  1. When you say cwp icon, are you referring to the icon image of the project file or the project file (*.cwp) itself?

If you cannot find the project file itself, try to search the entire drive by typing *.cwp in the Explorer search box.

If there is no icon image in the project file, check the cwp file association.

If you have a serial number for Essential, you can use it as a coupon to get a €20 discount direct with Celemony.
It doesn't even matter if it has been registered as mine has been.
Just entered that registered Serial No and it brought the update to Studio 5 from version 4 down to €9.

I have several Essential serial numbers, can I use only one at a time as a coupon?
If I can use more than one at a time...

When you make your order from the BFDdrums site, make sure you use your InMusic email address, because the serial numbers aren't sent via email anymore, but deposited directly into your InMusic account associated with that email.  I did not know this and used my email associated with my PayPal account to make the order.

    This is good to know.

I had a similar experience when I purchased Mixcraft after SONAR stopped development. Because I paid via Paypal, the Mixcraft credentials were tied to my Paypal email address, which I later had to have changed. (I have since changed my Paypal email address to my DAW-related email address.)

    I missed that!

Cakewalk Next beta installer can only be downloaded from the Discord server.
It is a great mystery to me why you did not know about the Discord server.

Where did you download the installer from?

Next is still in public beta so I don't know what else you'd call it

    ??

    How about "Cakewalk Next"?

"Cakewalk Next" is currently in public beta testing and the latest version is currently 1.0.1.035-beta.

Bug reports, suggestions and discussions about Cakewalk Next should take place on dedicated Discord server.

Has Cakewalk changed its use of Webview2 runtime?

In the following thread, @Jesse Jost explains "For clarification, the WebView2 component is necessary for sign-in because it supports the modern web. (~omission~) Due to account authorization and product activation, not having this runtime is not an option."

    I did uninstall  Webview 2

Seems you missed my comment, so I write it again.
The Webview2 component is required for Cakewalk activation.
    Sorry, this was outdated information.

I did uninstall MS  edge and Webview 2 as the whole system seemed to get unstable when installed today. And worked fine again  once removed.

If MS Edge isn't the "Required" browser to install updates, not sure why the Cakewalk installer forced it on me this time?

The Edge WebView2 component is required for Cakewalk activation. (Sorry, this was outdated information.)
If I remember correctly, it's a required component starting with Cakewalk version 2021.01

When you say from the "Help menu", you mean  the help menu  inside cakewalk I assume?

When I try that I get the attached message:  "Connection Error - Could not check for updates. Please try again later"

I suspect that your currently installed version of Cakewalk is too old for the update to work from the help menu.

If I remember correctly, you can run the Cakewalk Installer to overwrite install the latest version without uninstalling. (Sorry if I'm misremembering...)

  10. This is my personal perception.

If only the track name is highlighted, that track simply has the focus with the track selected, and some shortcut key operation will operate on that track.

If the track number is highlighted, it is a little more complicated.
If you click on a track number to highlight it, clips (Audio or MIDI) in that track are selected, and the other way round, if you select clips, the corresponding track number is highlighted. Furthermore, if the selected clips spans multiple tracks, all corresponding track numbers will be highlighted.
(When there is a selection in the time ruler, these behavior gets even more complicated...)

I think you need to get a sense of it through actual experience.

  11. Are you using USB 3.0 devices such as thumb drives? If so...

High-frequency noise generated by USB 3.0 devices may affect devices using the 2.4 GHz band, such as the following

    • Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) IEEE 802.11b/g/n
    • Bluetooth
    • 2.4 GHz wireless peripherals (mouse, keyboard, etc.)

The solution to this is, for example...

    • Separate the USB 3.0 port from the receiver
    • Use a USB extension cable to separate the USB 3.0 port from the USB 2.0 connector
    • Replace with a shielded device to reduce noise
    • Connect the receiver to the USB 2.0 port

    CakewalkHelp_Documentation_1.0.0.21.exe

I guess it will update a local help file which you can see with pressing F1 key (or Help > Documentation) when the "Always Use Local Help" option is enabled in the preferences (File - Advanced).

I installed BandLab Assistant, but still can't see where to install SI. It looks like SI does not come with CbB because if it did I assume I would see it.

Launch CbB > Open Help menu > Click "Check for Updates"
If you don't have the latest Studio Instruments Suite on your PC, a toast should pop up to download it, I guess.
