  1. So far, I've only gotten one of the three that came bundled with SONAR a few years ago. Any ADPak recommendations from people who use them and found them helpful? Thanks.
  2. Just my opinion: Based on the Multis I got with Syntronik 2, I don't think people should avoid the SYN2GB waiting to see if Multis will be included. From the ones I have that don't crash Syntronik 2 Full, they are OK as idea starters but I am guessing people will probably want to make their own. And if IK can get user presets and Multis into the ToneNet sharing system, I think that would be a good thing. For people interested in the new Instruments, from all the ones I have heard in CS and all the new presets I heard in Syntronik 2 Full (Classic Instruments), while the Multis are handy and will likely save some time, I think the larger part of the value of Syntronik 2 comes from the new synth engine with the new Edit Panel controls (4-layers, access to massive wave sets, etc.). Maybe I should ask Peter: Would I be violating anything proprietary to IK if I shared the factory Syntronik 2 Multis I have to SYN2GB participants here? They reference Instruments and Presets that are not part of the full version (i.e., the new Instruments that come with MAX or its equivalent). Without editing them (which is easy enough to do, though it would be time consuming), they are not much use to me since since I only have the limited, CS versions of the new Instruments and Presets . No longer relevant; see Peter's reply below.
  3. I assume that's an in-house e-mail. Any idea when the contents will be shared with customers? (PS: Sorry to hear your head got "sliced off.")
  4. Is this GAS-aholics semi-anonymous? ? Seriously, though, if it gets to one less than the full shebang** (buy 1 get 33) and the SYN2GB needs help getting over the top, I will pull together $35 cash + $15 jam points, $4 of which expire in June, if they use the FIFO method of accounting. Wait a sec. They are "Musicians First," not Accountants!!!! ? (So much for a brief foray into seriousness.) ? **Should I say "the MAX shebang" because Full doesn't have the 11 new instruments?
  5. BTW (re: multis). I made a test Syntronik 2 multi the other day. Today, to sort some things out with my spreadsheet, I set Syntronik 2 to use just my Sample Tank 3 Library Folder. As expected: Syntronik 2 displays and plays the Generation 1 ["v1" st3-based] presets; it does not display the Generation 2 ["v2" st4-based] presets. The st3m multis are displayed and work The st4m multis are not displayed. The test multi which included some Generation 2 presets was displayed but crashed Syntronik 2, evidently because it referenced either (1) a SYN2 instrument path or (2) a SYN2 presets. The crash is consistent with crashes I experienced with some of the multis that came with Syntronik 2 Full and which included references to Instruments and Presets I didn't have. My test multi (as an st4m) had been stored in my user's Documents folder [. . . \ Documents\IK Multimedia\Syntronik 2\Multis\Syntronik 2]. All of that is fact. Here's the conjecture: Perhaps the technical people also discovered that Multis which have erroneous Instrument or Preset paths can cause crashes, they are working on that, and Peter is waiting for the technical people to report back on it. Just a guess. It could also be that I am the only one who has been having crashes with the SYN2 Multis.

    crackling noise

If you have a standard stereo mini audio plug going from the headphones into the standard mini audio jack on the PC, it is not spdif.
  7. First Impressions: I like that it has both an Options button and a Settings button clearly visible. Its tough to get used to playing its one-note-at-a-time mode. The way the octaves on the display jump around when lower and high notes are played is "unique." The UI is a bit "minimalistic." Some of the exposed parameters work (tested a few in Voltage Modular, both the dll and the vst3). Works on my PC at the smallest sample buffer size.
  8. So does that mean if I make it through to the end of SYN2GB without buying in I am officially cured? ?

    crackling noise

WOW. I learned something. MME-32 does indeed still work (somewhat). I just tested it with a 2011 era PC using my on-board audio device. However, once I start doing anything that involves using my PCs resources (visual resources that involve updating graphics, such as opening tracks, transport/scrolling, meters moving, recording, etc. ) I started to get that stupid crackling. I don't get that with WASAPI. Just playing a plug-in (Voltage Modular) that contains a soft synth (AAS's CV-1) and an FX Rack (IK's MixBox) in realtime from a usb keyboard, I do not get the crackling. My PC is an HP with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz processor and 8 GB RAM. UPDATE: The crackling seemed to go away when I minimized Cakewalk so there was no graphical updating of visual elements. Also, after I rebooted Cakewalk (still with MME-32), the only crackling I had was on a recorded track. I didn't get the crackling recording or playing new audio tracks. During playback, I even heavily resized a number of windows thinking that might trigger the crackling. (It didn't.) Not sure if shutting down Cakewalk and restarting it a few minutes later triggered something in the audio chain that cleared up the crackling. Probably just coincidental. Also, it is possible that PC services were using resource the first time that weren't being used after rebooting Cakewalk. (I didn't have Task Manager on at the time.) [image deleted to reclaim allotment] UPDATE: Switched back from WASAPI to MME-32; added another track to the test project from yesterday; recorded another audio track; played it back with yesterday's audio tracks; Cakewalk at just under 11% CPU; Total PC bouncing between 14 and 19% CPU; Memory at 68%. No crackling today. Hope you can fine tune your PC to get the audio working. Note: Not sure why I don't have the crackling using MME-32 because LatencyMon says: [image deleted to reclaim allotment] So even though LatencyMon says, "Your system seems to have difficulty handling real-time audio and other tasks. You may experience drop outs, clicks or pops due to buffer underruns." Cakewalk and MME-32 is holding its own (no crackling). I can't explain it.
