Or alternatively, people could learn to be a little less sensitive and thin skinned. 99% of all the help & advice given out is in good faith from people offering up their own time to be helpful.

No.  I don't buy that.  People don't come to this forum to be intimidated in the form of "help".  If Mr. Dickson (or anybody else here) can't give help without an attitude and degrading people they should refrain from offering their "help".  It's not seen as being helpful.  It's seen as INTIMIDATING!

I'm more than happy to point people to  resources where they can find the answers they need. That is what real help is rather than spoon feeding them. Teaching how to catch fish rather than just handing them out.

You can't help people who won't be helped. This is at least the third thread from the OP on the exact same self-imposed "issue." Much extremely helpful advice has been given and apparently ignored.

He's been pointed to John Vere and Creative Sauce's extremely clear and concise tutorials by more than one person. Including me. Both explain things so well and so clearly that even my technophobe wife who hates computers and has nowhere near the software experience this guy claims caught on immediately. If you can't get it between the two of those guys then there really doesn't seem to be much hope...

It's not so much what you say but how you say it.  You can be helpful without the attitude.  Try it.  People will feel better about you.

  3. Hey, @Byron Dickens.  Don't you ever have anything nice to say to people?  Practically everything you say to people you're putting them down somehow.  You're very disrespectful.  If you can't say anything pleasant please don't say anything at all!

And I'm sure I'm not the only one here who feels that way!

  4. Back in 2013 I made the huge mistake of joining the Propellerhead Reason forum.  I'm still paying for it to this day.  They required my email address and then got hacked.  They since closed the forum down but my email address wound up on the dark web (according to my ID Sheild) and I  continue to get about 30 to 50 pieces of spam every single day.  I 'd love to change my email address but I pay most if my bills automatically on line through this email account.  Yes, there is no reason why a music forum would need your email address

    Emvoice is crazy.

The only thing I don't like is "Internet connection required for use".  Requiring a internet connection is going to be a huge deciding factor for me.  It would mean I would have to build a machine that would be able to stay on the internet for that process?  I could build a Linux box and use Reaper to link to Reaper, then that way I could use process like that way.  I don't wish them to have 24/7 access to my music station.

Even thought I have Sonar Producer and really enjoy Cakewalk, Reaper has been my go to for projects requiring remote systems.  I don't think Cakewalk can link to other Cakewalk systems and share processing power.

    Edit:

There other problem with this plugin requiring online access is if the company goes belly up.  Now your stuck with a useless plugin!

    Edit 2:

If this is the best thing for now, it maybe worth the risk verse the company just going belly up.

    Edit 3:

So, basically in thier terms of service, you really can't write any songs... LoL!  Just for the one word "tortious" mentioned in the terms of service!

    From their terms of service:

"Neither Emvoice nor Users shall share any Emvoice generated Content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, tortious, defamatory, libelous, vulgar, prejudicial, profane, invasive of another’s privacy, or hateful. Pattern violations will result in termination of service."

So, I guess your creation use limited to children friendly content using this product, else they'll terminate your software (which they can) because of the terms of service and they'll keep track of what you use it to sing.

No "making explicit and offensive reference to ***** or bodily functions; coarse and rude." = Vulgar

Don't make songs that "wrongly accuses someone of something" = libelous

You can't write religious songs "relating or devoted to that which is not sacred or biblical; secular rather than religious." = Profane

Any songs that you can be sued for in civil court (which in America can be anything) "tortious behavior is any behavior (other than breach of contract) that may be sued upon as a civil wrong." = tortious

Don't make any songs that can harm someone?  Anyone can get harmed by any song even if you don't speak any names. "harmful to someone or something; detrimental." = prejudicial

    Edit 4:

Here's a breakdown of the meaning of each word or phrase:

    1. Unlawful: Refers to content that violates the law or legal regulations.

    2. Harmful: Content that causes harm, damage, or injury to others.

    3. Threatening: Content that conveys a serious intention to harm, intimidate, or cause fear.

    4. Abusive: Content that involves the use of offensive language, insults, or mistreatment towards others.

    5. Tortious: Refers to conduct that gives rise to a civil wrong or a violation of someone's legal rights.

    6. Defamatory: Content that contains false statements about someone that harm their reputation.

    7. Libelous: Similar to defamation, it refers specifically to written or published false statements that harm someone's reputation.

    8. Vulgar: Content that is crude, indecent, or offensive in language or behavior.

    9. Prejudicial: Content that unfairly or negatively affects someone's rights, reputation, or opportunities.

    10. Profane: Content that is disrespectful or blasphemous, often involving offensive language or actions.

    11. Invasive of another's privacy: Content that intrudes upon or violates someone's right to privacy.

    12. Hateful: Content that expresses intense hostility, animosity, or discrimination towards a person or group based on characteristics such as race, religion, gender, etc.

