I hope it's OK to post this at all, let alone as a new topic, but I've done a bit of a video for my most recent song. Admins please remove it if it violates any rules or etiquette. I know a lot of people commented about the reverb and I did tinker with it but I thought it fitted the mood of the song to leave it as-is. I did action some other comments though, for example the cello suggestion from @jack c. The video is almost entirely made up of still photos of my family and friends since the year dot, so interest from other people such as your good selves might be limited, on the other hand it might be worth a look as I think it matches the song well. It opens and closes with a shot of my parents' wedding day circa 1942 and brings it pretty much up to date with my second wedding in 2016. Far too many of the people featured have now passed away, some way too young (two of my three brothers, my first girlfriend and my ex-wife). It seems to play with better picture quality on Facebook than YouTube, but here are links to both: https://www.facebook.com/1070952278/videos/799463811519325/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AC7BIgcywjw The "town" shots are my hometown of Blackburn in NW England.

Duly noted, thanks for listening ?
-
Wow, thank you so much ?

Any idea where I might acquire the pro version? My Google searches suggest that it came only with SONAR Platinum which I believe is no longer available (?).
-
Beautifully sung as always @RexRed. What did you use for strings? Sounds great.

I was going for the Beatles' "Long Long Long" effect ? Splendid idea ? That's the point of the story being told; the guy is lamenting the often mundane and absurd aspects of his life because he is dying, so his days are gone and the realisation has hit him hard. I don't know what "tmi" means I'm afraid.
-
Yeah I did wonder if it was a bit long. I'm still pondering that one, and I don't normally go in for the wall of sound approach but it seems to fit the topic quite well IMO ?

Hi Jack. I'm not a fan of doing double-tracked vocals but I'll certainly take a look at the EQ.
-
Cheers Gary. You hum it son, I'll play it.

I sincerely don't want to cause any offence, and I do appreciate the skill that has gone into creating this, but have you considered doing your own arrangement rather than cloning the original? I know that it can be a good learning experience to recreate what you hear on a record, and that night well have been your goal, but in my limited experience, it can be a real buzz to make an established song "your own". I think I pulled it off with the Beatles' "For No one" many years ago, so if I can do it then so can you. Just my 2p worth ?

Not my cup of tea but wow, what superb musicianship and the mix is just sublime. Well done.

If you're of a certain age and you grew up in the UK then you might identify with some of this. https://www.bandlab.com/post/9baf255e-ffef-ed11-9f73-6045bd31b578 EDIT: new link. Shorter second guitar solo, some phrases re-sung with improved diction, cello added to first bridge, other minor tweaks.

Thanks Nigel. I've tarted the vocal up now and updated the link.

Thanks Jack. Yeah I always struggle with the vocals so I might go back and do some touching up, but I don't think this song will be part of my own repertoire, I just did it because I fancied it.

Your voice has potential IMO. Try a more aggressive approach to singing and apply some EQ and verb. Sounds a bit bassy and seems to sit on top of the mix for me.

Fantastic job, well done indeed ?

I saw the title and I thought it was my song of the same name ? I do like (what I consider to be) "strange" stuff like this. Reminded me of Talking Heads, particularly the vocal. Very nice job ?
-
Sorry @DeeringAmps that was probably me being a bit over zealous tidying up ?
-
I think this is probably as good as I can make it now. Thanks for all the feedback ? https://www.bandlab.com/post/4927805f-3ee3-ed11-9f73-6045bd31b578

Thank you so much @Supa Reels ?

You have a wonderful singing voice, I don't think that "Solace" needs the delay on it. I think it would would have far more impact without it. Just my 2p worth.

This started out as my lyrics set onto a backing track from the Bandlab website. I decided to make my own backing track to make the verses scan a bit better, and here it is. Comments welcomed as always. https://www.bandlab.com/post/031e50d2-c9da-ed11-9f73-6045bd31b578

Our school band's 50th reunion. Recorded one of our songs written in 1973.
Keith Wilby replied to PJH's topic in Songs
You were a hell of a sight better than the band I was in at school in 73. You must have had a real blast doing this. Great job. -
Yes indeed, disrespect on here is the furthest thing from my mind, plus this isn't "my own tune" [sic] anyway, and a "free guitar solo" wouldn't benefit me in any way, I just thought it would be a bit of a hoot and bring a smile to peoples' faces. I thought we were all one big happy band here and, for the record, I did invite you @RikF to collaborate on the Bandlab project. I'm a complete newbie to "forking" but if I set the project privacy wrong or got the etiquette wrong then, in the greater scheme of things, it's not really a big deal is it? And quite how I "put [you] on the spot" is a mystery to me I'm afraid.
