one thing I have noticed BA is updated usually before a new Cakewalk update or new EA is pushed EDIT: Larry beat me... but I'm OK
-
"In fact, JST (a pretty big player in the scene now, especially among rock/metal engineers and musicians) has flat out recently told me to switch DAWs (not just for troubleshooting purposes, but permanently) and that they don't recommend Cakewalk." I was planning on buying their Bus Glue-Bass plugin, but this is all giving me a huge warning about support and possible issues re compatibility with Cakewalk.

Great to hear about resizing, thanks for that Peter! Couldn't find any info about the updated 'routing freedom' in CS, unless it's the same as 'drag & drop chain' - please could you confirm it's in the CS version as well? Paying for re-measured cabs is perfectly understandable. And sorry to hear about the flood damage, beside AT Metal what else did not get re-measured? edit: preset filtering - another sweet move! -
yeah I mean playing it two hand on piano is extreeemly challenging.. third hand would be handy for incessant wiping sweat off your eyes
-
Yes that's my observation too and I would add Waves shell files to it cause they take a substantial amount of time when scanning but I didn't figure out yet which folders exactly to exclude plus they may change them after updating from V11 to V12.

Idk, I see it different, a bit. I would prefer that for a simple one-sample use, think of 808s, they would create a new very simple sampler based functionality that's baked-in flat into Cakewalk as if it was another piano roll, loop construction view, etc. Not resources hungry, not crashy, Cubase does it perfectly and it seems very simple and it looks like Cakewalk already has most of the code for that. For all the other, more advanced jobs, let them work on Rapture/DimPro or let us use 3rd party sampler.

only that when TR5 came out, going from Tracks4 CS to TR5 CS, it wasn't! the features were locked up can't comment on Sampletank, was never using it previously but quite possible it was a whole different story... there's a hope? -

Personally, I would more expect that any new technology brought up in the new version, like VIR, would be paid. Someone is spending much of his time and effort to achieve it and create new gear of higher quality, there's no big reason for giving it away as an update (although some developers can afford to do it). So for us customers, something like VIR and the new gear would be the core benefit when upgrading, and it's understandable if we have to pay for it. Giving it for free would be a bit too altruistic . On the other hand if there are new/updated functions that everyone simply expects them to be there in the new version in nearly 2021, the new GUI, resizing, new routing possibilities, and since they are backed in into software already, I would expect them to be unlocked in the free CS version. That's an update, to me it's more like improving some old shortcomings of the software rather than adding something new to the table. These features are already there in the software so why locking them up, it's a very distinctive, peculiar move. Edit: this is my subjective point of view of course ... and I still like my IK plugins. Edit2: obviously I would prefer to have the sound upgraded in new CS version in the first place rather than GUI/routings just don't expect it happen -
Based on demos it does sound good. Wondering how is it different from my Korg Odyssey vsti?

There is this new AT5 CS announced, so probably new GUI is to be expected but probably no resizing etc. I remember how it was with Tracks 4 CS > TR5 CS, there was new GUI but nothing more beside it which was really pointless for me because Tracks 4 was 0,5 GB of weight and TR5 is above 1,5 GB so I simply kept the former. Once they add AT5 CS in my account I hope the new updated routing will be available, if not there's probably nothing compelling for me to install it. New glossy GUI vs additional GB of size is not gonna make me update. -
I get "Sorry there was an error processing your request" and I end up in infinite subscribing loop.

I believe CS will unlock everything you own already. But we'll be screwed in another way, idk maybe no resizing (like it was with Tracks 4 > TR5), no higher quality audio or maybe no updated routings. Something must be left aside to make us want to pay for the update. I'm too staying with CS for now... And I'm OK. -

Is Cakewalk the best free DAW on the market
chris.r replied to dappa1's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Part of fault is on Windows as an OS, as they have been ignoring developing a stable audio engine for so many years, even today if I want have to use WASABI mode, I get different latency output in preferences every time I launch Cakewalk. -

yep, this plus: Improved chains with custom routing options makes it even more interesting also for non-guitar applications
