maybe both are a tad but really liking the lower vocal - very cool.

Not sure my voice would be right for it but I'd have a go at some backing vocals in the chorus if no-one else pipes up.

Doesn't matter @daryl1968 if no one else pipes in...   go for it  🙂

    Im recording at 48x24bit

    Gary,

Instrumental 3 version sounds nice.  The only change I would make to the sound is I would make the bottom end a little more pronounced.  It's there but the notes are not distinct.

I have a problem with the introduction.  After the count-in the first sound seems to be a high hat sweep, then sustained keyboard chord, then closed high hat hits and side stick and then guitars.  I would eliminate the initial high hat sweep for two reasons, the sound interferes with the initial keyboard sound and all the instruments have their own introduction except for the drums which is introduced twice, before and after the keyboard introduction.

I'm looking forward to hearing the final product.

Thanks for listening and excellent comments Jim.
I will look at those suggestions tomorrow...  just added a version recently and then saw this!!  🙂

    Once again thanks a bunch!

  3. Sorry guys as I dont mean to hog the board.

I have now redone the vocal and also sang bass vocal for backing.
I dont know how to harmonize to be honest in the upper range.

I started the track at a lower volume and gradually increase in each verse... maybe I have over done it??
Once again MANY MANY thanks to everyone for the help on this.
I could fork it on BandLab if someone would like to have ago at backing vocals.
    Cheers as always,

    Gary

Those strings on the left are nice...
Go back to my original point...  I would bring the sax down a little...  so the others can shine.

Very nice piece of music... like it a lot.

I can't think of any 19 year old I knew back in the day that could write this song.  It take life experiences, or the ability to sing like you've lived them, to sing a song like this.

Thats true mate...  thats why I wrote it.

Pretty smooth Gary. I'm not going to "rip it to bits" but I am having a little problem with the far left guitar. There are a couple of rough sliding squeaks around the 40 sec mark that could be tamed. They may also show up downstream but not as noticeable. The guitar also seems to be a little forward in the mix keeping my attention to the left side. I think it may interfere a little when the vocals are brought back in. The acoustic sounds real good but could be brought up some.   mark

Thanks so much @mark skinner...  thats what Im looking for...  Im on it.

Thanks so much @Sabby Brown for taking the time to listen.

I thought the mix was pretty good - maybe a bit too much verb on the vocal - but that's to taste.

I listened to both versions - I prefer the one with the  vocal - mostly because you have an excellent voice.

    Thanks @Douglas Kirby
I have just added the instrumental(backing track) as my ears where too tired yesterday and hope I have fixed the reverb problem.
There was too much Sunset Studio room.. so I have removed it all together.
The reverb you hear now are from UAD Capital Chambers.

  8. HI guys/gals,
Could I please have your feedback on this mix for the track.
There are no vocals as Im going to redo them as I had a problem with sibulence.

I have added an acoustic guitar to this version.
Thanks for the comments... and please rip it to bits.

    Cheers,

    Gary

  9. WOW thats a lot of lyrics  🙂
I also noticed a few clipping as those written above and agree also with the room choice.

You have a great voice for this style of music.

  10. This was really nice mate.
It would be great for a documentary.

A few years ago I drove in my Land Rover from Norway and spent 5 weeks crossing the dessert with my son in Morocco:
This would have been perfect for the video footage.

Thanks all, I  appreciate the comments & feedback.

    @garybrun

Thanks Gary, are you talking about the bass guitar or the low end in general?

    Bass guitar
    Will take another listen

I think the lead sax masks everything at the beginning  (I am thinking like a vocal in a track and the sax is the vocal and could be dropped a litte)  then I think the other instruments would pop.

    Very nice...
love the sax playing.,, and great frequency separation too.

We all paint very different pictures,,,  could the bass come up a little more?
