  1. SONAR X1 still works on my XP SP3 PC; SONAR X3 (and some pre-X versions of SONAR) work on my Windows 10 Pro PCs. Unless Noel or someone official has announced what will happen with activation (will it still be required?) that is an open issue. My guess (100% speculation) is that re-activation for existing licenses will be required. It seems like a logical way to make sure that only existing users of CbB can continue to use it. But maybe the development team has something else in mind. In any case, (1) I accept what they have said (it will continue to be available to existing users) and (2) I will wait until they announce what will happen with re-activation. To me, not being supported means no updates, no bug fixes. My "elders" had a saying that was passed down to later generations, "Don't borrow trouble." For me its a variation of "I'll cross that bridge when we get there." ? But you are right--at some point, someone might complain about having to re-activate CbB and the owner (current or future) might stop the activation server. Based on what has happened over the past 5 years, I am choosing to wait and see. I understand that some people might want to jump ship. That's fair in my opinion. We each have to make our own decisions. As for me, I have considerably less income than I did when I was into purchasing new versions of Cakewalk/SONAR. Depending on the pricing structure, I might not be able to afford either of the new products. So, I do understand where people are coming from.
  2. Good question. I was able to activate the limiter just from putting in my username/password during the activate process. After that, I realized I have never activated Drumazon on my current PC. So I ran the installer, followed the instructions to download a *.KEY file, and pointed the plug-in's activation dialog to the KEY. It was a zillion times easier than trying to get the free Indie Melodica instrument working in NI's Kontakt 6 Player. It would be good if someone who doesn't already have an account can create one and let others know if the limiter can be activated.
  3. I had an account from another freebie I got (Drumazon, through Plug-in Boutique a few years ago), but from what I can see you can sign up for a free account. I like D16's approach because we can download it first (unlike many other freebies).
  4. Since this is really a request by one person for a Black & White theme, off-topic content related to other high-contrast possibilities has been removed.
  5. If you are serious, I hope you saw that we will be able to continue to use CbB. It just won't have any updates.
  6. In the US the cover of the Carlos version was like the one pictured in the Vimeo but with English wording. The Official Soundtrack version had large section of white on the cover. I am not sure if that was true for other countries. Googling "clockwork orange album cover" might jog your memory in case you can't find it (or don't want to search for it) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Clockwork_Orange_(soundtrack) shows the soundtrack version. Is Timesteps the full version or just an excerpt? Wikipedia says the soundtrack version has Timesteps (excerpt) = 4:13. Also the sound track version has music not realized by Carlos. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Clockwork_Orange:_Wendy_Carlos's_Complete_Original_Score shows the full version of Timesteps is 13:50.
  7. "I remember grabbing it as well as posting the links in the old Forum." Maybe that's the one I grabbed. I looked in the old forum for the post earlier today, but didn't see it.
  8. But, but . . . trying to sort out where the comparisons are valid and where they fall apart is more fun than doing sudoku and crossword puzzles. Also it is not as challenging as matrixed logic puzzles. You know, "There are seven families on the same block living either next to each other or across the street whose last names are colors of the rainbow. Each has a car but only one owns a car that matches the family name. Two have cars that match the name of their neighbors. Three have cars that match the name of a family on the other side of the street. " etc. ?
  9. Good point. In fact one of my decision-making factors not to buy into the product called "SONAR Platinum (with Lifetime Updates)" was my concern that all they had to do was retire that product in favor of a different product. I vaguely recall that I had something like that happen before. (Kind of like, "No, you are not entitled to the new product, because this is a different product.") Although it might be nice to say my decision was "smart" or that I had ESP, it was more based on learned skepticism of the games corporations play. That being said, if there is a reward, perk, discount, or something for loyal, long-term paid users of Cakewalk/SONAR and I hope its not just for those for who paid Gibson for SONAR Platinum (with Lifetime Updates) and who got up to five years worth of free updates from Bandlab and the developers after the product was discontinued /reached the end of its life.
  10. DAMN!!!! Now I am starting to get cravings for white popcorn doused with powdered cheese-flavored product. Of course, I don't need the NaCL plus the shell fragments always get caught under my gums causing irritation issues. ? Fortunately I have some small yellow corn tortillas I can toast and have with salsa and cheese! ?
