A ruling against Sheeran would've changed the entire climate of copyright law. Nobody would be able to write any song without fear of being sued by somebody.
Then, as Rick Beato put it, (paraphrasing) every song that possibly could've been written would already be written.

The judge ruled fairly and correctly. Sheeran did NOT rip off Marvin Gaye!

Soothing. Would make an excellent musical backdrop for a travel documentary of some kind.

Intensely melancholy. Great use of effects and great arrangement.

I posted this before a few years ago. I don't remember how it was received but I'm posting it again because I recently bought a sample library called "Light as a Flautist" by Straight Ahead Samples and I wanted to try it out right away without having to wait for another idea to come by. This song has a flute duet so I just replaced the original samples I used with the new sample library. If you never heard of Straight Ahead Samples you should check it out, The sampling technology is amazing. I also have the tenor sax program which I featured in the last song I posted. So, I hope you can enjoy "The Songbird".

John, I loaded X3 Producer (boy its been awhile since I ran that) and had to scan with Plugin Manager to get all the Ozone plugs to come up.
I have Ozone 7 - 10 installed and the Imager came up in all of them.
Loaded fine.If Program Files/Common Files/VST3 in the "scan path" sub-folders don't matter, Sonar/CbB will pick them up.
(on my system all VST3's are "lumped" in the VST3 folder. I have sorted everything into sub-folders manually)HTH,
t
btw, If CbB is "seeing" the plugin you shouldn't have to copy/paste anything.
The funny thing is, Tom, Ozone Imager is in the menu and can be used if I open a new instance of it. Now, one would think that would work, but the problem is that I had an instance of OI already on a track that I put there when I created the project. That's the one that doesn't open up. It shows up in brackets and when I click on it it says something about it not being installed properly. The reason why I want to to use that particular instance (without opening a new one) is that the settings I used on that instance of OI can't be copied so I have to set it up all again, which isn't hard to do, really, but it a mystery as to why the current OI saved in the project can't be used and also, why I can't export/import the original settings of the one that's already there. I know it's a mouthful but there it is.
Thanks for your suggestions, just the same.

@bitflipper @DeeringAmps I looked in Program Files/Common Files/VST3 and found several VST Files outside of folders but Ozone Imager wasn't among them. But there is a folder called Izotope which has a file called iZOzoneSBimager.dll which is listed as an Application Extension. I tried copy/pasting it into the main folder amongst the other VST Files but no joy. 😔
Any other suggestions?

I think I might've figured it out. When I looked in Sonar's VST plugin folder there were only three locations scanned, so it might be what Bitflipper said about rescanning the folders because CbB had many more folders in the scanned menu. I'll have to try to locate every folder in there and make sure they're scanned by Sonar.
I'll get back to you. Thanks!

Is one instance VST2 and the other VST3?
The plugin is in only one folder, VST 3.

Is this what the error message said? Unrecognized format?
Were you using the standalone imager, or a full instance of Ozone?
If you've updated Ozone since X3 days, you might just need to rescan plugins in X3. I don't remember if old Sonar had the Reset option for the scanner, but if it does I'd start with that.
The error message says that it is improperly installed.

The other day I tried opening some of my recent projects made in CbB into my old Sonar X3 Studio. They opened OK but on one I used the Ozone Imager. It was in brackets and upon clicking on it produced an error. I went into plugin menu and just opened a new Ozone which worked fine but I wanted to copy the settings from the project using the Save/Load feature. I went back into CbB to export the settings and when I went back into Sonar to load the VST file it wasn't there. Sonar didn't recognize the format.
What's going on there?
Thanks

the music:
most impressive, that's a great arrangement/composing, the playing and interweaving of all the instruments was excellent, the bass playing (I'd turn it up a dB), piano playing and horns are excellent, the drums don't create a groove but do move the song in the correct directions as required (slow, medium, quick tempos)
the vocals:
took awhile for me to understand your vocal style because I've not heard anything like it before (like some of Joni Mitchell's more daring vox), and, truthfully, I really don't listen to music with vocals much at all anymore (excepting Thievery Corporations songs with Lou Lou and some of their other extraordinary singers) so, I think you are an acquired taste vocally but your music is most impressive; compositionally excellent, extremely well played, recorded, mixed and mastered, looking forward to a lot more🎶🎶🎶🎶
Thanks so much, Larry. It is pleasing to know that as a guy who doesn't listen to many vocal projects you have chosen to check me out.

I agree the intro could be a bit shorter but it's no biggie if it's an artistic thing. Your horns are interesting. What are you using, if you don't mind my asking?

I think my Mom took to heart the Winston cigarette ad about lower birth weight and easier delivery. I was barely over 5 pounds when I was born and had weak lungs as a result. She "confessed" that to my wife when she was pregnant with our son in 1981.
Terrific video and the music fits perfectly.

I enjoy this very much but it sounds to me that it needs more of a melody in the front. As it is it's a great background but a lead type of line would take it to another dimension.

Oops yes, I was looking at the wrong number when seeing the spot I mentioned, yes it is more like 2:25 sorry for the confusion. I figured it was a horn thing there maybe some technique I am not familiar with, which is many.
@treeshaNo worries. Thanks again.

Out of the box! Those horns sound really nice! The chord arrangement is not typical and it was interesting listening to you latch on to it. Cool stuff!

Really good instrumentation going on here John. Love the horns. I always like your lyrics, no exception here.
The voc has some high notes and then some pretty low notes. Maybe keep the pitches within the same range. Just a suggestion.

Enjoyed the lyrics - horns sound good as well
Interesting arrangement - I can hear what Treesha called distortion on the horns starting at 2.25 - but I don't think it's distortion, it's the low sax I think - perhaps it could be smoothed a bit
Otherwise all good
Nigel
@Bajan BlueThanks, Nigel!
I was a bit confused on @treesha's comment because of the time mark she mentioned. She said her observation was @3:45, which kind of puzzled me because that's where the song ends, but you clarified it as being @ 2:25. What you're hearing there are 2 low horns, ( baritone sax and a bass trombone) doing a "Tower Of Power style" lick where the low bari sax puts down some funk and the higher horns do a response. The 5 horn line up there is bass trombone, bari sax, tenor sax and 2 trumpets. I can see that it could be mistaken as distortion as the samples are a bit bright, but it's not.

There's some venom behind this song, I can tell.
I hope you are well mate
Very cool song and arrangement however, there are a lot of offbeat rhythms working against each other and no constant. Maybe simplify the piano to straight 1/8ths? Only my opinion - no offence meant as I really like the song.
Love that muted trumpet ....
Hello, @daryl1968Daryl. Thanks so much for listening and your useful comments. I am well, thank you.😀
No offense taken. Thank you for your observation. 😉
