    Triesenberg

Have to agree that this is a piece that doesn't need a vocal track ... I listened to it while looking at some photographs of Triesenberg (I'm geekie like that) and it worked well, so, very enjoyable mind trip .....Might even visit one day looks nice .... SPAK
  4. Yep ... Totally agree! The SC version is like the mix has been pulled out of the plastic bag that Bandlab kept it in ... trouble is now I think James's guitar sounds a little hot ...what does finicky mean .....

    Your A Woman

Your correct, it could, and I know if I did the song today it would be entirely different ... back then this was cutting edge ... for me anyway Many thanks for the comment and listening SPAK
  6. Great song, one of my 'Go to's' ... just not sure if this is your best mix 🤔 SPAK
  7. OK, what I hear is the bass fighting the bass drum giving a kind of muddy mix to the other elements in the work. Whilst I like the song I feel it would benefit from some kind 'spacial acoustic treatment', I sometimes use an SPL Vitalizer on analogue stuff to 'widen' the mix and bring the whole work out, more 'in your face' if you get my meaning 🤔 Check out Hope this is of value ... Hi John To answer your question of tape speed when it comes to a 688 MIDI-STUDIO it only runs at the higher run through of 3.75 (apart from the pitch control which gives a variable speed of around 10%) that is the 'standard speed' on this machine and doesn't run at the normal cassette speed... bet you wished you hadn't asked now Your dead right about the 'dirty and fun' bit, but we were all so much younger then .... Thanks for the title change but I ain't been into proper english since a kid ...buggered if I'll start now ... LOL Thanks for message, and from one Luddite to another 'take care' Best regards Steve
  9. Might be my monitors but the bass seems too high and it's a bit 'muddy'

And guess what I completely agree, I use the old plat & Cubase 10 and I have been given a recording that really needs fixing... timing, vocal key, etc, and having used both DAWS and spent some weeks, it seems to me the best way through this is to use my old 688 to dump the whole recording to, and then just adjust the speed for 2 semitones to a 'G' then put it back to DAW. My point is that us 'Luddites' have the knowledge of this stuff. Years ago I got my son a BOSS Br8 (He's a Bass player) and I think he still has it, he hates the way songs are made these days and often reminds me that my old work seems so much better ... somehow I think he's right. Given your guitar skills at working riffs and shreds, I'd bet some of that James G was the use of such devices (and like for like) I agree. I think 'cause it was so honest and you had to listen back, you found time to perfect a track before using up those precious other tracks! Anyway I think my older material (Not songwriting, that's as bad as ever) back then has so much Omph to it ... sad that we all get older ......... Thanks for the comment James ...Take care of those fingers 😏
  13. Godda ask ... Why 'An Awkward Silence' ?

    Metamorphosis

Stay as you are man ... you always deliver!! There are sooo many horses holding me back from a cheap jibe but they'd just be bum jokes, your too good for them ...and at least you got furry paws (Just keep 'em clean & soft) PS Hoping your on the way up , last year was a bitch ..... and I'm hoping the title of this song says it all All the best to you Steve 😷
  16. Bjorn .. your a gent (as always) and Tom ... that's unkind. James has some good advice ...move on SPAK

    Metamorphosis

Can't seem to get a hold of this one Wookiee listened to it a couple of times and I think (not sure) it has a kind of really sad vibe to it that transcends an underlying feeling of helplessness, sorta trying to escape from ... whatever..... I could get heavier but I'm not gonna .... Good mix though but not my best loved from ya good self ... Stay well M8 Steve
  18. Well I'm through it all, have to say your voice cuts through a bit like a mix between Joe Walsh / Glen Frey ... in fact there's an Eagles 'feel' to a some ( not all) of your songs IMO ...all good. Some riffs seem similar all be it with different timings (Celebrity chef/ The Ballad Of Charles and Harry) but the songs I really liked was ' Lean & The Ballad Of Charles and Harry. I would be proud If I had written these songs, so that's a big thumbs up from SPAK ... for what that's worth !🤔 Keep'um coming ( BTW Hope you get loadsa sales on Spot) SPAK

    Your A Woman

Thanks John, I think it is about 30 years old! dragged of the 688 a couple of days ago. Thanks Pcode (that can't be your real name ..can it?) I can't claim credit for the bass as it was a style on the Yammy PSR, but I do agree it's a pretty good sound, the song is mine though sooo 🙃 Steve

Thought I would post a song done some years ago as a Tascam 688 came under discush .. Completely recorded on the 688 and a PSR550 with a cheap Fender copy ... Why do I need ALL this gear ?? ...Guess 'cause it makes recording less honest & easier. Open house on analog Vs Digital 🤐
  22. Have to say I really enjoyed this and I'm sure, as James observed, a great deal of work has gone into this and is very much appreciated. It does in some way remind me of something he may have written under the Nettlesmith banner as it has an engaging lyric ..so thankyou for the post, really did enjoy ( as said ) SPAK

    Song in E Major

Sweet, but not to sure about it, didn't seem to 'hold me' but the mix felt right for the work ... good post SPAK
  24. OOOoooh just found this, I should have been the first to hear it ... a s h a m e d of myself 😒! Anyway for my bit I feel it reminds me a bit of FOCUS but with guitar .. danno how just does, up to your tricks with those fingers James ... and although I felt the snare a tad high to my ears, still great stuff 😊 SPAK ..... (My name is Steve though 🙃)
