  1. The process is documented here http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=NewFeatures.022.html It is for converting MIDI CC automation not plug-in parameter automation. I suppose one could reassign parameter automation to a CC but I have no idea if it would be usable.
  2. CA2A has a sidechain input. It came in ProChannel, VST2/3 and AAX formats for Windows and AU, AAX and VST3 for Mac OS X. The PC2A is a ProChannel module and does not have a sidechain input.
  3. There are two basic track types: audio and MIDI. All others are derived from those two. A (Simple) instrument track is a presentation layer above an audio+MIDI track pair. Instrument tracks have steadily improved since their introduction years ago. The Add Track menu instrument tab defaults to creating instrument tracks but can create audio+MIDI track pairs on demand. The only way to record audio directly from a soft synth is with an audio track. This may either be the audio track from an audio+MIDI track pair or if using an instrument track an additional audio track with its input pointing to the same synth. For more info see synth audio recording in the help.
  4. It's a Windows thing. The main menu is called with Alt. The underlined letters are the rest of the accelerator key combination. So in this case: Alt = main menu i= Insert y = Insert Synth... Press each key one at a time to see Windows default accelerator key behavior in action. Of course, the keys after Alt are program dependent. I have no idea if a particular function would work well exposed for binding but my guess is the function called by the track view track header content menu option Insert Instrument... may a better choice than the function called by Insert > Soft Synth... from the main menu. Insert Instrument... is a newer method calling the Add Tracks menu instrument tab which includes synth selection and options in one dialog. That said, I prefer the flexibility of the Insert Soft Synth Options dialog but Add Tracks menu could be improved.
  5. The item circled in yellow is just an example of a file name generated by the entry immediately above it. Given multiple files may be created on export, no attempt is made to show exactly what file(s) are created by the export process.
  6. It is true, the function called by Insert > Soft Synth... is not exposed for binding. The only reason I can think of is, unlike the other insert "track" functions, "Insert Soft Synth" launches a menu instead of actually inserting a track into the project. This is also the case with Insert > Rewire Device. When I mention things like accelerator keys, it is a way, and in this case a very similar way, to perform the requested task (i.e. keyboard shortcut binding albeit predefined in the program). If you were going to say "Global Menu," that's the name I use for the menu at the top of the main Cakewalk window (shows Track View by default). It might be called "Main Menu?" I haven't run across the nomenclature in the documentation. My guess is that you know, so please fill me in if you are inclined. Why take my post out of context? The question was specifically about the term "Insert window" in the post immediately above mine. I suspected the user meant Insert Soft Synth Options dialog but wanted to make sure. Aside from the Add Track menu all the other methods of inserting synths call the "Insert Soft Synth Options dialog" (as long as "Ask every time" is enabled in the dialog) after the synth has been selected. This is why my response to post "That only opens the menu list" started with "Of course, it all starts with selecting a synth." As for "Global Menu" vs. "Main Menu", this is the first time I recall hearing the term "Global Menu" but I understood it to mean the menu at the top of the application. Personally, I call these the "Main Menu" in any program but the meaning in the OP was clear. As with most feature requests, I have no objection to the request. Generally my replies in this part of the forum are suggestions to accomplish similar results with the tools at hand while waiting for the request to be implemented. Granted in this case, there is no way to create a custom module button but there is a predefined keyboard shortcut.
  7. @abacab, I believe all the user wants is the label pane (the keyboard to the left of the notes pane in the PRV) to indicate which of the virtual keys is pressed like it does for other MIDI input options. It appears the virtual keyboard is inserting data into the MIDI stream after the PRV label pane display. For now, if one really needs this feature, it can be done by using the virtual keyboard in a MIDI/instrument track before the track to record and routing the track with the virtual keyboard to the recording track using either a virtual MIDI cable or plug-in that can output MIDI. Or use a third party virtual keyboard as they will come into the DAW like any other MIDI input device.
  8. You know if they removed legacy methods, those that stick may by continually stymied by having to learn new ways of doing things. This may just as frustrating to existing users as having multiple ways of doing things is to new users. There are several ways to add instruments to a project. It would be surprising if all of them were not used in the field. Some users may employ more than one method. For example, if my mouse is near the browser, I might use drag and drop from the browser. If it is near the track headers I might use the context menu or directly click on the add tracks menu. I rarely use the main menu insert soft synth option though, however; others are on record preferring this option. I agree, creating tutorials for new users need to be simple. Detailing multiple methods may be overwhelming. Still once the concepts are understood, learning different ways to do the same thing has its advantages. The export module, introduced with SONAR Platinum, has several simplified export dialogs. It also is a convenient way to see how long a project or selection is. The module has been extended to include export to BandLab. For new users, I am not sure if I would even bother to discuss the new advanced export dialog. At least not in the initial discussion about exporting a project.
  9. yes, from https://www.audiodamage.com/collections/software/products/ad034-eos-2
  10. To repeat, the Event Inspector module operates on any selected MIDI notes. Select the notes in the Event List, Piano Roll, Staff, Track view and change them in the Event Inspector. The Event List view uses click, SHIFT+click and CTRL+click in the left column to create the selection. The rest of the views have other methods of selecting notes.
  11. Of course, it all starts with selecting a synth. The OP writes This has a default accelerator key combination and it seems to address the main complaint What exactly is the This is not something mentioned in the OP. Autohotkey may not be the "answer" but it is available today and may be leveraged in a variety of situations while waiting for developers to tailor their programs to suit user requests.
  12. Most options on the main menu have pre-defined accelerator keys and Insert Soft Synth is one of them.
  13. For now try ALT+i+y If that is unsatisfying, a few minutes of quality time with autohotkey may be worthwhile (not just for CbB)