  10. Some info to try to help others sort out facts from conjecture: Facts: I had several IK products including Syntronik 2 CS and SE. Then, on April 14th, I picked up TS3.5 MAX so I could upgrade Syntronik 2 SE. On April 15th, I installed a number of things which included: SYN2_Multis.zip, which included the multis I listed above. Some of the multis contained Instrument Paths to *.st3i files Instrument Paths to *.st4i files Some of these *.st4i files (and paths) I do not have because I don't have the instruments. Conjecture: Maybe at one point IK was working on TS 4 MAX but it wasn't ready for release and so TS 3.5 MAX was released which didn't include any of the 11 SYN2 MAX instruments. but did include the multis just in case would buy them ala carte? [Insert your own conjecture here] Who knows?
  11. I can relate. If I knew that the SYN2GB was coming up, I probably wouldn't have gotten Syntronik 2 SE and TS3.5 which I got for Syntronik 2 Full. Do you think that's part of IK's marketing strategy? ?
  12. Glad you are finding it useful! I was inspired by your comment to take the CV-1 --> VM audio and run it through MixBox. (Audio Out of the VM Hosted CV-1 into Audio In of VM Hosted MixBox.) MONDO CV-1 sound! Currently just controlled by usb keyboard --> VM but no reason it couldn't come from VM modules. Yup, VM's Plug-in Hosts don't work with everything, but I have found lots that do work (most of what I have tried). Parameter Panel for MixBox (serving as a MONDO FX Rack for CV-1) up to 19 MixBox parameters for each of the FX slots which get listed in VM's I/O Module. Playing very nicely (for the most part**)!!! ? **Parameters for MixBox's 8 slots show up in VM's parameter list, but since MixBox seems to default to showing only the first 4, I had to press MB's expand button to show all 8. It was a little tricky to get VM to resize MB (close VMH editor, reopen, slide onto second monitor to force it to resize due to monitor resolution differences, slide back onto main monitor). Just in case someone is thinking this is off topic from the CV-1 Deal: Full Circle as per CV-1 and VB's comment about interconnecting modules: (1) CV-1's audio can serve as a sound source controlled (in a limited way) by VM CVs and external MIDI controls via VM and (2) CV-1 audio can then be shaped by other plugins hosted in VM. In short, if you like CV-1, it can be used in several ways within VM. Personally, I like many of the sounds AAS products make and many of the design features they have. I have a number of VM presets that use them (e.g., VM as sound source --> Objeq Delay). As per @Vernon Barnes comment, I'd love to find out there is a way using VM to tap into all the parameters the CV-1 plug-in exposes.
  13. Assuming that's a typo (can's = can't), I am trying to remember if I ever put the CV-1 into one of VM's Plug-in Hosts. When I get a chance,** I will see if I have a test preset for that. And if not, I will make one!!! But I agree with your idea: it would be nice if there were collaborative modules that would allow interconnections between different soft synth modular systems. **Hmmmm. I will look now. I am impatient! Sec. I took the last VM preset I last worked on, and swapped the CV-1 in. It sort of works in a very limited way going from VM --> CV-1. I don't see a way to assign the CV-1's CVs to the parameters exposed by the vst3. CV_1's four Macro knobs and the Output Effects knobs respond via VM, but I cannot get CV-1's (1) Reserved parameters, (2) the Internal MIDI parameters, and (3) the Program Change parameter to respond. ?
  14. It really depends on individual preferences and needs. I got started with commercial synths on a Moog decades ago, so for me a system that allows me to connect components with cables is much more natural and easier to understand. I can see what I am doing. With box synths that have so much under the hood (where almost everything is buried in menus, lists, etc.), it is not as natural for me and requires far more to understand how to do what I want to do. Maybe you are saying something like the old PC v. Mac fake debate. Macs are better for some people because they can turn them on and use them--no need to configure, fiddle, customize, etc. Besides, with Voltage Modular's I/O modules which can host softsynths and FX plug-ins, I can run different box soft synths--from soft ROMplers and other players with massive amounts of sounds that can be selected to soft synths with complicated UIs including multi-tiered preset filtering (sometimes called browsers) to make it super easy to find factory presets. Again, what is easy for one person might not be what is easy for another person. My son has used Linux for quite a number of years. He has tried to convince me that Linux is better than Windows. He can have it as far as I am concerned--way too confusing for me. Running VST3s within VM even from within Cakewalk is more intuitive for me, not at all like trying to do something with Linux!!!! ?
