John, thanks for the nice complement. The funky beat came from my experiment with EZ Keys, but I know my parents would have approved; it's part of the family DNA. It's good to hear from you again. Hope you're doing well! Thanks for the kind words!

Tom, I took your suggestion and narrowed the mix a bit because I noticed on headphones that it did seem a bit wider than I remembered. I do like it better now, so thanks a million to you and Nigel for that! Good call! Thanks so much for your encouragement! I did refine the mix a little, for the better, I hope. As for the story, I took a few liberties with that, but something apparently did happen, but I only heard bits and pieces from relatives long after my parents had passed. The voice, however, is my own with all its grit and years of abuse for polish.

Timbo, you make 3 good points, which I will keep in mind when I remix this. I love suggestions like this, and I thank you very much for taking the time to make them! Thanks, Mark for your reply and kind words. I'm glad you liked it! I promise to leave them on your head Bjorn, I'm glad you like this! Thanks, as always, for your time and trouble. As for the milestone, I have nearly enough, now, to find my way home

Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you liked it. Thank you for your reply and time! The chorus is something of an experiment, and whether is succeeds or not, time will tell.

Well, I appreciate your opinion. Thanks for your time and ideas! I'll keep them in mind when I remix this. Tom, thanks for your kind words. Oh, to have the horn section from Muscle Shoals~~~ Yeah, I wonder if I can incorporate that first horn line a bit more. As for the song, I took a few liberties with the story, but I'm sure if I opened a can of worms, my dad would have used them for bait. Ed, it's always a good day when you drop by. Thanks for the encouragement!

Thanks for taking the time, Bob! I appreciate your feedback. Yeah, that's what I thought you meant. I did go for a certain effect on the choruses. One backup is going through Wave's OVox for texture, and the other is going through a digital delay set to "analog". I hope you weren't referring to the lead vox throughout the song, or I may have to recalculate my intentions. I may need to "borrow" your ears some more David, that's what I was shooting for. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. You're a gem!

Thank you, Freddy! I'm glad you like the song and my vocal delivery. You kind of moved me in the direction of releasing a "blues-based" song. B36B, thanks for your time and kind words! Much appreciated.

Thanks, mate! This was a lot of fun to do. Makke, thanks again for your support and time!

Barry, you really set a high bar when it comes to songwriting and producing! Great lyrics always makes a voice better, but you really don't need much help there. You may have posted this before, but I'd like to know the recording chain of your vocal, as it works very well.

Superb song, Rex! All I hear is a great voice and haunting melody that stands on its own. One of your great talents is versatility, and it really shows on this tune. I listened to this song 3 times in a row, so I guess I like it as is.

Hi Barry, thanks for dropping by and taking the time! I know what you mean by the horn section, but Session Horns is the best thing I have to give it the flavor I want. It's kind of like using artificial vanilla opposed to real vanilla, but I don't have access to a real horn section, so... I'm not sure what you mean by the vocal being too AM, and I'm sorry about the crappy PA sound, but I don't quite hear that. Regardless, I value your input, and your words will stay with me on future projects. I'm always open to upgrading my vocal sound! Steve, thanks so much for your kind words! I just hit 70 last Wednesday, when I posted this song. Coincidently, my birthday comes on my late parents anniversary. I shouldn't be surprised that you're a Pisces, too.

Thank you, Jack! I have to abuse my voice a little to get there, but that's half the fun! Hey Paul, it's good to hear from you! I know what you mean, it could have a break, and would if it were live...something to ponder.

Hi Nigel, thanks for listening. I know what you mean by the wide panning-sometimes I like my instruments in different area codes As far as what was said, I never found out~~~ but I have a feeling I've heard it. Thank you so much, Douglas! I like funky music very much and played in a horn band when I was in high school, so this harkens back to that period of my life.

Hello CW friends! Today is a special day for me, so I thought I'd post a song that I wrote in honor of my parents whose anniversary is today. I wrote the song several months ago but hadn't posted it yet. It marks my first use of EZ Keys, which has been a boon for me in learning to play keyboards better. It's my version of Texas roadhouse blues and can be found here: https://soundclick.com/r/s8ectf As always, it's all done in CW using S-Gear for guitars and Superior Drummer 3 for drums. Always looking for suggestions, and thanks in advance for your time and help! 03/23/21: I've taken your suggestions and remixed this, and it does sound better to my ears. I brought the guitar and piano closer together (from 75 L & R to 65) because I noticed on headphones that it seemed wider than I remembered. Also, I tamed the hihat in the first verse a little, but otherwise, that's all. If anyone else has an idea, it only takes about 10 minutes from start to finish to change, including all uploads. Many thanks to all who've contributed, and I think it's improved.

This is a good song, Douglas! You are the model of consistency.

That's good to hear! I'm thinking about upgrading my monitors and Adams are on my list. Thanks for replying, Wookie!

Try going to Waves Central and re-authorize your plug-ins to your new computer. That has worked for me.

This is a good song that is very close to a good mix. The performances are rock solid, and I think John's ideas are worth trying. This will be stellar when you get it just so!
-
If you ever meet Steven King - beware!! You could write a story based on this. Maybe you already have~~~

Aside from all the mixing suggestions, this is just a cool song with a hint of Talking Heads kind of vibe. I like your voice very much, and I think that doubling it makes sense, like Mark said. I like your responses to some of the critiques; I feel a strong sense of confidence in your work, and I look forward to hearing more.

This is so beautifully conceived and executed that it shows off your mastery of sound and light. Universes get started this way!
-
Thanks, Freddy! Maybe it's time we put our heads together. I've always appreciated your support. Steve, being a fan of yours, I really thank you for your kind words!

I think this is a terrific recording and song! Though I'm not a fan of Landr, this works OK for this song. I like things that are a little different, and this sounds just fine, as is, to my ears. I'm looking forward to your next song!

What a pleasant surprise! This is so different and clever that I'm in awe. It's very professional and polished and deserving of a large audience. A+