    NEWB Question

Glad you found the noise maker. If you need a replacement ampsim, CbB includes a version of Overloud's TH3.
  15. If is not an ASIO issue. Most interfaces work with UseHardwareSamplePosition set to True. Digidesign interfaces are an exception and the only time I have ever seen this setting needing to be changed. There may be others, but I am not aware of any.
  16. @msmcleod , Digidesign interfaces need a change to aud.ini to run correctly. The timing issue in the OP is why I ask about the audio interface.
  17. Could have dealt with this 20 minutes ago if you had answered the interface question I suspected as much, see

    NEWB Question

Drum Replacer does not have a demo mode. Melodyne is a timed demo. When the demo expires, the editor is no longer available but the mono MIDI to Audio and tempo detection algorithms still work. Neither of these plug-ins produce periodic noise.

    NEWB Question

Periodic noise is one way plug-in manufacturers indicate their plug-ins are in demo mode.
  20. Try using the Event Inspector for bulk changes Select the MIDI data to change. Enter the channel in the Event Inspector.

    Imported MIDI

Bear in mind "Base Octave for Pitches" changes what note names are displayed not the note values. Internally all DAWs work with MIDI note values not names. The MIDI note values are the same regardless of the display. IOW, the GM kick drum is note value 35 regardless of the DAW. I find it easier to use instrument names rather than note names when working with drums. To that end, I right-click on the keyboard in the Piano Roll View and set the note names dialog to display drum names. When using the step sequencer, I use a drum map (at least until the step sequencer is updated to support alternate names like the PRV).
  22. If the plug-ins are listed as FX run a VST Reset from Preferences > File > VST Settings If the plug-ins are not listed in the plug-in lists at all. They are either not in the scan path, not installed or have been removed. The Studio Instruments installer puts files in three locations. The default location for these files are Folders for each plug-in under "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Studio Instruments" for documentation, resources and samples Folders for each plug-in under "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins" for the plug-in dlls Folders for each plug-in under "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Studio Instruments" for patterns and programs BA keeps track of what it has installed using registry entries. If the files have been (re)moved after install BA still may have a record of what it has installed. If this is the case, the Add-on Installers in BA will be disabled. One can either mess with the registry to satisfy BA or use the Cakewalk Web Installer to (re)install the the SI Suite. At this time the Cakewalk Web Install does not keep track of what it has installed. Uninstalling the DAW does not clean up the registry. To perform a clean install (which does remove registry entries) see https://help.cakewalk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360034066393-Clean-Install-Cakewalk-by-BandLab
