  1. The Creative Sauce tutorial mentioned above. Routing individual channels to CW starts around 12".
  2. thought this was gonna be about Robert Johnson... time to focus on my acting career
  3. How well does it work with no other FX or tracks loaded? No experience with Nebula here, but found clock speed seems to make a major difference with the Aquas I've tried, but still a bit glitchy when changing buffer sizes. Got usable results by overclocking the CPU from 3,3 GHz to ~5GHz.
  4. @tom how well is the Kent working for you? Are you able to track in realtime with it or do you use it in a "reamp" mode? None of the Vox clones I've tried have the sound I'm looking for. The Kent recently popped up on my radar but have yet to try a Nebula. The couple of Aquas I've tried, while sounding great, score very low on dynamic responsiveness (playability). fwiw, SGear continues to be my goto for tone & playability and I am but one of many who would love to see his take on an AC30. Unfortunately there has never been any indication or commitment to development. The latest release implies a priority on pedals, so not expecting any surprises any time soon (or this decade given his track record).
  5. Will check it out. @Starship Krupa in case I wasn't clear, using Fragments as FX and seeding it with "acoustic" sounds. Not sure that counts as "sound design" per se but takes things in a pretty interesting direction.
  6. Excellent point. started out with UAD for cross platform projects but found it to be a bit pricey trying to keep up with everybodys faves (and dead SHARCs). Got on the PA bandwagon when the native versions started getting released and will keep an eye on UAD Spark to see if it has any merit. not much of a synth/keys user, but liking Arturia's Fragments for something different.
  7. best pro mixing tip evah. ? sounds like you went from street dope to methadone. ? ... imho, stock plugins are generally more than good enough, but see them being supplemented; 1) to add a missing "flavor" 2) for better "sonic quality" (i.e. better dsp, oversampling, "3d" sound, etc) 3) for creative, non-traditional fx 4) for the potentially creative benefit of having multiple choices for a specific task (i.e. eq) to spark a different approach to a mix
  8. Only "wah-king" song I can think of is the Immigrant Song by LZ. Will be looking forward to your version. There shoud be plenty of cliches to abuse in the process.
  9. Sounds like a great question for Monty Python. Vikings have wah pedals?!! ... @pseudopop ya, knew what you meant, totally down with exploring unique combinations for something different. A strong "acoustic" core for a sound is a good place to start. The demos for this erhu sounded richer than the typical one dimensional token instruments you might find in a world Instrument collection.
  10. might be a nice problem to have in the days of everything sounding the same, but ya, a highly distinctive sound will stand out in any production, like autotune or DX7 patches. thankfully there is no shortage of saturation/distortion/lofi-ing plugins to mangle any uniqueness into submission. (hmm... autotuning an Erhu might sound pretty dope)
  11. This looked interesting if ur into geeking out on original sounds before they get mainstreamed. https://nantucketfilmfestival.org/nff2022-guide/2022/really-good-rejects clip here https://deadline.com/video/really-good-rejects-sxsw-documentary-director-alice-gu-guitar-maker-reuben-cox-clip-video/
  12. I'll see your three, and raise ya one.
  13. bots & scams, or maybe they just liked ur avatar?
  14. fwiw, this build has done good for my purposes, only recently got around to o/c'ing it to get some AA plugins to behave. The Alder Lakes look like they run pretty hot, but the reality of the projects I work on may be within a usable range for a rackmount. A relevant benchmark of project load vs. cpu temp would be nice, but until then expect to hold out for a future model. These are DAW only so grfx cards are minimal, but am considering the potential for video editing. Don't know if relocating a video card is possible but I'd want to make sure noise was not a problem.
  15. the "bang-for the buck" vs. "bleeding edge" decision. Last build was an i7-5820k which continues to do the job well enough for the most part, but coming up on 7 years = time for a new build. Clock speed will be key, but having major concerns with potential thermal issues. Builds here are 4U rackmounts and had to bend the cooler fins a few mm on the last one to get it in. Cracking 60C under somewhat heavy loads., but holding up ok otherwise. Alder Lakes appear to be mini blast furnaces in comparison (perhaps they should rename them Lava Lakes) and doesn't look like the low profile Nocturnas are up to the task for a rackmount. Intel's roadmap claims "double digit" increases in "performance/watt" for the next few iterations (Raptor/Meteor/Arrow) with Lunar Lake in 2024 featuring "leadership in ultra low power performance". Wondering if basic math is enough to confirm expected reductions in TPU. In the meantime, pondering the impact of climate change on DAW performance...
  16. nope. (at least not according to their documentation/support) yep, from the get go yep. yep. noting it often seems to be the same Labs getting borked with every update but also paid products. Checking folders to find files spewed all over the target folder, with no clue as to what they are or where they should be. The Labs are interesting and fun to play with, pianos/strings good, but working with them is like owning a Harley (driveway time /riding).
  17. Once again, the update wrecked the existing installation. Perhaps they could release an air raid siren and make it the default sound effect every time the updater gets run...
  18. Volume was an initial concern here as well, but quickly dismissed. fwiw, been mixing in spaces which are larger/more open/more live so enough loud goes a long ways. Expect the power differential you noted on the Emotivas was most likely needed to claim that 30Hz. The low end gets sorted out by flipping between the Focals and a set of Bose "computer" speakers which hype the low end in a predictable way along with earbud/headphone bumps. A reference spot in the room is dialed in for checking at volume so not missing a sub for the most part. The wide sweet spot is for real, as well as maintaining a nice balance across volume levels. . I'm sure their high end models are fabulous but the Alphas never sounded 'budget' to me or to anyone that's heard them. I had a SW rep try to talk me into the next-level line (Shape) when asking about the EVOs, but came across as a spec sheet up-sell based on commission. Current pricing looks like a nice deal. The Alphas needed a break-in to settle down (24 hrs of cranking some D'Angelo) which I assume is related to their novel cone material, the EVOs might need the same. Will be most interested in your thoughts once you've spent some time with them given your previous experience with extended low end. As for being French, Arturia is French and they've been doing a nice job lately. Transmissions might be a different story.
  19. Been working with Focal Alpha 65s for the last 5-6 years and swear by them for detailed midrange. I had expected to end up with the 80s, but couldn't hear a big enough difference in the low end at the time to make it a no-brainer. To be clear, the 65s took a bit of referencing to get a handle on the low end, but I'm not exactly trying to blow out windows at a stoplight either. I'm looking at the EVOs given my positive experience with the Alphas, not sure I can justify it as what I have is working just fine. The only issue I had was the auto-standby mode which would kick in (cut out) when working at low levels. Major pita, which they ended up disabling for free and is now an option. The LSR 308s sounded interesting, were touted as being a great bang-for-the-buck, but never gave them a proper listen. fwiw, Adam A7s were quite popular with my peeps but were more than a bit fatiguing for me. The Focals are anything but, can listen to them hours on end. A colleague who runs a fulltime commercial studio bought Alphas for mixing a couple of years ago and will also swear by them.
  20. emm... all i'm seeing is links to a product page with outdated vids. what do they consider to be "audio tips"?
  21. "If you use SSL plugins you probably want to check out the free "SSL 360" plugin mixer application, that automatically arranges all the SSL UI windows into a single UI window " this ^ might work as a limited option
  22. just what I needed for my mixes...
  23. Do they give Grammys for that?
