Ok thanks, I see it there. I always save the projects the first time as "save as" with a name.  I see some things under utilities " consolidate project audio" and  "clean audio folder"  I don't know what that does but should research it.

I'd be very careful with using that option ( Clean audio folder) until you understand it. If not set correctly you might remove needed files. I think it was updated a few years back so maybe it's better now..

When I finalize a project I do another 'Save as'  into a totally new folder. All the files used in the project will be saved into the 'Audio' folder inside that project folder. Like cleaning deleted unused files in the project won't be saved, saves space.

A little judicious limiting wouldn't hurt the recording a bit.
(then I wouldn't have had to pull the volume down on the next tune; ouch)

It is low for YT..If you check the Nerd Stats the content loudness is -16.00 dB or IIRC 16dB lower than it should be. ( not it's LUFS)

  4. If it's what I think you mean...

I would open that main & shared file project, re-save them each using 'copy audio with project' into their own/ new project folder. (actually I would check all your projects & save them this way)  Keep/ backup that project in case there's other projects that might have any shared files in it.

Also check & backup the Global Audio folder If you use that or if there are any unknown audio files in it.

I usually backup to several external HD's (doesn't need to be SSD) & DVD's, sometimes flash drives too..

  5. If you don't think you'll be satisfied with your take I might try another vocalist. Either that or maybe revise/ rewrite the track to fit 'you' & where you would feel more comfortable with it.

I can also imagine this tune being performed as a slower / groove tempo version too. That might give it a more 'age appropriate' vibe that you're after. (or possibly a future version)

Of course that means total redo & using a different vocalist might involve budget, availability, deadlines. Either way I would say trust your gut, you have a great voice!

(hope it's  a speedy recovery with the surgery too)

  6. Dug the track Barry, always enjoy your vocals / lyrics & guitar playing..

I'm listening on cans so can't critique but maybe maybe try a bit hpf/ lpf or some compression on the reverb bus ...I'm just thinking out loud..- great job!

It was well worth blowin' 20 years of dust off this - sounds pretty fresh to me.

Enjoyed the listen - cool guitar chops

    Andy

    Much appreciated Andy, thanks!

Yeah, the harmony vocals have a 60s tone quality, and everything else is very slick, as mentioned above like Steely Dan. Love the pizzicato strings, nicely played and placed. Electric piano is smooth. Very nice!

So when was this originally recorded?

Many thanks Barry, I wrote/ recorded this tune around 2001.

So much to like here: drums, guitar, vocals, BGVs, unexpected chord changes to name but a few and great chops all round.

Incredible mix - sounds brilliant on cans - and I absolutely adore that animated AKAI reel to reel - wonderful!

    Andy

Thanks for the feedback Andy, glad the mix is working for you.  Some of the gtr. tracks were recorded in dual mono (forgot why I did it that way) The left side of some were accidentally deleted so I had be creative mixing it down!
