  1. The high bit in 8-bit midi is a midi command flag. So data [the bytes that follow the command in 2-byte and 3-byte MIDI command formats] use the lower 7-bits. Example 1: 0x90 0x4F 0x7F, where 0x90 is a note on command for midi channel 1, 0x4F is the note number [runs from 0x00 to 0x7F] and 0x7F is the velocity [0x00 to 0x7F]. Example 2: 0xCF 0x7F, where 0xCF is a program change command for midi channel 16 and 0x7F is "patch" 128 on a 1 to 128 scale, or 127 on a zero to 127 scale.
  2. Based on this and GB25 I finally figured out IK's modus operandi: Give customers free duplicate (and triplicate and quadruplicate and . . . ) licenses so they feel good about getting so many "freebies" and then spend more money to get a few things they don't have bundled together with many things they already have. 😜 Larry, same here I'm not getting a pop up. I already have it, I'm just greedy. Because I already have it is probably why it's not popping. Seriously though, I will not pretend to understand the complexities of IK's website and product software utilities (i.e., authorizer, manager, custom shop, etc.), their product pricings, their promotions, etc., but I can tell you that I was able to get an extra / free license for this. I know I clicked on some popup somewhere for the EQ-81 when it showed up and now I have a specific license for it as opposed to it being included as a piece of "gear" within in a product variant within a bundled product I "own." Disclosure: I have been told that there are reasons for having multiple licenses and acquired many additional licenses I didn't think I needed as "freebies" in GB25. Not sure I will ever use them, but hey . . . they're free, so why not? Helps me feel good that I got something free. 😜
  3. Thanks for the question and the replies. I have used several plug-ins which have multiple outputs and this discussion confirms what I have done and expands some interests I have. I don't have/use Kontakt, but I have used TTS-1 and Proteus X/Emulator X which (1) is multi-timbral [in a single instance] and (2) can be instantiated with a set number of outputs based on a pre-instantiated setting [from 1 to 39 outputs]. Fascinating that there are plug-ins which can dynamically create outputs!!!
  4. D & D!!! 😜 Not only is it a duplicate, but its also deceptive (both here and in the original thread from 10 hours ago). It looks like its a video, but its not. Its a static image of a youtube video!!!
  5. The Inspector-based Arpeggiator in Cakewalk. The MIDI Remote Control bug makes it unusable for my purposes. If not for that, I would gladly use it. Alternative third party software with arpeggiator functionality is not necessarily better on the whole, but if it allows for MIDI Remote Control, it can do things that Cakewalk can't.
  6. Until yesterday, I never thought of this as an issue. If I could replay all of the times I used versions of SONAR/Cakewalk that had the track widget buttons, maybe I'd find that I consistently click on the down arrow, or maybe I just do what John does and it happens so fast (eye-hand automatic pilot) I don't notice it. I'll never know since I don't have a time machine. 😜 Seriously though, I checked the earliest version of SONAR/Cakewalk I have installed on my main PC--SONAR 8.5.3.282 (pre-Skylight UI). There are track widget button hot spot inconsistencies there, too. So, I assume its baked in. Probably safest to just click on the down arrow.
  7. I am sorry, but while the hot spot is inconsistent, calling it "extremely counterintuitive" is 100% hyperbole. Clarification: Pressing a down arrow to trigger a dropdown menu is consistent across many pieces of software. Pressing an up arrow to trigger a dropdown menu would seem to be "counterintuitive" to use your term. The fact that there are extra hotspots to trigger the dropdown menu for some of the track control widgets but not others is inconsistent UI behavior. Bonus hotspots are not really "extremely counterintuitive." Anyone who presses on the down arrows will find the UI behavior consistent.
  8. Suggestion: If you use a factory Workspace and tweak it, also tweak the name (that is, don't simply resave it as "Advanced").
  9. I got the free version of Voltage Modular and after one day I found it was so "intuitive" given my early modular synth experiences of several decades ago that I upgraded to a paid version.
  10. Thanks for the offer, but I have found the form factor of Facebook problematic. How about Discord?
  11. It might not be a problem for most people, but in my experience there is a limited number of User *.lns [lower case LNS] files that will be shown in the workspaces dropdown. No folders in the list either. I'd like to be wrong about these, but I have bumped up against the limit with all my workspace tests. UPDATE: To confirm, I moved four unused Workspaces I did in April 2020 into a folder [Archives] within my User Workspaces folder. As expected, they did not appear in the drop down list; however, four others at the bottom of the alphanumerical list (previously not shown) were there. I am getting a constant maximum of 49 user workspaces between the separator after "None" and before the separator for the factory workspaces.
  12. Ahhhhh. Thanks for the clarification. I see that in the PRV, the Erase Tool also works for selectively erasing CCs (or anything else I wanted to delete).
  13. So, I took a look at the PRV and tried that ^^^ with my test recording. Nice to know editing can be done in there, too. One of these decades maybe the PRV will become "intuitive" for me.
  14. Glad you figured it out before I was able to re-create something to undo in the PRV. For me tweaking the Event List comes naturally. I'll let someone else speculate how the sustain got there in the first place. Changing CC64 = on to off is handy!!! If you wanted to add an event (such as a CC64 = off) that's pretty handy, too.
  15. Since I don't use the PRV or automation lanes, I would either (1) go into View > Event List and (1a) delete/move the final CC64 that's causing the sustain or (1b) manually add a CC64 off where I want it off, or (2) record [overdub] a CC64 on/off where I want the sustain off. You probably can do something from the CC64 lane, too, but I can't tell you how to do it. I am trying to create something that looks like yours to see if editing the event list as I mentioned (1a) would affect the block your image shows.
  16. Not sure I understand what you did or how you did it, but have you tried turning sustain (CC64) off at the point where it sustains past where you don't want it to sustain?
  17. I looked at that thread yesterday. While there were some useful ideas and some respectful feedback, there were also a number of "she said/he said" posts. Not sure there are new issues and ideas that haven't already been brought up here. Also, there was some mild nastiness ("Before you call me a liar you should . . . .") that seemed to be directed towards provoking in-kind reactions. As for using that forum for "what matters most," I don't think any social media forum can be representative of what's important to users at large. It might be a good place for people who want to vent to find people who agree and for fans to tell them they are wrong. Don't get me wrong: I have participated in other threads in the forum. Those were all informative, respectful discussions, not battlefields.
  18. I like changing the instrument parameters to change the sounds; seems far more "intuitive" than selecting randomly named bass presets. As for cost, I got mine "free." I had tried to get ST3 mid-2020 but was told by IK it hadn't been available for a long time (since ST4 came out). Then a few months later, TS2 MAX was on sale and it had ST3!!!!! So I got that and a whole bunch of other "freebies," one of which was MODO BASS! 🙂
  19. Re: Pilot Every time I hear a certain drug commercial (seems like 100 times a day but its probably only 10-20), I recognize the song ("It's Magic") and think, "I should look up who did the original." But I was never motivated enough to do the search. So, thanks for looking it up!!!
  20. This reminds me, several months ago I watched what I thought was an excellent tutorial series on the full version of AAS Strum GS-2 (Groove3, Eli Krantzberg). I believe it is free for GS-2 users courtesy of AAS. I am not sure if it is free for AAS Player/Swatches and Strum Session users. If so, knowing what's under the hood might be insightful for others as well. You don't have to watch the full set of tutorials which show the editable parameters in the full version.
  21. Over the past year or so, I have seen what looks like a major effort to add Cakewalk help materials on the Bandlab site, but I haven't looked in a few months. This page looks like a great resource for new users of Cakewalk [CbB].
