Any discount for original cakewalk owners?
DeeringAmps replied to Rickddd's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Been with Cake since Pro 3.0 (midi, not Pro Audio) If the structure is "tiered", I will buy the full package. Why you ask? Because I'm "invested", I tried 'em all when things went dark. (I could use Reaper, IF I have to.) I want Cake to succeed! I'm lucky, I get that, its only money, and right now.... Hell, I'll probably "buy" Next, and never install or use it. I know YMMV, just my nickel98. t -

Again, we are IBTL!!!! -
Yup! Hey, look on the bright side; we’re in before the lock! ? t

But don't forget, in Nashville the mantra is: Don't bore us, get to the chorus! ? t

John? John who? ? I always hold back a bit because some are prone to "running" with every "suggestion" they get; and end up chasing their tail all over hell's half acre. But, Barry is a "mature" songwriter, and he'll ignore me anyway; and that's fine. I'm a "three minute rocker". (get in and get out...) t

Power-3, but don't ask we why. I can't hear a difference, but my 71 year old ears are "knackered", so no one should follow the trail I'm blazin'... t -
Love the horns Barry, These are thoughts as the track is playing: shorten the intro (its 5:12 there's some fat) lose the "droning" horn in the right can in the second verse; its not supporting the vocal, its just distracting) With a little "judicious" editing we could get the "single" down to 3:15 ish?, I think... t I'll hold the like here and at SC for the final mix, as always great songwriting.

Open the existing project, delete all audio tracks in the project and do a "file save as" and create a new "path". Meaning a "fresh" folder that the project is saved in. This ASSUMES that under Preferences>Audio>Driver Settings>Default Settings for New Projects>Sampling Rate: 48000 is selected. IF you don't want to keep the existing audio tracks, delete the old project folder. You can "import" the existing tracks into the new project and CbB will upsample to 48k, if you want to keep them. There is a caveat here, make sure that the track length has not been edited, if it has CbB will "misplace" it in the new project. "Takes" only compound this problem; best practice for me has been to "bounce" the track, take note exactly where it "lies" M:B:T in the project. If it is Takes, then bounce each "take" to a new "track" and again note M:B:T. I did exactly this before posting and it all went fine; BUT it was a "simple" project, not one with a ton of VSTi; AND it showed 48-24 AFTER I closed the new project and reopened it. DO NOT work on it before you close it or you will be "trapped" at 44.1. HTH, t Hey, since @scook hasn't been around to "correct" me, please chime in folks if I have any of this wrong... -
Common practice for years! Given the speed and power of “modern” hardware it “shouldn’t” be necessary, but troubleshooting “issues” is a buzz killer for me. Tracking vocals and guitars, it just “makes sense”, for me. t

I work at 48-24, render at 32. Basically CbB’s default settings. I small “m” master the track in the original project. That final “bounce” is 48-32. That is the “master” (again, small “m” because I’m not a “mastering engineer”) I then export 3 files, all these are “dithered” 1) 48-24, this I call “high res” 2) 44.1-16 CD obviously 3) 44.1-16 mp3 and I use the 320 setting, this is the file I put up on my website. When I put the mp3 track on my iPhone it “crushes” it down to 240, right? anyway, that’s what works for me, YMMV t -
NO! I’m 48-24, render at 32. There was a time when “checking “ the 64 bit double precision could cause issues. But it’s “best practice”. For some reason I mistook your post to mean you were rendering at 24 bit. My guess is that in a “dense” mix it probably doesn’t matter. Let’s face it, the “good old tape days” were “noisy”, every pass degraded the signal… We live in the “golden” age, but just can’t see the forest for the trees. (trite, I know, but the truth nonetheless) Take care my friend, always a fan! t

Hey, I resemble that remark! and I bet you own, by a magnitude of order, far more than I do…. t

The Placebo effect is “real”!
-
@whoisp So you are recording at 24 AND bouncing at 24 as well? Evidently, from a technical stand point, this allows "errors" to "build up" and eventually "affects" the sound "quality". Well duh, everything we do is "meant" to affect/effect the sound; yea? If it sounds "right", it is "right"; print it! t
-
I should add that at least one user here on the forum is getting results that "blow away" his RME UCXII. (we are talking about the Zoom 32bit 232 here) It has resolved all the "issues" he was having, and I'm happy for him! But, for me?, I'll stick with 48/24... t
-
Yes. And since on Zoom's website it looked to me like there is no "user" way to control preamp gain, I surmise (as you did) that they are "burning in" some kind of automatic gain control in front of the ADC. I'll handle the compression/limiting and gain staging "Thank you very much!" t
-
In reviewing Zoom’s website, I get the impression that “dynamic range” is NOT the “advantage” offered by 32bit float. The advantage is you cannot digitally clip the signal. Well, that’s a good thing, but somebody correct me if I’m wrong here, the “engineer” has no control over the signal path, read that as the gain structure. I’ll pass. And @whoispif CbB is is setup Record 24, Render 32; every bounced track is 32 bit, so the notion that recording at 32 is a huge resource “hog”? - it’s no big deal… I’m a “hard” 48-24, but it’s “your” dime. (Read “your” as the royal y’all, if you get my meaning) t

Jack, I'm always impressed with your willingness to "bare your soul". Keep up the good work! The editing is a little "abrupt" on the beginning and end; technicalities... t

<rant> Begin? Its been going on for months now. "is New SONAR going to open my old projects, will I get New SONAR for free because Henry screwed me over," etcetera, etcetera, etcetera; ad nauseum. I apologize in advance, but please grow a set children; everything is going to be fine. And YES, you are going to have to PAY to keep development going; this is America and free enterprise ain't free... and here's the good news, you are in before the lock! </rant>

I got broad shoulders Sidney! They can pound all they want. What I want? I want to pay $199 for New SONAR, and I want whomever chooses to stay with CbB to have it work indefinitely; but "You can't always get what you want". Of course in the immortal words of The Tubes, since I am an American citizen, I am entitled to "a baby's arm holding an apple" so there's always that... t
