  1. Thanks for a brilliant update!

The new "Delete all" effects option is very useful, but I find it very unfortunate UX design and counter-intuitive that it's the new top option in the FX bin.

What is the most common reason a user right clicks in an FX bin? The answer to that rhetorical question is arguably: to add an effect. Hence ought "Insert audio effect" be reinstated to its previous top position.

Update: There is a dedicated thread about this very subject.

Suggested new UX design for FX bin right click:

Probably the most common use case is when using CTRL+D.  As this places the duplicate clip immediately after the current one, this is invariably in the wrong place unless the clip ends on a measure boundary.

Exactly... And when on that topic, could any tweaks be made to Duplicate Clip, to make it a little "smarter" about alignment? Half the time I have to nudge my duplicated stuff back by a whole measure. 🙂

A few people had certain projects taking long to load with certain plugins, so we investigated it and found that some plugins can flood the message queue with data when loading.  Since Cakewalk was waiting for all activity to finish at load time, this caused the delay.

I've now also further improved load time on systems with no internet or poor internet speeds. The app should load immediately in such cases in the next build.

    Interesting, thanks for the info!

Are there any specific things EA users should keep an eye out, with regards to this fix? Any risks of plugins loading incomplete settings or failure to load? Note, I'm not questioning anything, just showing my incompetence (and gratitude!). 😂

Yes, this should work correctly. I just did a quick sanity check. If I float the Synth Rack, then save and close the project, the Synth Rack is floating when I open the project again. Let us know if you still have any problems there.

NICE! It's the small things that increase convenience, thank you. :)

Will test it in the next release!

  5. Impressive work in this thread, great job @Helene Kolpakova! :)

Re issue #2 reported above by @Helene Kolpakova, we're currently testing fixes for that and some related issues (see below). All being well, they should be included in the next release too.

Browser/Synth Rack/Help Module docking fixes currently being tested:
    1. Browser would sometimes open as expanded even if it was collapsed when the project was saved.
    2. Help Module or Synth Rack were docked at the top (above Browser) even if they were below it when the project was saved.
    3. Browser docking layout wasn't restored correctly on project load if the Browser was collapsed. This resulted in odd layout appearance and/or incorrect Browser/Synth Rack/Help Module order.

I'm sorry if I don't understand the obvious from the above - but will the Synth Rack state now be remembered if it is floating? :) I always have to re-float it...

@GreenLight can you please retest with the new EZ build. There is a setting for sending all notes off if needed.

Wow, cool that you made it an option, thanks!

Though I worked several hours with the original 2022.09 today without any issues... :) I will continue testing tomorrow.

@GreenLight are you only getting stuck notes with notes played from the keyboard or is it also playback of notes from the track that are sticking.
Is it simple track and keyboard controller playback or are you also using generative effects/synths etc.
Are you sure that this is specific to the 09 release? i.e. if you roll back do you still see this?

Hm, I think it happened both when playing on the keyboard, a NI Komplete Kontrol S49 MK1 via USB MIDI, as well as when performing transport stops. But I'm not 100% on that...

I've only had one session with 09 so far, so I will report back later this week after some more sessions. If I continue to get stuck notes, I'll do a rollback to 06 and see if it helps.

I'm thankful for your diligence. I should have done a few more session before reporting to you guys, I don't want to cause you unnecessary work with too vague descriptions. 😬 I just wanted to see if I was alone or not... 😀

Are you sure your hung notes aren't completely down to sustain pedal messages?

If "Zero Controllers When Play Stops" is unchecked, then any sustain pedal messages that are "down" when you stop playback will remain down, which will cause notes to continue sustaining.

With this enabled, if you're using one of those Kontakt instruments that uses Modulation (CC #1) for volume, you might want to add a CC #1, 127 event at the beginning of the clips that are using those instruments.

It did happen with no sustain pedal in use when I played synth parts with Diva as well.

I will continue producing and report back, while also keeping in mind what you wrote above. Thanks!

    Which VSTs?

I think it was with u-He Diva, a Kontakt 6 piano library and... a third one I can't remember. It happened a handful of times during maybe 2-3 hours, and I reacted as it usually doesn't happen that often.

