  1. Seems fair, people on the top tier of loyalty discount could be competing with Acustica for sales.
  2. Wow, this thing is impressive! Very convincing, and a surprising range of sounds possible. Didn't take long to decide to buy this, especially when I realised I had 86 rewards points in my account. Total outlay only $19 after cashing in 50 rewards points for a $50 off voucher.
  3. I think they're going to announce the end of WUP! Waves is going to become cool again.
  4. When I click upgrade and then add the promo code to the cart, it shows what the upgrade discount is based on at the top. Mine says "Volume 5 (upgrade from Marshall Plexi)". I also own Amp Room, Drawmer S73, TSAR-1R and Tube Delay. I get the uninspiring $349.50 upgrade price. May I ask what it says your upgrade is from, to be offered $39.50?
  5. I noticed that UVI String Machines 2 has samples of the Streichfett amongst the collection. Since my Streichfett demo period has expired, I can't compare them directly.
  6. Considering the launch discount was 33 Euro my suggestion is wait for a sale. Often when JRR adds a product it's because a sale is coming up. I demoed it at launch and it sounds pretty good but I thought I was good for strings with Gforce Virtual String Machine. But apparently I wasn't because then I bought the XILS string machine bundle, and after buying UVI Vintage Vault I discovered its string machine library is far superior to Gforce's, to my ears anyway. So once again I think I'm good for string machines. I'll probably still buy this when it goes on sale if it comes back down to $33 ish. Who doesn't love string synths!
  7. Being an SE product it's a cut down version, the full Mixbox has 70 modules where this one has 24.
  8. I do have a decent case with fans but you're right I need to re thermal paste it, and probably the cooler which is stock. My problem is that it seems any money spent would be better spent on a new machine 😊 So maybe I'll just clean the heatsink fins out instead.
  9. Well recently it was a song I was working on with about 10 tracks all using VST synths or Kontakt libraries (not recorded audio), and on top of that I added KSHMR Chain to every track with three plugins running on each, U-He Satin, TBProAudio GSatPlus, and FrontDAW. Buffer was probably 1024 samples at 96khz. I didn't realise it was running at 96khz so I was surprised when I realised it was overheating, thinking it was running at 48khz. I'm assuming we're probably still 10 years away from being able to run everything at 192khz with a bunch of tracks and plugins and not have performance issues.
  10. I wasn't joking. I notice a worthwhile difference in sound quality at 96khz so I wonder whether there'd be a further improvement at 192khz, plus it'd pretty much eliminate aliasing. So when I see an interface advertising 192khz I wonder is anyone using it already and if so, can they actually run it at 192khz when making music ITB or is it really only useful for recording at 192 khz.
  11. My aging i7 4790k overheats and BSODs if I accidentally leave it on 96khz when adding too many plugins, is anyone using 192khz successfully on a modern machine without running into performance issues?
  12. Wow! I am genuinely shocked, but upon reflection I am also pleased by this announcement. In contrast to earlier seeing creatively bankrupt companies join forces to cross-market rather than innovate or support their existing products, here we have a company with the most user-friendly stance in the market (free lifetime upgrades!) acquiring a company with some of the most creatively inspiring products and soundware in the market.

    Back!

Welcome back Larry! Looking forward to hearing about your trip. Hope you had a great time!
  14. Yeah do what I do and use another synth 😉
  15. Otto Audio, maker of the heaviest (but also super versatile) amp sim 11 11 11 11, as well as some high quality cab IRs, has a new plugin for mixing heavy music called More is More. I picked up their amp sim and found it to be great while I was playing guitar, although I've been focusing more on keys lately. Regularly $149 you can get this new plugin for $100 off at launch with the code GOLDPLATEDSOUND https://ottoaudio.net/products/more-is-more A note from the Engineer: "Throughout the decade before the II II II II & Otto Audio, I spent time mastering records for heavy bands from all over the world. I had the pleasure of working with some of my favorite artists of all time, as well as did work on my own music. During this time I developed & refined a workflow method to get pristine loudness, grit & character. A secret, not-so-secret method of a soft clipper into a limiter, among other things, to get the heaviness to translate without altering the mix or destroying meters. This is the primary concept that came to the forefront when engineering More is More, as I make things I want to see & use personally. But I didn't just want to slap simple algorithms into a plugin and put my name on it, I refined and worked through 81 (yes really) versions of the plug-in until it was finished... and it will finish off your mixes & masters with a pristine, character infused, loud. I included 40 starting point presets to make it as easy as dropping it on a track. Use your ears, turn some knobs, it's got it where it counts and won't let you down." A secret sauce plug-in to add character, weight, punch and grit to your tracks, as well as loudness + finishing polish to your tracks/mixes/masters. Take it all the way from just adding a little weight or emphasis... clean loud to sparkling harmonics and crunch or even blown out distortion for when the situation calls for it. More is More is sure to stay on your mix bus & find all kinds of uses in your mixing & mastering projects.
