@Bill Crockett You have run as Administrator to enter the serial and register codes. You can easily get at your legacy account by asking Cakewalk support to help you. They can get at the server and update you log in. It’s well worth the bother.

It took me 20 years of using lame drums played by midi sound modules, sound fonts, TTS-1 and finally I had Session Drummer. I even sampled my real drums and used those. But when Sonar incudes AD2 with Professional I got 2 free kits. I then upgraded to Platinum and got 2 more as that was how it worked. Then I got some add ons with my Focusrite 6i6. Plus I grabbed the Electric piano. So far all free. I have all of the common drum VST’s as demos or lite versions and the only other one I like is Steven Slate. Ez drums and Air Strike I found the interface way over my head so never got into it. I often use SI Drums on my other computer and I created a very decent sound with that. Anyhow I have my AD2 kit and it still doesn’t sound like real drums to me but for backing tracks and my songs it gets the job done.

Me too. I still have the old versions in my download folder backup. I have a couple of extra computers I don’t really use for much that all have Cakewalk on them. So we’ll see what happens. What understand is the old versions used the old Bandlab server that they told us had been de commissioned for the new one. This was why we were told we had to update. Staff in another similar thread chimed in and said the splash screen was added back in September when the last release came out and it’s just showing up now.

Oh my censored twice in the same day! I guess the beast that was apparently part of ,, hold it a minute, I better not type that name either because some people use it as a curse word. I was just going to say there was an …. In the stall in Bethlehem where this important historical event took place, hmm, And it’s in the lyrics of a popular Christmas song about a drummer. It kept time along with an Ox. Is Ox a curse word? I guess I’ll find out once I post. This is fun, let’s see how many words are censored here. Testing 1-23 Poo Testing 1-23 Dang Testing 1-23 Snot

Ya it was weird. I’ve never posted anything that when I did it said it was subject to review by a Moderator. I was thinking it was possible copywriting because of the video. I was surprised that the title of a song was forbidden by the forum due to it being the name of a bad ***** hard drug. Thanks to our furry friend the moderator for the fix. As he said super simple - Takes 3 seconds. Use Ctrl A to select all then process/Transpose / set to -1 / check the audio box Make sure to have a complete back up of the project first. Normally a small amount like this will not trash things but digital audio can only do so much without artifacts happening to critical tracks like Vocals. My self if this has to happen I redo the vocals.

It always amazes me to here bloopers in popular songs. Possibly JJ Cale's version wasn't the hit that Eric's was, but every time I hear it I can't help but notice the Bass boners on the run down. Out of curiosity I looked up who this amazingly bad bass player was wondering how they got into a recording studio. Here I found my answer C****e was song #6 on the album. J. J. Cale – vocals, guitar, piano ( tr. 3 ), organ ( tr. 3 ), bass ( tr. 4, 6 ), slide guitar ( tr. 8 ), Electric Guitar, Soloist [First Solo] Charles Dungey – bass guitar on tracks 1, 9 Tommy Cogbill – bass guitar on tracks 2, 5, 8, 10-12 Joe Osborn – bass guitar on 3 Anyhow it's a classic example of why guitar players should not be allowed near a bass unless they have paid their dues actually playing the bass in a live band for a few years. @ 0: 28 is first signs that the bass player is unsure of what to play. 1:41, 2:00 Missing notes, ( edited out?) 1:54 another on the edge of trouble run. And the very noticeable train wreck at 2:20 where it's a good semi tone flat on not just one but 2 notes. Amazing that they never fixed this with all this re mastering etc. I could fix it in Cakewalks Next in a few minutes.

My favourite is Windows/ PrntScn. To take a screenshot of both monitors and it goes directly to a folder in Pictures. Then there’s a lot you can do to it with the Windows picture app. Before all this taking a screenshot and editing required a lot more moves and using various other apps. It’s like using printer/scanners now you just tell Windows to add it to the list and it works. No more installing a printer software and a bunch of useless bloatware.

Wallet Blues by Kluane Gross Jan 25 2024- https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14719703 My Grandson took up songwriting and is learning the acoustic guitar. His dad just past away a few weeks ago and we put this song together so he could play it for him as he was slipping away from us. Not exactly what you might think as appropriate, but if you knew his Dad Jason you would get it. A guy who's favorite Christmas song was Grandma Got run over by a Reindeer. Well they played lots of his favorite music that day, The Band, Allmand Brothers and the Dead. Jason was a musician himself and was a walking encyclopedia of all things connected to those bands. He only liked Country if it used a Les Paul and was corny. So Kluane had no idea yet about putting chords to a song and I just came up with the progression and we had something that worked within a half hour. I wanted the chords to be easy for him to play. So it's in C. The next day I came up with the Band in a Box idea to see what I could come up with for the style and groove. I also thought it would be a good tool for him to use is he progresses. He picked this one and I quickly figured out how to enter the chords and create an arrangement. Of course it sort of sucked so I exported as a midi file into Cakewalk and proceeded to obliterate all but the drums and there was a guitar chord track assigned to the Lounge Lizard with the Phaser turned on. But the style he picked didn't have a Pedal Steel which this song was crying out for. SO I simple went back and changed the style to one that had the pedal steel and actually learned I could drag and drop it from BiaB directly to Cakewalk. I edited the bad chords in Melodyne, thank goodness I just upgraded to the full version which does chords. I redid the bass with a real bass that I converted to midi and the Ample bass, I added a piano and then a acoustic guitar and the Tele lead. I haven't polished the vocals at all yet so I apologize for the performance and lack of clarity of the lyrics. We had 1 day to get it posted. Here's a screen shot of the console. As I did this I was thinking it would be cool if everyone shared this shot when posting a song. I might even help troubleshoot issues with mixes.