If it happens again, I will pay closer attention and report back.

  10. >The MIDI All Notes Off message is no longer sent to VST plugins on transport stop. Since Cakewalk manages all MIDI note on's explicitly, >sending note off messages for just those notes, the All Notes Off message is no longer required.

I updated to 2021.09 yesterday, and first of all - thanks for the bugfixes! 😀

After the update, in just a few hours I've been getting more hanging notes than usual with several of my VSTi:s... it feels like it ought to be directly related to the removed MIDI All Notes Off message?

An idea – if permitted in this thread – would be to make an option under Preferences / Project / MIDI / like "Send MIDI All Notes Off message on transport stop". So that it could be user-enabled in circumstances that require it?

EDIT: Even sustain pedal messages seem to be hanging... (Happened once so far.) Am I the only one experiencing this?

It is indeed confusing, when I don't think it needs to be.

I'd always thought that the grouping of commands by view was just to make them easier to find in the list, I had no idea that it meant that the same key combos could do different things depending on which view. I have a shortcut that shows Track Manager, and I never could figure out why it didn't work for the Track Manager in Console.

    Very well put!

I thought about that as well – using the same shortcuts for different actions in different views – and how that could be really nice in some scenarios.

For some time I've been using NUMPAD + and - for zoom in/out in Track View, which btw has been a great workflow enhancer for me. And then I thought it would be cool to use the same combo for zoom in/out in PRV as well... but maybe it's a bad example, since it has been very convenient to be able to zoom in/out in Track View even when working and having focus in PRV. :)

I have had this issue in the past and spend hours with the bakers trying to fix this in the PM section.

I've manage to fix it myself, but i'm trying to remember now how - to you help here. 😑 It's literally just a setting. 😐

Check if your "Apply workspace to project" is ticked, right at the bottom of teh workspace dropdown menu.

I'm trying to think now. 😣

In Preferences > keyboard shortcut TAB -- make sure "Save Changes For Next Project/Session" is ticked.

I have now checked how my Cakewalk is configured: "Save Changes for Next Session" is checked under Preferences/Keyboard shortcuts. I don't think it's ever been unchecked.

Workspaces are configured as seen below. Are you saying I should enable "Apply Workspace on Project Load" even though I'm not using workspaces? 🤔

(Crossposted in the Deals subforum because there's not 100% overlap in readers)

@scook (who else?) has unearthed a file that I've been searching for for literally years: The Alesion Arps . He's been kind enough to host it for download by the Cakewalk user community. The link is to the top level of Steve's page, because it has a bunch of other stuff that Cakewalk users should know about. It's the first link on the page.

Thanks a lot for this, Superrabbit 🐇, very interesting. I have downloaded and installed them and will definitely try them for my next melodic techno track.

The page on the B Rock website was very ambitious in its explanation of these. In summary, there are 32 different arp patterns and each of  those is also available in 15 different variations, truncated to shorter lengths to make it very easy to achieve polyrhythms when layering them on top of each other or other sequences. Cool!

It makes me think of the arp in U-He's Diva synth. It has a Restart parameter which lets you do the same thing, i.e. it allow you to restart the arp sequence earlier. Very useful for more organic patterns!

    +1

my keybindings dissapear every now and then`also. I suspect that changing the Cakewalk Version could be the reason perhaps?

I export my bindings often, to revert if i have to.

Thanks for chiming in, Peter, interesting to know there's more with the same problem.

The assignment for the current area is always shown on the right, whereas the current assignment for the Global area is always shown underneath and on the left.

What you're seeing for CTRL + R, is your "Track View" assignment on the right ( i.e. Rename Clip ), and the Global Area assignment underneath and on the left.   For CTRL + J, you're seeing the description for your "Track View" assignment to Bounce to Clip(s) on the right,  and it shows that it's unassigned in the Global area on the left.

It would be fantastic if the "Global" aspect/concept you describe could be indicated more clearly in the Preferences GUI. It is a bit confusing the way it's currently displayed. 🥴

Will (pun not intended) check it out. 😁 (Note though that I'm not using workspaces nor screensets.)
