  1. This video explains everything about audio and Cakewalk.
  2. Basically if you want to automate a light show while using backing tracks you need to use a DAW that handles both Midi and Audio for your playback engine which most do including Cakewalk. Cakewalk has a Playlist feature just for this. I have never heard of a lighting rig using SMPTE? But Midi to DMX is common.
  3. I used that link a month ago and it was an up to date version?
  4. Find a 1984 Chevy Van like I have. Get in and see if you know how to start it. You won’t find any technology. The clock is analog. You pull or flick switches. That’s what Cakewalk is like. It doesn’t use the carburetor any more but they had to add throttle body fuel injection. Now it will have Proper fuel injection and a wireless key fob. Led lights, ABS brakes, traction control, cruise control with sensors, Air bags and on and on. There’s only so much you can do to a 1984 Chevy Van to modernize it.
  5. Yes no point in actually using X3 but still install it and all the extra plug ins first. Then install the latest version of Cakewalk which is exactly the same as X3 but has all the bug fixes and some new features that are definitely worth having. Think of Cakewalk by Bandlab as being Sonar X8. It’s still available free just go to the top of the forum here and look for the links. I have a series of Tutorials that will bring you up to speed a lot faster than guess work and head scratching.
  6. The Samsung Magician offers that option. And yes in all cases I was doubling my drive size. In the past I always thought a clean rebuild was best but man it’s a time consuming task to re install all your software and plug ins. Only XLN needed a Computer re authorized which was a 3 minute task.
  7. Talking to the wind. Almost a month. The OP has revisited the forum but has not responded. @Jerry Pettit did you forget you asked a question?
  8. My recommendation is bulletproof and only for the final project used for playback. That project will have minimal CPU as well as load super fast if you use Cakewalks playlist. Freezing instruments is a temporary fix for CPU needed and the projects will still have to load all the instruments and effects. More things to go wrong so not bulletproof.
  9. Worth mentioning here is that for $50 you can purchase a Samsung Evo SSD. They have a management app called the Magician that I used to Migrate my C drive to the brand new drive . It took about 20 minutes. Done. I did this on3 computers now all running better than ever after the upgrade . SSD drives will slow down and act up in a very short life span if they are being constantly written and erased. Changing a SSD drive is easier than changing the oil in your car now. And about the same price.
  10. In the views menu is a Marker view where you can edit.
  11. I mean while the song was playing did you look at the projects tempo reading in the transport module? Did it show the correct tempo? Here is a possible solution to creating bulletproof projects for live performance. First I recommend using 48 as your global sample rate for both system and Cakewalk. Better quality and compatible with both music and movies. Audio is bulletproof so very easy way to create 100% audio projects is this. Working with backup projects. Open the project and now export it as Tracks through entire mix. Use 48/ 32 for best quality no dithering is needed. This will create a clean audio track for each track of the song including any midi instruments and effects used. Now create a new project using an appropriate template and drag the audio into it. You now have a clean project with all the instruments.
  12. What he is implying is sometimes your system is set for as 44.1Mhz and you try and play a 48 MHz project in Cakewalk and it will play slow/ fast? But it’s been a long time since that happened to me and I seem to remember that it was also out of key Like playing a 45 record at 33 on a turntable. Did you take note of what the Tempo in the Transport was reading?
  13. I have to agree with @azslow3 There is definitely a huge difference in ASIO drivers between manufacturers. RME is always seems to be at the top of the heap for a long time now. Many manufacturers drivers are first designed for Mac users which might be a larger slice of the pie in the pro audio world. Just open the web page and look at the pictures at the top of the page. Mac. I have 6 different brands of audio interfaces on hand and they are all definitely very different in what buffers they can work under. I would love to be able to afford an RME but I get by OK with what I have because I also agree with @Byron Dickens and after 40 + years of audio engineer experience I don’t need turd polish to get good tracks. If you want power you should use Pro Tools on Mac Book pro.
  14. Boy do you have that right. Myself I only visit the Main forum and here. I rarely look at the other sub forums. I sometimes look at the Question and answer sub forum but it seems like a place that takes about a week or so to change much. I would say the Tutorial sub forum is the darkest corner of this place. I Posted some complete garbage on my thread there a few months ago and so far nobody has seemed to notice it. I like the idea of the song forum but it also seems a private club of people telling each other their songs are really great when they are actually ?? I was hoping for more , John, your song sucks, you better re do it from the ground up. We are all just to dang polite here.
  15. Possibly if you didn't watch 2001: Space Odyssey you might be on the dark side of the Moons about this term Just ask HAL. He usually knows the correct answer.
  16. Yes, as Jonesy said the Sample rate, But I think they also then play out of key? Bottom line, don't use technology for music playback without being a 100% bonified 1st Class Nerd computer geek. Better to hire a drunk drummer and 2 fingered bass player.
  17. Probably 32 bit stuff so needed replacement anyways
  18. Remember in your other post how I mentioned your issues could be due to your SSD drive. You didn’t respond so not sure you read it. Go read it.
  19. Obviously the Motu tech support person is a Mac user and has not updated his/ her knowledge of Windows WASAPI drivers. I was assuming this is a brand new audio interface. How old is the Motu? You are calling it a Card?
  20. That was Will. I'm not sure why he tossed that at you even though I agree it's a very good idea as far as Sample rates go. I recommend people keep everything at 48. There's also a minor improvement in latency with 48. Clock rates need to match when you switch apps. Bit Depth doesn't conflict. Cakewalk can run audio using multiple bit depths. You are trying to sort out why your bit depth is only 16 so windows setting are outside of where you need to look to fix this. If your interface was 10 years old, then ya, it might be 16 bit, but it's not ( or is it?)
  21. If you read the rest of my post you would see I came to this possible conclusion as well. As I said, it's not exactly 100% clear. Any how I'm waiting to hear from the OP so they can confirm they have tried re installing the latest driver.
  22. Example here is another tidbit from Noel
  23. If you buy it from Amazon and it doesn’t work they ask no questions and you can easily return it. Hint, hint.
  24. We can assume this but then here’s a aspect of this I don’t fully understand. I regularly will export a project and when it’s finished I double click on the file which opens Windows media player and plays the song. The audio is playing through my interfaces outputs. Cakewalk is still open and therefore the ASIO audio engine is still running . So this implies to me that Windows Media Player is also using ASIO.? Or? A new interest factor that @Starship Krupa pointed out to me is the Windows Audio Mixer. Cakewalk in ASIO and WASAPI exclusive bypasses it. Other open audio apps like WMP don’t. Cakewalk running WASAPI shared also is controlled by the mixer. So my theory is Cakewalk is using ASIO which bypasses the mixers controls but other apps like WMP or Chrome are simultaneously using WASAPI shared mode and the mixer is we’re this is summed and sent on to the USB output to the interface. Take note that I don’t check the take exclusive control options. Anyhow the red flag as I said is almost all audio interfaces these days run at 24 bit. You can’t even choose anything else. So the ASIO driver is not installed correctly. And the OP still didn’t respond about the Motu Control Panel. That is a key point. If the driver is installed properly the Control panel will tell you all is working.
  25. I keep forgetting, Floppies were magnetic weren't they?