  11. I was not challenging your right (legitimacy) to worry. I was offering what I thought was a helpful suggestion. You can worry all you want. However, I would rather read information about the products (new info as it becomes available) instead of people rehashing the same-old same-old expressions of worrying. Let me be clear, I never said that worrying wasn't a legitimate human reaction to any sort of news. Trust me, at my ripe old age, I have done tons of worrying. So I understand perfectly what goes into worrying. Worry on!!!! Peace.
  12. Isn't that why an unlocked / one-time only activation version of Home Studio was made available (so that people would continue to have access to their projects)?

  14. PS: In the unlikely event that I was wrong about the activation issue ("I am sure we will find out in due time") and we don't have 6-months to make plans, I just refreshed my activation.
  15. No need to worry; I am sure we will find out in due time. Here's how I look at it: If the 6-month activation requirement will be in effect after the final CbB update, we will have 6 months after that final update to make alternate plans if we so desire. If the 6-month activation requirement is gone, worrying between now and then will have been a waste of time for the worrier, for people who reply, for people who have to sort through the same-old same-old discussion that is going around in circles getting nowhere fast, etc. Don't worry; be happy!!
  16. For those who like what Waverley Instruments does, they have a very active presence with Voltage Modular modules (FX and instruments). They even have a FZ Guitar FX module. (As noted elsewhere, VM can be run as an FX Rack in Cakewalk by Bandlab.) Kontakt not required.
  17. NOTE: The album itself starts at 1:05. At the time there were two sound track albums, one from the movie (official soundtrack album) and one that had full versions of the music Carlos composed / realized for the movie. I learned something new today: Nowadays, you can see graphic violence on television and from other uncensored media sources. JMO: Times have changed.
  18. WARNING: Listen at your own risk. Yoko (not known for her intonation) is the lead singer. I think the song would have been better had there been autotune. The Phil Spector echo helps a little. Still, I think its a catchy tune. (Not sure if they used auto tune for the remastering.) Notes: The original album (Some Time in New York City) is from 1972. It is of historical note because the double album contains material from when John and Yoko joined Zappa on stage at the Fillmore East June 1971. Lennon (and Spector, IIRC) "produced" the material from Zappa's recordings in such a way that it was instantly recognized as horrible (IMO). Most notably the mix was of subpar quality and Lennon renamed and took credit for material he had no part in writing. But this song is about "Sisters" (in the 1960s -1970s socially conscious sense).
  19. I got a pop-up from RadControls when running the 1.1.8 Setup saying that the software is for evaluation purposes only. Are other people getting that? If not, I will have to check to see if I have some sort of malware that was trigger by installing 1.1.8. Thanks. UPDATE: I installed 1.1.7.1 which didn't work (can't connect) and then reinstalled 1.1.8.1. This time I didn't get the RadControls pop-up. Launched SONAR Home Studio. It worked! ? Thanks.
  20. I wouldn't mind having some Fresh Air instead of all the PM10 and PM2.5 toxic garbage being circulated.
  21. LOL. I just saw this. Please don't blame me for bringing up the issue of activation!!!!!! ? Now I know why JohnnyV (the Cakewalk Tutorialist formerly using "Cactus" in his name) asked me: To which I replied there was no reference to activation: It doesn't say anything about the removal of the activation time out. So far I have only seen discussion (questions/speculation) by users. But honestly, there's too much Chicken Little stuff going on for me to keep track of what users are saying. But if I find a definitive statement about the activation feature, I will let you know. I think the reason I didn't see the comments in this thread earlier is that I was really sick and tired of overwhelmed by the Chicken Littles, the blame Bandab for the sins of Gibson diatribes, and the "Well, if they are going to to it that way, I want nothing to do with it!" posts and I just tuned out a number of the threads related to the Cakewalk Next/Sonar announcement. BTW, I was encouraged by the video X.E.L. Ohhh did for the benefit of his followers. He basically goes over what's on the website, adding some personal insights and hopes with his typical positive and encouraging demeanor. His perspective was so refreshing to me after reading many of the negative posts in the forum. Peace!
  22. https://www.cakewalk.com/sonar Scroll down to the FAQs > Will Cakewalk by BandLab be discontinued? It doesn't say anything about the removal of the activation time out. 23. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I was asking if you had evidence, not speculation. This has already been addressed in the forum.