I keep hearing the instrumental in the audio

But now a minimum size for OS drive is 1TB so all this is not worth worrying about really. Have get over our W7 workflows. I have just built a new computer back in November and have installed a ton of software and plug ins. It’s sitting at 10% and because nothing much is stored there as time goes on I doubt it will ever exceed 30% in its 3 year lifespan. Yes I will replace it then. It will become a data drive.

You don’t actually need to use envelopes there’s alternatives. I can think of a few. Only thing to be aware of is automation is none destructive editing but the following is not. But we are working at 32 bit floating point so myself I don’t worry about degrading the audio. Normalize each section of the song. Example figure out what the difference in level is between each of these parts. You can use the Gain knob to figure it out. Say it’s Intro -8db Verse -12db Chorus -10 db Solo-8db. Now divide each guitar track using Split into those sections and use Process Normalize to set each section at that level. A none destructive method is using Clip Gain. I think you might have less trouble seeing that. You do the same dividing of the tracks but use clip gain to lower the volume of sections leaving the solos the loudest. Only drawback is the sudden change in levels between parts which is were your method is actually better because you can use clip fade in and out. There’s nothing really wrong with what you are doing but I would definitely use buses to eliminate the need for duplicate effects on each track That’s one of the main purposes of buses.

The lanes should be visible in the Bus Pane same as track pane. The Bus pane is hidden by default and you open it with Shift B or drag into view.

@treesha Earlier on in this thread I claimed there was nothing in my folder but that was actually the one in Program Files. The Document location had 340 MB in it. Sorry about the confusion

At the top of this forum you’ll find Cakewalk support. They are very good about helping with legacy products even though it really has nothing to do with the current company.

Interesting The op returns last Saturday and seems to not have comment here or in the other post they abandoned?? I find it weird behaviour to post on user forums and not stay involved in your own threads. At least leave a Like or Thank you. Edit: Feb 13. Note the OP has returned to the forum a few times including since I posted this.

Interesting the OP posted in the song forum about this same date and never replied there either. Must either forgot they posted this or are just indifferent to our replies. They visited the forum last Saturday? I guess we can go check out their song and see if it’s clipping ?

Sure, this is what I’ve been using for almost 30 years. I’m on my second one. The original a P200 from 1987 still works but didn’t have USB and a few features I wanted. https://www.roland.com/nz/products/a-49/ Roland A49. I bought it because Roland stuff lasts forever and if you get a bad key they have replacements. I think only Roland, Korg and Yamaha have replacement parts. I know Akai doesn’t because my 3 year old Synthstation is a door stop now. And most importantly it feels good under the fingers. It feels professional not like a cheap kids keyboard. Bus powered or adapter. USB and 5 pin midi. Small and light. Change octave or pitch in seconds. Can control any midi parameters. 2 controller knobs and a weird eyeball gizmo called the beam. I also prefer the joy stick over mod wheels. If all you’re doing is playing parts into Cakewalk it’s perfect. For live it would have been nice to have more control knobs for midi.

is this an advice that new Sonar is coming ?
John Vere replied to EnglandBross's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Look at it this way. Since they announced it last June you realized the free ride was going to end. So you can start saving up for the day you might have to fork over a couple hundred bucks for Sonar. If you had put a dollar each day in a piggy bank you should have almost $250 in there by now. By the time Sonar is actually released you might have enough for the deluxe version and change left over for a Melodyne upgrade! -
Yep yesterday afternoon very weird I couldn’t open this forum or my HotMail. I could open Gmail and lots of other stuff. I rebooted computer and it worked. Who knows why but always a good trick. My Motu interface used to act up occasionally and I had to reboot whole system. So far it’s behaving on my new W11 machine. Computer/ Drivers/ OS , sometimes they play nice together sometimes they don’t get along.

Guitar sims are normally 100% wet so put in the effects bin. I wouldn’t think sharing a amp sim with more than 2 guitars would sound good. You most certainly don’t use real amps that way. A standard set up is to create a sub bus for each class of instruments Bass, Drums, keyboards, Guitars, Vocals and then a reverb and delay bus. These all go to the Master. The reverb and delay can be shared by all the tracks or buses. This is a better way to use them to reduce mud in the mix. The tracks get assigned to each sub bus which makes mixing more organized. I sometimes have a Rhythm guitar and lead guitar bus. They get processed differently. Instead of tossing a zillion effects at every track see if that is actually needed? And do 12 guitar tracks make it to the listener? Probably only 2 or 3 are actually needed. Your system specs should handle a lot. You should be able to work at 256 or 512 buffer on 20 track projects with reasonable amount of plug ins. But even 1 thing like Izotope stuff on the master bus can kill your computer. So be choosy about plug ins
