I'm dead? No one told me!

Well, duh. I always need a new guitar. When I got the attempting to repair dialog, there was something about the drive being repaired, it did so then attempted to update, froze.

My thoughts are with you and your wife. My grandmother Cleo underwent a similar operation in 1967 and was fine. Imagine what they can do now.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Unfortunately, everything I did led back to the 'trying to update and then freezing' debacle. So, I went with the nuclear option. Just got done with reloading Windows (resetting), and everything seems to be working. Fortunately, I don't have a huge number of programs on this box or a Bapu amount of plug-ins, so it was relatively painless. It's not a great computer, but it's what I have and is certainly faster than the laptop I was using at the beginning of this fred. Oh, don't forget to back up and set a restore point!

I unplugged from the router and got the same 'trying to update and freezing' result.

The computer I use for the internet and CbB is not well. I was doing a little maintenance on it yesterday and saw there were some optional updates ready. I clicked 'download' and continued to surf. When I was done, i saw that the update progress bar was still at 0% an hour later. I had things to do so I clicked the power button and set it to update and restart and went to run my errands. Three hours later I returned and the box was frozen on the screen shown below. I let it run for a couple more hours with no change. Eventually, I turned it off with the physical power button. Awhile later, I switched it back on and got "Preparing to Repair" and "Diagnosing PC" messages after which it went back to the update attempt and froze again. I let it run over night, still frozen. Is there any way in BIOS to make it start without trying to complete the update, which causes the freeze? Win 10, updated from 7, can't get the version right now, as the thing is still locked up. I can get to BIOS via F10 when restarting. Then what?

I forgot what it's called; just drag the bottom of it up to hide it.

Recently Discovered 1967 Gibson Factory Tour
57Gregy replied to SteveStrummerUK's topic in The Coffee House
Cool vid, Steve. Did anyone see a Les Paul anywhere? This might have been during the period when Les and Gibson were on the outs. -
I think I would export the vocal tracks to another folder or thumb drive and not worry about the project file on the laptop. Then load that vocal track into the main DAW. No need to Save As and mess up your instrument assignments.

Lots of old users had no idea they existed (raises hand).

Doesn't 15% free also mean almost 85% full, i.e. running out of space?

Do you mean Cakewalk by Bandlab, or Bandlab?

How to Slow Down Backing Tracks for Practice and Avoid Dropouts
57Gregy replied to Jamie Rosen's question in Q&A
None at all, as long as you remember to NOT save it at the end of the session. You would have to remember to Undo (Ctrl Z) after each iteration. You could also copy all the tracks and work on the copies to your hearts content without altering the originals. I don't know if repeatedly Lengthening and undoing a track will screw it up, which is why I typically work on copies. -
Are we still on this? Oops. I guess we are. ?

Applying the effect is permanent, it can't be undone once you save and close the project. Freezing can be undone with no permanent alteration to the audio.

Right. When they ask me how long is my "finger span", I can say 18.

I have no formal music education whatsoever. But, there was a time when people actually paid me to play music, as hard as that is to believe. I would not push a child to do something they may not want to do just because they might get paid more in 30 years. Saying that, I believe there is no bad education.

Welcome. Which item do you want to get rid of?

How to Slow Down Backing Tracks for Practice and Avoid Dropouts
57Gregy replied to Jamie Rosen's question in Q&A
I'm sure there's more than one way to do it, but I just tried a method in CbB, the one I would use for its simplicity. Assuming the tracks are all audio, I would bounce them down to a single stereo track in the same project. Do that by selecting all the tracks you want, going to Tracks>Bounce to Tracks and selecting busses as the source, then Master bus. Also assuming the tracks are going through your Master bus. Once that master track is rendered, select that track only, then go to Process at the top, then Length. I did 120%, which slowed it down quite a bit. So, now you have a slow track and your fast track(s) all in the same project. Solo whichever one you're working on and when you're through, you could delete the slow tracks if you want. If they are MIDI through soft synths, you would have to render the MIDI to audio first. Welcome to the forum. -
Sonar 8.5 Producer: Is There a 64-Bit Version of PerfectSpace?
57Gregy replied to Annabelle's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
"Is this Cakewalk By Band Lab software compatible with screenreaders like JAWS (Job Access With Speech)? Will it work on a machine with Windows 7 installed? Are there features similar to Sonar 8.5 Producer Edition? These are especially important questions I'm asking, should there ever come a time I may need to upgrade my motherboard or processor. Hopefully that's not gonna happen anytime soon!" Annabelle asked in the "Still Using SONAR?" thread if her screen reader would work in CbB. I pasted in some info from the Reference Guide about how to possibly go about that, but she will need that confirmed before she can use CbB. Has anyone used a screen reader in Cakewalk? -
Removing a range of unwanted notes from a MIDI file

Often, when a plug-in has focus, clicking the computer's F1 key will open the plug-in's Help.
