Johnbee58 Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Recorded with CbB featuring Toontrack EZ Drummer 2 & EZ Keys, Trilian Bass, Session Strings Pro 2, Xpand2 and DX7V synths (I think I got everything). Dedicated to and about the 9 Muses who, according to Greek mythology, are where all musical and artistic creativity comes from. I hope all are well and surviving the pandemic. https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=14152928 ? John B 5
Lynn Wilson Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 John, this is terrific! Very sophisticated, cool jazz with an amazing vocal performance that has a place in the Steely Dan neighborhood. Your mix is well panned and arranged. I don't know of anybody who could have done it better. The lyrics are very nice, too. Nice going! 1
DeeringAmps Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Really liking the groove on this one John. ?'s t btw, welcome back 1
David Sprouse Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 I love your voice, so unique. good job on lyrics. Is this an east coast jazz sound? 1
KSband Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Yes, Steely Dan was the first thing that came to mind too. I've always tried to write a Dan song but have never come close. Very cool song. I was thinking that doubling your vocals on parts of it might sound good, kind of thicken it up a little to emphasize the chorus maybe. 1
noynekker Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 John . . . this is very good, enjoyed it beginning to end . . . and, I think it also speaks to me very personally, especially as a songwriter. There is zero mud, you have a recording that sounds very clear to my ears. Well done ! You've been away for a while . . . PLEASE STAY, write some more and post them right here for us. 1
daryl1968 Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Great stuff John - really enjoyed it. Vocal performance and mix are spot on. 1
bjornpdx Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 The lyrics have a lot of meaning for me. The style of your music (someone mentioned Steely Dan) is intricate and weaves in and out. Something I wouldn't attempt but you do it well. I enjoyed your muse inspired creation. 1
Johnbee58 Posted December 12, 2020 Author Posted December 12, 2020 @Lynn Wilson@DeeringAmps@David Sprouse@kurt soderquist@noynekker@daryl1968 @bjornpdx Thanks so much, guys! @noynekker I've been continuing to make music since I took leave in March. I plan on putting up another tune or two in the near future, but I don't plan on being here with as much intensity as before. ? JB 3
mark skinner Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 That was Fantastic! Sure got that Steele Dan vibe down. I Really enjoyed the listen. mark 1

PhonoBrainer Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 (edited) That was very cool, very Dan-like, a total compliment in my opinion - the mix is very clear, I like the string pad that floats in the background at times, and the bass poppin stuff really adds as well. You might consider as suggested above doubling the vocal in spots, maybe the choruses? That would add a whole 'nuther level of polish to this. Well done! Your chord progressions are killer! cheers, -Tom Edited December 21, 2020 by emeraldsoul 1
Johnbee58 Posted December 22, 2020 Author Posted December 22, 2020 Thanks Tom. ? Actually, the choruses are doubled as is all of the last verse but it might not be as apparent as I'd like it to be. I'll have to have a listen on my speakers later. Maybe my Fix Doubler needs a boost there. ? John B
Douglas Kirby Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 I really liked the jazzy vibe of this song - a really cool groove to this one. The bass in this sounds great - good job there. I thought the mix was excellent - sounded quit nice to my ears. 1

jack c. Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 good recording job.record your voice a second time to give ya a meater quality and some parts need to recorded again as their not in pitch when it comes to higher notes. another choice would be to add an octave 12 notes down to give more body.love those jazz chords. 1

Bajan Blue Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 John Definitely shades of Steely Dan as others have said, but all its own thing and way cool Great job Nigel 1

thegaltieribrothers Posted January 10, 2021 Posted January 10, 2021 Hi John B, Another great JohnBee58 original - a really great idea for a song with great lyrics. I think my muses are the seven dwarves but I'm not as cerebral as your good self ? Love the punchy bass + overall arrangement. Thanks for sharing. Good Job! regards paul 1
