There is something wrong with my setting or installation. I installed Sonar 8 Producer on another PC (x64) and then upgraded to CbB. V-vocal works on this new PC on both an old song with V-Vocal and new clips (for comparison.) On the problem PC you can see it flash a clip that says V-Vocal but it disappears. It's no where I can find. Not in a lane, not behind the original clip, no where. I am not sure where to start at this point - setting, conflicting plugin? Weird.

Vocal Sync (VSync) seems to work correctly. At least I get the render window and it seems to do something. I did find this in the manual but I don't think a new clip falls in this area: Region FX clip restrictions The following editing functions are disabled for Region FX clips: Clip automation. Copy/paste for a time selection that contains a Region FX. Split clip. Slip-stretch clip when the Follow Host Tempo option is enabled. Groove Clip looping. AudioSnap.

I'm trying to make sense of the functionality of V-Vocal in CbB. Initially I thought it wasn't supported since it wasn't where I expected but someone pointed out that it's moved to Region FX in the Track view. Yep, there it is I read the V-Vocal info in the CbB documentation (not Sonar; the CbB doc) and it clearly shows how to create a V-Vocal region and then open the editor. Nowhere does it say V-Vocal doesn't work or is limited. Every step is there. So, I loaded a song created in Sonar 8.0 into CbB. 1. The first issue is that clicking on the V-Vocal doesn't open the editor like it did in Sonar 8.0. Right clicking and selecting Region FX doesn't show the Editor highlighted. 2. Highlighting a small section of vocals and then right clicking on the clip, opening the Region FX shows Create Region FX available. I click it. It creates a region in a new lane below it, but it's not marked V-Vocal. Right clicking on that or the original and going to Region FX never shows the Editor as available. 3. Repeating the above but using Vocal Sync or Melodyne, does create a clip marked Vocal Sync or Melodyne and the Editor is available.) I have read the CbB docs enough to be exhausted trying to figure out what I am doing wrong. V-Vocal just won't create a clip that will invoke the editor like in Sonar. What could I be doing wrong? I've created new short clips, copied clips to a new file and it just doesn't work. The example in the doc is clearly CbB and not just something left over from the Sonar doc. Maybe I have to buy V-Vocal like Melodyne? More info: It appears installing CbB might have disabled V-Vocal in Sonar. I was using a second PC without CbB to compare. When I run Sonar 8.0 on the CbB PC, I can't get the region to create or invoke the editor there either.

Yeah, there are a lot of subtle changes they made (and some not so obvious) that has really raised CW up!

LOL! You posted this just as I was editing my earlier mini-rant. I found it, but not where I expected. As for Pentagon. I've tried the admin changes and as I said it just loads it and then blows up. I compared the registry content and it matches what people said needs to be there. I will keep playing with it though. I missed the permissions for Pentagon. Interestingly that works but now I get a blank window for the synth. I will play with it more. Thanks for replying!

Edit: I said V-Vocal wasn't in CbB. Looking, looking, looking, tab after tab, I found it in the Region FX in the wave right-click window. For some reason I thought it was a VST. NICE! My install started with Sonar 8.0 Pro before installing CbB so I too assume it came through there. I need to pay closer attention ....

I refuse to admit I asked the same question after claiming I tried everything. And when I got the answer I couldn't believe I missed it. I've freaking used it to reduce the number of items in the track folders in the past. Nope, I never did that. I will say that Bandlab cleaned up a number of item descriptions and locations so the GUI makes a lot more sense.

Go to Settings/Update and Security/Backup. Under "Looking for an older backup?" is Go to Backup and Restore (Windows 7). Click on that. On the left is "Create a system image." It will look for drives large enough for the backup. I use "On a hard disk" and point it to my second drive D. Click next and you will be taken to 'Confirm your back up settings." If you are fine with the destination, click Start Backup at the bottom. If a prior backup exists on that drive it will overwrite it. It "appears" to make an image of the used space on C, not necessary the whole drive including unused space. Finally, Windows doesn't appear to allow the image to be copied to another drive. I need to check. What I haven't tried is to make the image on a blank drive or SD card and then try copying my midi backup folders to that drive. That might work.