These terms outline the types of content that are prohibited by Emvoice, and violation of these terms can result in the termination of service.

So, in the end, they have total control over what you can write a song about using thier service.

Don't bother with Emvoice.  I have it and used it for 2 projects.  Nobody listened to them.  Still too robotic.

I wouldn't sweat it John, my beaten up old i7 laptop only has four cores, although it still just about limps along thanks to 32Gb of RAM and a couple of SSDs.

I'll be be darned if I'm going to replace it until Win 10 goes out of support (the CPU isn't on infamous Microshaft yes list).

It runs S1 Pro 5 well enough, so I can always switch to that, but I expect it to be able to run new Sonar.

We'll see, not one worth getting bent out of shape for in my view but I can understand your concern.

Noel should know.  If he says it will work I'm optimistic.

My bet is quite a few years.

My bet is as long as your current computer works.  Why would they continue to offer a program that offers everything for free?  There would be no incentive to lay your money down, unless there was something better behind the $$$$$$.

Anyway, I don't want this to become another thread about the future of Cakewalk.  I'm only hoping things will be finalized soon so we'll all know the story.

Heck you will still be able to use your CbB :D

Yes, but for how long after the change is made?

I do intend to move to something new in the future.  Maybe Cakewalk, maybe not.  I DO have Reason 12 which I upgraded from 7 last year but it doesn't have Auto Punch in/Out so I rarely use that.  Had I known it didn't have that very important feature I would not have upgraded.  But too late for that now.

Someone from the Cakewalk staff and I believe a Beta tester said that their older processor was running just fine. I wouldn't worry to much about it.

    Found this from Noel

Thanks @InstrEd.  I also read somewhere on that thread that they will offer a short trial period so I will be able to see how it really works for me before I lay my non refundable money down.  I've been checking out FL Studio 20 and Prosonus Studio One for possible alternatives.  I'm really hoping Cakewalk will work for me (price and performance wise) because I really don't want another learning curve.  It took me 9 years to learn what I know so far about Cakewalk and I still don't know everything but I know enough to do what I do with it.

  11. I just looked at the tech requirements for the upcoming Cakewalk Sonar (& Next).  They both require  (or suggest) an 8 Core CPU.  My sig below tells of my current system as an i5 11400 2.60@ GHz 2.59GHz. (Windows 10). I recently doubled my RAM from 16 gigs to 32.  I'm not overly versed on these variables but is this telling me that I have sufficient computing power to run Cakewalk Sonar (the new one) or not?

If not, I may be forced to change DAWs whether I want to or not.  My PC is only 2 years old and I will not buy a new one.

    Thanks

Kind of reminds me of Selling England By The Pound-Genesis.  Good work, John. Yeah! The piano sounds real good. If you have Dimension Pro there is a really nice flute in the library called "Flute in the venue". I used it in a lot of my tunes. May work well in this one. Also check out the saxes in the library.  Overall, very good composition and performance.

    @FreeEarCandyThanks for listening, FEC!

Thanks John, I am sorry that I am not having the time to listen to all as much as I would like.

Perhaps it will resolve soon, there is just so much c r a p to deal with when one has to jump through the hoops of bureaucracy involved in ensuring another person, who is no longer capable, is being treated fairly, that financial maters are safe and not subject to any exploitation.

There is a little something else baking but it has been a little to warm in the studio for much time, my lovely dog is still getting used to being left alone even though she could lay safely in the studio with me. She lays just outside the door.

I know what you mean.  I'm going through some financial trials myself right now.  Takes the fun out of life sometimes.  Hopefully will be settled soon.

Is there a good reason to use retailers these days, just bring up MRSP quite a bit, and limit how they can sell not to make retailers mad?

I am concerned Cakewalk succeed on it's own merits.

Roland did not think it was a good enough business, and Gibson neither.

I'm just stumped over some reactions on internet over this new Sonar as paid version. People has countless gear listed in their signature - but NO THE DAW MUST BE FREE!

    - what other free daws are there to swap to?

Strange priorities some have IMO. Disrespectful even....

I remember some poll at Cockos forum about Reaper if they should drop eternal free trial

    - as I recall over 80% said no

    - my conclusion, vast majority never paid for Reaper

Long ago I had some monitors for sale and a prospect buyer were insisting on discount on price

    - if it was from $115 to $100 or something

    - and signature from email said "sent from my iPhone"

    :D

He had an iPhone and still was gready enough, that was his priority, the most exclusive smartphone at the time.

You obviously weren't around when most of the guys here paid $500.00 for Sonar Platinum before 2018.  Yes, some got a freebie over the years but I can assure you most on this thread "paid their dues" and have the right to post their equipment on their sigs.
