The Axe I/O Solo (and standard model) have a Monitor Knob - all the way left is all direct monitor - all the way right is all DAW monitor. I agree about just listening to the instrument direct while playing along with the recorded tracks.

I finally figured it out - I read Sweetwater's advice page on the Axe I/O. They didn't have the below steps in their guide but I found the solution just poking around in the tabs after choosing "Additional Properties" for the Input in Windows. Windows - Open Sound Settings. Click on Device Properties under the Input section. Click Additional Properties The old Windows Sound properties box pops up Choose the Input Tab Uncheck "Listen to Device"

Here is the setup: Cakewalk latest version Bass plugged into Channel 1 on Axe I/O Axe I/O Monitor knob rolled all the right to DAW Axe I/O Headphone volume at 12 noon In the Axe I/O interface Control Panel I have Direct Monitor set to Mono. I always hear the bass in the left channel even when I pan the input in Cakewalk hard right. I've toggled the interleave button to Stereo on both input track and Bus (tried toggling mono but didn't help) No matter what I do I hear the bass in the left channel I think its an issue where the Axe I/O is passing the Direct Out left channel all the time even when the Monitor knob is all the right to full DAW sound. Mentioning here in case someone says something like "you need to use a mono track for the bass" or some other setting I haven't seen yet. Thanks in advance for any input on this

I sometimes do IT work in the evening for a local church where the pipers practice ensemble. I love bagpipes but have to leave - it's deafening.

We've been evaluating large diaphragm condenser mics. So far the Neuman U87ai and the JZ BH1. I would describe the BH1 as a very clear sounding U87ai. The vocalist in our band prefers the U87ai as it is a little less crisp so perhaps the description should be "warmer". I prefer the BH1 but I'm not singing 😀.

I'm hooked on the PA Brainworx Ampeg B15N (created by Nembrini) for headphone bass practice. It sounds and responds like the real amp and overdrives nicely when you play harder. Nevertheless, I'm intriqued by the enthusiasm for Softube's WT-800. My daily driver bass amp is the WT-400 into a 210XLT/D115. How does it compare to PA's WT-800? UPDATE: Downloaded the demo - they gave me a 3 week trial. Will report back here on my evaluation. UPDATE 2: Used it for practice tonight. It does respond well and sounds very like the WT-800. I don't mind going as high as $40 for an amp sim if I think I'll play it enough. Thinking about it. Will go back to AT5 and Tonex and see how the Eden's I've saved in there play compared to the Softube WT-800

I already have some tabla and other Indian percussion instruments for Kontakt but downloaded this anyway because I don't know how to play them 😀

Thanks for responses. Thank goodness for your wife or you wouldn't be using MTM's and instead be blasting your ears with those Adams 😀. My acoustics consultant friend says the MTM's will work better in my room. I leaning towards ordering them.

I'm thinking of buying the currently $600/pair iLoud MTM's. This idea was triggered by the release of the ARC Studio. I use ARC 3 when mixing, it would be nice to run everything through ARC all the time which isn't really feasible with the plugin. Then I realized my current amp has unbalanced inputs and I would have to figure out the correct (if possible) connection of the ARC Studio to it. I looked into active near fields and the MTM's look to be a very good choice. I'm wondering if the built in ARC would be enough room correction? I've done about half the recommended acoustic treatment in the room (remaining recommendations by acoustic pro friend would involve radically changing room layout) so I have a bass bump at 100hz that ARC does a good job flattening. Interested in any feedback on the standard MTM's (not Precision). Thanks

Just spent half an hour playing it. Pretty sure it will go into regular rotation. Good sounding piano for sing/songwriter rock multi-track recording.

I bought it - had some credit on PB so was $8 plus I chose UA PolyMAX as freebie. I usually use modeled pianos, Mrs Mills is the only sample based piano I use regularly. This piano was on my short list because so many people on music forums have mentioned they like it. Did you guess I'm not a concert pianist? 😀

I've used Reaper for years but decided Cakewalk was better for a band/studio I'm working with. We've been very happy with the results. Reaper is good for accomplishing certain recording/mixing/editing maneuvers quickly though it's scripting ability. I'm hopeful Bandlab rolls out an inexpensive perpetual license that you can elect to upgrade annually for an also reasonable price. I'm allergic to monthly subscriptions.

These licenses work only for the hardware first activated on. If your motherboard dies you would need to purchase again (or any change to hardware significant enough to confuse the licensing server). I've used these types of licenses before, you're activating against a volume license key.

I'm working with a studio that moved from analog to digital this past year. I've been collecting freebies as we go along and we bought a few IK products on deep discount. I've found some of the older Waves products are useful (like Renaissance plugins). It's annoying that the 2 additional free plugins are from a list that omits plugins we would like to get such as Vocal Rider or the live autotune. I think in our position of not having bought many plugins that this bundle is well worth it. Interested in any comments on this decision. Thanks

I've got Kontakt 7 player and use it for several instruments. I could swear I read that Aquae Organ required the full Kontakt.

Good catch, I installed it but didn't test - I only have Kontakt 6 Full so no Aquae Organ for me.