I have all of my CW master files (Sonar masters, Bandlab/CW), installers and misc music files on a second drive. CW and all plug-ins and accessories are installed on the main OS drive C:. Cakewalk runs from C-drive but all working files are on D. I do a Windows backup image to the second drive daily. Then I do a daily backup of the second drive to a third drive (usually a 128MB SD card or my external drive.) That third drive is my fail-safe. If things go bad, either the second drive or my third "backup" drive has everything. I can restore the image and working files from either and get going again. If the second drive dies or is trashed, I can restore from the third drive. All three aren't going to die at one time. As a last resort I can reinstall Windows 10, CW and all plugins. Once the first image backup is done, it takes less than 15 minutes to update the image on the second drive and then backup everything to the third drive.

I figured it out. After lots of clicking and button pressing, you have to teach (assign) a button or controller via the midi symbol on the VST window. You can assign a controller to everything there.

I've search and haven't found anything on this. I am looking for what controller is used for the Leslie speed on the Arturia B3 VST. The Arturia documentation doesn't mention any of the controllers. I've stepped through as many as I can and while I can control a lot of things, the speed eludes me. I used to use the Organized Trio VST and figured out the controller for it's Leslie but I haven't gotten a re-installation to work so I am trying the Arturia version. I do know I can't used automation to control it on either. Anyone know?

Add a white background theme. The dark background is too difficult to read. Something similar to Cakewalk for Windows. I have been playing with the theme editor but I am a long way away from having something totally done. No doubt it's covers most objects. It's like a theme with all of the colors inverted would do it. IMHO.

Well, at least I know what "insufficient processor power" sounds like.

I loaded this up. It's certainly an improvement over the black on black/gray Cakewalk seems to be enamored with. I wish they offered something similar to the Cakewalk for Windows white theme. It's far better for a lit room. Even in a dark room you can turn down the monitor brightness. But at with this I can see more of how to edit in the theme editor although I don't think I can get to the white theme with the existing tools. But I really like this over the stock themes! Thanks!

It was white everything with black or colored text/graphics. Very readable. I suspect the developers are using super bright monitors where the gray looks nearly white. Now if I was working in a dark room, I might prefer a darker theme so I don't get a sunburn but I work in a well lit studio. I'll check this out. Thanks! If Sonar 8 had something light I never found it. Maybe I missed it.

Yeah, I don't dispute that dust can cause issues on high speed traces with no coating but this was definitely heat related. Laptops are especially prone.

Have you check what the Scale and Layout under Display does? I got tired of the small fonts and raised it to 125%. It helped a lot. However it does affect other programs too. Now if I could only get rid of these dark themes. I prefer white with dark text.

When I add a send to an instrument, it shows up in the instrument but after I change tracks and go back it's gone. It's in the inspector which is fine but I'd like to see it in the instrument track. I've checked setting and don't see on option. It's me isn't it!

This might help someone fighting static and noise in audio. This is on my HP 8560p Elitebook laptop with i5/16GB ram/dual SSD drives. I've been fighting a situation where Cakewalk with audio tracks (several) would start off fine (noise free) but slowly start giving static/scratching noises during recording and playback. I might get 30 minutes before it started. I messed with just about everything possible. If you suggest something, I already tried it. I was sitting here and noticed the fan was running at full speed. I loaded a CPU temperature app and the temps were very high. Hmmm. I pulled the bottom cover off and the processor heat-sink and air channels were full of dust. Some compressed air later and the fan is either off or at slow speed all the time and the static/scratching is gone. I've gone 8 hours with no noise. I believe the processor was slowing down from the heat or in technical terms "going goofy." I know this might not be a typical problem for people but it's something to rule out if you are fighting the noise. And anyone that knows of a theme that matches or is similar to the original Cakewalk for Windows from the Twelve Tone era I'd love to try it. I don't like the dark themes. AWATS
