Cakewalk Product Centre onto our home PC and that too wouldn't allow access through the firewalls.

Basically, something's changed in the last week and I am damned if can understand what exactly. The only thing I can think is that a Win 10 update has changed security settings on my machines, which is so severe that it overrides the firewall rules. If it isn't that then I'm goosed!!

Please, does anyone recognise what I'm going through and can point me to a possible solution?

Are you definitely running the very latest version of Cakewalk by BandLab?  The back-end servers were changed earlier this year to support the new Sonar, and earlier versions of Cakewalk will be trying to connect to servers that don't exist any more.

The latest version (as of this post) is 2024.02 build 98 (29.09.098).

The weird thing is that Cakewalk Product Centre does exactly the same thing on a completely separate machine ('Internet Connection or Firewall' issues)
