  1. That's odd. On my PC the workspace says "Record" not "Basic." Since @Arpeggio Blues only had 2 posts I just assumed he or she hadn't read the manual and so I ignored the admittedly off-base, inappropriate rant yesterday. But I almost wrote, "I will leave it to others to take you to task for your rant." I hope this thread doesn't get locked from an escalation of insults. I was rather pleased with myself for figuring out (1) what K did, (2) verifying that it did work (3) noticing that the foreground and background colors of clips do indeed change to indicate mute/unmute status, and (3) politely pointing out where @Arpeggio Blues failed to read the ancient posts which referred to Clips (not Tracks) thereby missing something important. In reviving this ancient thread (more than a year old) your diatribe seems to be confusing tracks with clips: Hope this helps. Personal request for @Arpeggio Blues:
  2. Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but "https://legacy.cakewalk.com/Documentation/Home" and related links to the online documentation seems to not work (including Menu Bar > Help > Documentation which for me points to "legacy.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=0x184C5" ATM).
  3. I have used the default M for Marker for at least 15 years. Have you considered changing that in [ P ] references > Customization > Keyboard Shortcuts? To me, flexibility/customization is one of Cakewalk's strong points I don't think in terms of clips and I never use K for anything, but I looked up K** and see its the shortcut to toggle Clips Mute/Unmute. I tested it by recording a short bass line (in both an instrument track and a separate MIDI track). After selecting each in the clips pane (one at a time), K toggled the state between Mute and Unmute. The color of the clip (background and foreground) changed to show the mute / unmute status. Next, I added an audio track and recorded the output of the instrument track as audio. K works on that track as a mute / unmute toggle and the background and foreground change colors accordingly. **Personal preference: I usually look up shortcuts using [ P ] references > Customization > Keyboard Shortcuts, either to search by function or by keypress / key combo [aka Locate Key]. I often find that to be quicker than doing a text search in the Reference Guide. BTW, please note that several people mentioned muting and unmuting clips: In reviving this ancient thread (more than a year old) your diatribe seems to be confusing tracks with clips: Hope this helps.
  4. I don't make EDM, but I thought it made extensive use of samples. If so, I'd think EDM producers would like to have a built-in, fully-integrated sampler complete with all sorts of sample manipulation tools including a variety of looping functions.
  5. Thanks. The new website design looks sexy and geared towards flashiness. I like the motto "Stay connected with us" in part because of the multiple levels of meaning it has. It sounds to me like the company is about making/building connections among various members of music communities. For me it expresses a positive message.
  6. Unfortunately when people just remove comments replies that come after lose meaning unless they quote the comments. Often, other forum members are left wondering what the original comments were.
  7. [Please delete/ignore. I hit quote instead of edit when I went to reword the Disclaimer.
  8. EDIT: See post from msmcleod below. Since I am just a user, I have no inside info. That doesn't stop me from speculating. So, when I read this in the Early Access announcement: I speculated that there was a strategy planned and/or in place to allow existing users to (1) update to the 2023.09 version when released (2) so that only bona fide existing users who updated to the released version of 2023.09. I am not 100% sure of my speculation and I am not asking for confirmation here, but far as I can see all that has been posted does not negate my speculation. If I am right, this: is not a necessary interpretation. Why? We have been told that "earlier versions [earlier = pre-2023.09 versions] will cease to activate in the future." I am comfortable waiting until there is an announcement, but I assume the final release will confirm that we are bona fide CbB users (we will need to be online as we have been told there will be no offline activation). Disclaimer: My speculation, assumptions, and reading of the various posts since the EA version was announced could end up being wrong after the fact.
  9. Oh. I was out of town. Oh well. Thanks for the clarification.
  10. Seems like you are asking for right-click remote control/MIDI Learn for all UI/control surface assignments to be enabled by a mode change setting so people don't accidentally change assignments. If so, that sounds like something I could use.
