  5. Carrying it over for the new users. I would love more insight into this offer. S4 is on a preorder status. Not sure how long the preorder will last. https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/st4/
  6. @Steev I was once more of a black and white kinda guy. Now I've become more vanilla on some issues, DAWs being one of those. Much of how you make a choice has a lot to do with a person's environment. If I went to a mixing engineer school I would probably be using Pro Tools today, even it was only on the side since most reputable schools and colleges are still using PT. I can imagine a professor here and there recommending their students learn more than one DAW. CbB is an easy way to get into an alternative DAW. The only issue there is they might not go back. On the old forum there were several who admitted to using PT as the mastering DAW at work but they mixed all of their tracks in Cakewalk and imported to PT . They use it at work because they have no choice. Most studios have it on hand in case a client wants to work in it. I don't think PT is bad. I simply never had a need for it. Knowing that some think CbB is easier to mix in it doesn't boost my faith in it any more. If I had a studio for hire I would likely have it on hand and I would need to learn it. A high resolution .wav crosses over to anything, so it's really up to what a person likes likes. With 5 million downloads and counting CbB might become a very common DAW in the near future. It'll be like- Grab a copy of CbB and shoot me some tracks. With the new export function this is literally the case.
  7. This is something I want to to break into more. Using CbB for backing tracks. I've mostly bought them and imported them. Any monkey can do that I suppose. Our setup isn't very large. My click/info tracks are sent from a headphone amp I brought in.
  8. Same here MUDGEL- Best wishes to you in your recovery. I went through a few particularly tough similar years. I'm only telling you that because I think I can relate somewhat. Hope you can get back to doing what you love to do. Feel free tp PM me if you need an ear. Back to topic- My DAW purpose has been a moving target lately. I never had serious commercial aspirations, though I released an album using CbB. It seems one day I'm writing in midi and sofware synths, the next day I'm recording live tracks. The next day I'm writing notation. I also use DAW's for backing tracks playing gigs. About the only thing I haven't done much of is looping. At heart, I'm a composer. This has been most of my use in DAWs. They are great tools for ideas and composition.
  9. When I looked at Pro Tools I seen a price of something close to 1000.00 to buy it outright or use their payment plan. I like Meng's payment plan much better. I was one of those who bought Cakewalk software when it was for sale. Not sure what the future holds for CbB, though Meng has said he won't charge for the core program unless I misunderstood him. Meng reported 5 million downloads of the program. Something should come of that.
  10. I'll admit I would have missed the deals thread. I was willing loose it up as a worthy trade to have a new forum. I'm glad Meng will be adding it. I thank you. My wallet however, does not. Meng does not clown around. 🤡... 😄. Loving the emoji too. Some grown men won't use them. I guess I'm not grown yet.
  11. I haven't tried images yet. Good to hear it works so well in that regard. It's great to see new users here as well as the old ones. I am an old user. I was going on 8000 posts in the old forum. I'm no host , but a hearty WELCOME from me to all of you! I love to talk recording and DAWs. I love to see what creative minds can do with them. So you'll probably see me around these parts regularly.
  12. My experiences in the studio with Cakewalk have been largely good ones. It has been my main studio workhorse for years. I have a few others. Always went to Cakewalk for creation purposes. The other DAWs I have are Traction, Studio One 4 Pro, Ableton Live 10, Mixcraft Pro 8. I like them enough to probably keep at least bi yearly updates on all aside from CbB which updates free. The others all have some use depending on what you want to do. I don't think the average user has the time to jump between a bunch of daws and get anything done. DAWS I might buy. Acid Pro 8. I have Acid 7 and might upgrade it simply because I like working looped material in it better than anything else. DAWS I tried and never ended up using. Reaper, Cubase. Not bad programs. I simply don't have the time to invest in learning another DAW. I was never attracted to Mixbus. What appears to be a console emulation with DAW function. I downloaded it and played a bit with it. Decided it wasn't for me. Have tons of emulation plugins already. I am beginning to write notation for groups. I needed a program to use for that. As someone who prefers creating in a DAW in real time, the idea that I could export to Notion from Studio One appealed to me. I DON'T like writing notes in one at a time in any program be it midi or notation. CbB has some notation ability which maybe I should investigate more. I believe it is very rudimentary though. Would get the job done on a simple project. For those looking at notation option there's also a decent marriage between Sibleus and Pro Tools. Maybe better in some ways than Studio One/Notion. Never used that setup personally. You don't need rewire with Studio One though it has the option. You can use another built in protocol that makes transfer easier to do.
  13. I like the new look of the forum. Not extremely different than the old one, actually seems a bit more open than the old one. The paint here is still new. What do you think?
  14. I was "starise" over there....if you can move mine over great. If not. No big deal. It would be nice to somehow identify those who are long timers. Not absolutely necessary for me though. Maybe a fresh start will be nice.
  15. Thank you to everyone involved in this transition. The forum looks great. Happy Holidays !