  15. Which "seems" like if we hit the 3000 number, they will give us "Syntronik 2 MAX" and not just all the instruments. One thing I've learned: Don't assume that what any company means by what they put on a website is what you think it means.
  16. I think its a personal thing. Each product (and other software modulars) have advantages and disadvantages in part based on personal factors as well as factors shared by groups of users. Its kind of like "I choose to use ____________________ because for me _____________, ________________, and ________________ are a better match for what I want to do (or my needs) at the moment." I chose to invest in Voltage Modular's products because (1) I got started on a Moog in college and prefer 1/4" phone jacks to banana plugs, (2) I like the many of the features built into the UI, (3) it doesn't use OpenGL, (4) it works with my aging eyesight, and a few other reasons. I stay with it because it allows me to be creative and do the kinds of things I want to do, etc. I can respect the choices that others make for themselves. I like much of what AAS products do and how they sound, but the CV-1 doesn't match my needs, but I do like how it sounds based on the factory presets I have heard. Within a day of getting Nucleus (the Voltage Modular freebie), I felt it was the right fit for me and I have not regretted getting Core + Electro Drums the next day and becoming more deeply invested in their modules and instruments.
  17. For Ignite, consumers might want to see if this is still available. (I just checked and it says just over 1 day, 16 hours left.) and it now says 16 00 hours.
  18. Have you tried excluding the specific plug-in via Menu Bar > Utilities > Cakewalk Plug-in Manager before running the VST Scan via Preferences?
  19. Hope you are doing well with the OCD. I am not familiar with Syntronik's Multis except for what I listened to tonight. For my purposes they seemed like examples and I will most likely be creating my own based on my own needs. If Peter can help secure any that come with MAX which might be missing from the ala carte instruments, great. With my own penchant for pursuing details, I will not be obsessing over them if they don't materialize since I plan on making my own. ?
  20. Yup! I stumbled onto that a day or so ago when I was exploring some of the differences between some of the IK Synth Engines (ST3, ST4, SYN, SYN2). In ST4 I saw the 6 buttons we talked about WRT SYN2, though the ST4 engine with its elements and the SYN2 engine with its Wave Sets have very different capabilities, functions, and uses. Its kind of like the same or similar features are reworked in the different products. Hope all this tech talk is not off-topic for the Deals > Syntronik 2 Group Buy Thread.
  21. Yup. In a TS2 MAX folder. Plus, from the SYN2 Installation I did on 4-15-2022 [image showing partial directory list of ST4 files removed to reclaim space] Will try to teach myself more about using and them (and creating my own with SYN2), though the ST3 video is what I expected based on what I read in the SYN2 manual. Pretty simple concept found in lots of gear over the decades. Just gotta learn the names IK uses. The video is good for that! Thanks.
  22. Good to know!!!! I looked for and found the *.st4m" files. I can try to track down where they are from. In the meantime, I am guessing if I add the location to my SYN2 Library Path and do a rescan (rebuilt the database), they will be added to SYN2. Maybe. PS: Some are in my TS2 MAX folder. Some are in a folder where I installed SYN2 temporarily on 4-19-2022. Will have to track down my pencil and paper notes to see what I installed at that time. "Stay tuned." ?
  23. I have not used Syntronik Multis, but I am interested. Based on the discussion I searched to see if I have any since I have CS, SE, and Full (not MAX of any of the 11 new MAX ala carte Instruments). Under Public Documents > IK Multimedia > Syntronik 2 > Multis > Syntronik (possibly put there by the default IK PM) folders as follows: Bass (with 2 *.st3m files) Beat (with 27 *.st3m files) Groove (with 5 *.st3m files) Groove Splits (with 3 *.st3m files) Keyboard (with 1 *.st3m file) Lead (with 2 *.st3m files) Motion (with 2 *.st3m files) Pad (with 1 *.st3m file) Not sure where they came from (or how to use them, though I can assume); just sharing this in case somewhere down the line fans of Syntronik 2 want to make a User Data Base of Syntronik 2 "factory" resources. "Knowledge is Power" "Power to the People" PS: I found where the Multis are in SYN2, and they ones in the folder are all loadable (plus Default).
  24. MME for the audio driver mode has not worked well for me over the past 10-15 years (at least). MME for the MIDI driver mode (v. UWP) works for me because my MIDI gear is older. It can be confusing to some since they are both "MME." I believe it stems from Multi Media Extensions. Not sure if it dates back to Win 3.1, Win 95, Win 98, before or after. [See Historical Notes below. ]Not sure why MME for audio is still listed as an option for today's PC, except so the software works on older computers and laptops, maybe. Doesn't the Cakewalk Reference Guide mention anything about avoiding the MME audio driver? I don't have mine handy, but according to SONAR 8.5 (c) 2009: So even "back then" MME (the audio mode) was not a first choice option. Historical Notes: "[WASAPI] is the current type of driver used in Windows 10, and supersedes MME (1991), DirectSound (1995), and WDM (1998)." "[Windows 3.1] was released to manufacturing on April 6, 1992, as a successor to Windows 3.0."