  16. Whenever I read about destinations in the Caribbean it reminds me of playing the game "Sid Meier's Pirates!" on the Commodore Amiga back in 1991 while listening to Beastie Boys' License to Ill album, which was oddly fitting for a cartoonish adventure pillaging in the New World. That's the only time I've "visited" places like San Juan and St Martin. It'd be nice to visit for real one day. Larry, I hope you have a great trip and manage to steer clear of any privateers and buccaneers on the high seas!
  17. It was cancer unfortunately. There's some details from when it was announced on these links. https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=560268 https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=452942&start=1425
  18. I really like the Xils synths so I was pleased to pick up Xils 4, PolyM and the Strings bundle during the recent sale to compliment PolyKB, Oxium, MiniSyn'X and KaoX which I already had. I do find their interfaces to be a disincentive. Xils 4 had a nice update though. I only just realised how to use their preset interface properly a few weeks back, where you can filter by various categories... For some reason I forgot it was possible to change whatever filter is set. It's quite powerful once you get your head around the UI. RIP Lotuzia
  19. @Simeon Amburgey I just wanted to say how sorry I am this is happening to you. I'm glad to see you're trying to stay positive, proactive and learn from the experience. A "growth mindset" is such a powerful thing in contrast to the "fixed mindset" approach. Despite decades of experience in IT, I'm sure if I was dealing with offers to feature things on a YouTube channel I'd also be an easy mark with a well-coordinated and convincing hack like this. Like so many things we're learning about now such as the dangers of social media for teens, this digital age is presenting many challenges along with its opportunities. Thank you for sharing the insights along the way. I'm wondering if I should be looking into a YubiKey now myself!
  20. Simeon's YouTube channel was hacked 😞 Simeon Amburgey on Twitter: "So this is happening now! Please pray that I can get things resolved quickly. DO NOT CLICK on anything unless you are 100% sure it is legit. Hopefully @TeamYouTube can help me resolve this soon. https://t.co/gGMaH7Y3il https://t.co/O888e0XeoP" / Twitter
  21. If you are the big tree We are the the small axe
  22. BTW if anyone doesn't know, this utilises open source code from Mutable Instruments eurorack modules. VCV Rack also has versions of the Mutable Instruments modules. Mutable Instruments shut down in December 2022. The founder of Mutable Instruments, Emilie Gillet, didn't receive any money from Arturia or have any involvement in the product development. There was no wrongdoing involved. It's just an interesting situation and I guess inevitable when you contribute open source code with a Creative Commons CC-BY-SA license. I think about writing a book under a creative commons license occasionally but I am not quite ready for that level of giving yet... haha. Bravo to Emilie Gillet for her generosity. I read that sales of Softube's Mutable Instruments clone modules results in money being paid to Emilie, which seems like a fairer model to me, but then I struggle to be willing to pay Softube's prices! What a conundrum. I look buying to buying Volume 6 and then these Mutable Instruments modules one of these days. But I'll also end up with Minifreak V in the next V Collection upgrade. Gotta catch 'em all!
  23. It's based on buying 3 products so you get 50/60% off (50% at UVI, ~ 60% at Audiodeluxe when you factor in Deluxe bucks). $244 is at 30% off. If you add two more UVI products to your cart the extra discount will apply.
  24. FWIW I am absolutely blown away by Vintage Vault 4. Between it and Falcon, the competition looks sadly dated and amateurish by comparison. Installing and playing with each of the modules on VV4 has been the most fun I've had in ages! Keysuite is great too. Keysuite Digital is making me very happy.
