Y'all make this too complicated. I just figure out which things I really want and buy the most expensive.

It's awesome that you still have the same guitar 45 years later. I'm not sure how I feel knowing that I have a couple of vintage pieces of gear that I bought brand new ....

Question About Audio Enhancements
Byron Dickens replied to cubic lights's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
What comes out of Cakewalk is correct. Once you release your project into the wild, you have no control any more. People will destroy or preserve their own listening experience as they will. Having said that, you have now opened up a whole other giant can of worms concerning how your mixes translate....- 23 replies

Presonus driver (Universal Control) on win10 and win7
Byron Dickens replied to RummieGit's topic in Computer Systems
Maybe two years ago, but I just looked and it's Windows 7 SP 1 or higher. It's not "arrogance," it's economics. Developers are running a business. They can't afford to waste resources pursuing solutions for the one Luddite who insists on sticking with Windows 98 because he doesn't want to change. It just isn't viable. Realize too that none of them - not even the major players - are large companies. Most of them are at most a scant handful of people. A lot are even just one or two. Welcome to the world of what is. It's a lot easier to live there than in the world of what if. So does everybody else but if you don't keep up within reason you'll really struggle. There just isn't much of a market for buggy whips any more. That just might work. Until you can't get cassette tapes any more. -

This is the same mentality that removes a music video from YouTube for 2 seconds of a rather unpopular German political figure from the 1930s and 40s even though it is abundantly clear to anyone with three functioning brain cells that neither the individual nor his poisonous ideas are supported but instead are being equated with other assorted unpleasantness.

Presonus driver (Universal Control) on win10 and win7
Byron Dickens replied to RummieGit's topic in Computer Systems
Lots of apps still run on W7 and will continue to. One of the great things about Windows is that Microsoft is not in the habit of breaking software with new OS releases like Apple is. Not only will old software will often run on the new OS, very often new software will run on the Old OS. But there are no guarantees. I don't think any developer in their right minds is going to spend resources dealing with issues arising on an OS that is no longer being maintained. If it works, great but don't expect any support. We have people running CbB on W7 just fine but Cakewalk's official line is "it should work but you're on your own." -
First thing: are you talking about BandLab or Cakewalk? Two entirely different things.

(not a deal) T-RackS Tascam Tape Collection now available
Byron Dickens replied to Peter - IK Multimedia's topic in Deals
That right there is the reason I made my earlier comment. -

I can't see any benefits in using obsolete 1930's vacuum tube technology either. Or the thousands-year-old technology of making sounds by blowing through a cylinder or rubbing tensioned strings together or plucking them. Oh, wait..... -

You got your answer. Microsoft has dropped support for W7. What developer do you think is still going to waste resources on an obsolete OS? -
Kinda like they did when Gibson killed SONAR, huh?

Virtually new install - TTS-1 missing already!
Byron Dickens replied to Digsy's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
True, some people use it all the time without issues. Others can fiddle-fart around with various workarounds and "get it to work." Somewhat. Still others have nothing but issues. Therefore, I can't really get myself to recommend expending much effort on it when there's quite literally thousands of plugins that work flawlessly. My time is too valuable to waste on abandonware. The OP has not mentioned issues with any other plugins. -

Ok. TTS1 is an obsolete, no-longer-maintained DXI. Move on and use different instruments. -
drum kit sounding over every MIDI instrument
Byron Dickens replied to ildike's topic in Instruments & Effects
Only disagreement I have is that if you don't have an audio interface that supports ASIO, you need to get one. Stay away from ASIO4ALL. It tends to be problematic.- 5 replies

Move on and use different instruments. TTS1 is an obsolete, no-longer-maintained 32 bit DXI. It is known problematic. -
There's a lot more to mixing than just hardware. You need a real audio interface for sure, but one with a proper ASIO driver. The UMC22 ain't that. Yes. And room treatment is even more important. Especially bass traps. Actually, I don't understand. First of all, you shouldn't be "blasting" your speakers. Secondly, your family should be supportive and encouraging of your hobby. If they aren't, I am truly sad for you

IK 25th Anniversary Group Buy - Your best product purchases
Byron Dickens replied to Max Arwood's topic in Deals
I don't need a computer to twitch. I did that earlier when I went out to feed the dogs, saw that the top 2/3 of a tree had fallen over into their yard during the storm last night and started thinking about having to cut it up -
Yeah. Microsoft doesn't break software nearly as bad as Crapple.

Yet another reason I remain Waveless.

I almost feel guilty. THIS is why I don't bitch about IK's pricing structure. Their sales are so incredible. This is right after I got Syntronik Deluxe for the same price as just one of the titles on its own. One of these group buys years ago is what initiated me into the world of paid plugins in the first place.
