It seems I'm getting emails based on my Notification Settings.

My Notification Settings: Checked on Email section

• One email per day with all new content from that day
• Someone quotes a comment or post I made
• Someone mentions me in a post
• etc...

I had same problem updating to v4.0.0 from v3.3.0. (About updating to v5.0.1 from v4.0.0 was no problem.)
I just downloaded latest installer of BandLab Assistant and then installed it without uninstalling old BandLab Assistant. It's works.

FYI: Probably you can not quit BandLab Assistant from Gear icon after Update Failed. But you can quit from right click menu on Task tray icon. (or kill task in the Task manager.)

"Read - Unread Separator" is not noticeable.

More bold, other color or changing background color temporarily?

Is it better that unchecking selected checkbox in BandLab section on the Account Settings?

I did just download Latest installer and then install it. (No need to uninstall old BA before install it.)