  11. Link works, but my price is $148.72. So, the "random price" is not just for people outside the USA. I haven't ordered from musician's friend in over two decades. Maybe that's the reason.
  12. Funny nobody commented on this. I have been out of town helping my son move (no internet!). So that's my excuse for not commenting. I can't speak for anyone else. It is one of the first thing I noticed upon reading the EA Release post. (1) My initial reaction was: It makes sense; (2) I have formed some speculation as to why; (3) I anticipated some backlash to this; and (4) I said to myself, "I hope there isn't a flood of anxiety-ridden whiney posts about this. I "hate" when people do that." Sorry to see you were disappointed that no one commented. đŸ˜‰
  13. For E-Mu gear which could have different Sound ROMs inside, dedicated users would make *.ins files and share them on Yahoo Groups (now defunct). Nowadays some people use other services for sharing files. Not sure if there are any for fans of Yamaha gear, but maybe you tried them already. It is also possible people made their own and are not part of any sharing communities (or just haven't shared them). I made my own for some ancient Roland Gear (Intelligent Arrangers) cobbled from existing *.ins files and info in manuals (as well as E-Mu files that had my own User Banks--presets I created) but never shared them. Anyhow, if you want to tweak an existing DX-7 *.ins file (assuming you have access to midi implementation docs), you should have enough info to do it. JMO: It's really as easy as editing a file in Notepad!
  14. Oh, you mean the tweakheadz site. I always found his how-to-do-it pages meticulously detailed. Let me see if I can find it on the wayback machine. (Not sure if I have the page saved on my XPSP3 PC.) UPDATE: Try this for the document Promidi linked to. JMO: Seems to me like a lot just for a text file (editable in notepad) with an ins suffix. But if you want it as an editor/librarian and whatever features it has, that's something different and might be worth the money to you.
  15. Yeah--no drop and dragging floating VST windows onto the Multidock. I usually click on the top bar of each VST window and choose Dock in Multidock. If you want the Synth Rack first so you have access that way, you can do that and then dock the VST windows in order. But, we can't move the tabs around. CORRECTION: See scook's post (immediately below)!!
  16. Another thing in her favor is that she plays Zappa, sometimes even with Zappa plays Zappa! đŸ™‚
  17. Alternate routes to similar results fit different work flows. Sometimes right-clicking the track header pane is far more convenient than other methods. I find most of the times using the Menu Bar > Insert menu is more work, but (1) sometimes it's convenient and (2) some people prefer using menu bars as a preferred workflow. There are two type of people in the world, those who say there should be only one path to inner peace and those who believe there can be many acceptable paths. One person might advocate for 2 or 3 favorite ways to insert plugins and those ought to be the only ones available for everyone. Another person might favor 2 or 3 different ways. Yet another person always uses a browser to choose what's presented in hierarchical dialog and never uses the menu bar or the right click methods. One person might favor dropping and dragging; someone else might favor other methods. Do "we" really need to risk alienating users by eliminating their personal efficiencies for the sake of simplification? If you prefer one or two methods, you are free to use them exclusively. YUP! đŸ™‚
  18. "VST instruments need a tabbed window." = ??????? VSTs can be placed inside the Multidock and we can switch between them by selecting the Multidock tabs. It seems like you want something more/different than that. So I am confused. We can currently (for example) have one tab in the Multidock for the Synth Rack followed by several tabs each having one VST/Soft Synth. We can switch from one tab in the Multidock to another tab by selecting different tabs. Unfortunately (at least the last time I looked) we cannot reorder the tabs. That's probably been requested previously.
  19. I call dibs on the first post on the first page after 909. I want to post a Beatle tune to celebrate.
  20. LOL. I was wondering if it was "weird" because you are unfamiliar with that type of synthesis. The manual does describe Loading User Samples, and a whole bunch of wild features! See: PDF Manual Online Manual (as web pages).
