  1. Since we were talking about this in the Coffee House... Hawkwind - Moonglum
  2. Bob -> Robert Robert Calvert - Lay of the Surfers
  3. I assume essentially an audio out (USB -> audio) converter (think USB headphones).
  4. Why not try whatever is in the current "busy" USB port in the other one? If that works, I'd assume an audio interface would too.
  5. I ended up working with their keyboard player's daughter a few years back but never got to see them (the one chance I had years ago when a friend played sax with them for one gig, I ended up falling asleep after our own set :-)). And now neither Nik nor the keyboard player are with us now any more of course.
  6. Mine was a 2*12 combo - I picked it up second hand cheap because my old amp got stolen, and I needed something fast. It was built like a tank. Sadly, it also sounded like one.
  7. It segues into another song (Elric the Enchanter Part II) on the album. Thanks to everyone for the input: I have the software tools to play with the delay (tri-chorus is one, although I know the Space Echo was in use at that time) and RAT. Then play with the amp - I think speakers will make a huge difference too.
  8. You have better eyesight than me!
  9. It is Huw, yep. I'd looked there actually only a few days ago, so I think it might be a Peavey amp, but not sure which (I had one by chance once a long time ago and it sucked no matter what sound you wanted from it :-)).
  10. I *think* it was a Roland SpaceEcho for the chorus and delay. It's a Les Paul Custom I think (possibly this one ). It's the distortion/amp I can't get anything like - maybe it's the chorus that makes it so unusual?
  11. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be very appreciative. I've been trying for years to get a sound approaching that of the guitar in the video below - I know what's played, but the guitar sound is so unique.
  12. Nik Turner's Fantastic All Stars - So What
  13. Drag story hour please...get your facts right :-)
  14. Or make sure your VST paths don't include folders that don't contain VSTs, like \Windows.
  15. Me too. I loved SF when it came out and used it extensively 15 years ago to do a load of voice editing work for audio books. I hardly fire it up now (except for CD ripping, pretty much) as I'm able to do pretty much everything I need with the tools directly available in CbB. They missed a trick not making it ARA compatible IMHO.
  16. I've got two stories like this... - Way back around the days of Cakewalk Pro Audio 6 or 7 (!), I was swearing at it for ages and ranting on the newsgroups about it. Turns out I had a dodgy SCSI cable (remember them?) which was connected to the audio data drive, so no surprise the one application that hit that drive hard had problems. Egg on face and many apologies (to the Bakers) ensued. - The house I moved into 10 years ago always had issues with the phones, especially when trying to use the line for ADSL. My dad - ex-telephone engineer - took a look and discovered that the wiring had been done in a ring, not a star, topology so it was amazing it ever worked. He also looked at the aerial connection, and a junction box (splitter) had been put into the circuit. Backwards. So the impedance was all over the place. And as for the (internal brick) wall that a metal/wire checker detects as filled with *something* almost everywhere so that we can't hammer a nail in safely... Turns out the previous owner's brother-in-law was a bit of a dab hand at rewiring. Allegedly. We did wonder why the owners had said they'd had to get a separate 'phone line installed for their home office as the home internet wasn't reliable enough. Maybe they shouldn't have gone to the brother-in-law to sort it out in the first place!
