  1. If you see other Track Control "Widgets" but not the one for Output --> [ O ], that  could be a Track Control Manager issue.   It could be something else, but the Track Control Management box is the first place I'd look.

UPDATE:  I was able to get the [ O ] track control widget to be missing from a bus, by creating a Custom Track Control Preset and unchecking Output in the Bus Strip column.

If you have no idea what I am talking about, try changing the Track Control Preset to "All."

  2. Having used multi-timbral synths, samplers, and sound modules for decades, I was happy to see KV331's plans for SM3 included a multiple layers feature such that each layer would be able to have its own midi channel.  After watching the start of this video,** I began playing around with different MIDI I/O channels for the multi-layered presets. Others might be interested, too.

    Finally: SynthMaster 3 is out

Thanks for the heads up!  I was on version 15420. So, I took the extra step of clicking "Check for Updates" (logo in upper left) on your say so and was given the opportunity to download a newer version (which I did.)  So thanks for letting us know a release version is out.

**Addendum: Inserting a Synthmaster 3 Instrument Track into a project didn't trigger the "new version available" message nor did opening projects with the earlier versions of SM3 in either Cakewalk/Sonar or Voltage Modular.

  4. Yesterday, I saw the PSP VM Ultimate Bundle at JRRShop, also $39.  It's probably at other places, too.  I have no idea if there are additional discounts at JRRShop or anywhere else with codes.

It might pay to shop around at your favorite vendors for discounts and perks (as always).

  5. In my experience, it depends on how you have your computer, Windows, and Cakewalk setup and your usual workflow.  I use several customized Workspaces that have various Cakewalk UI elements (windows, panes, etc.) set up to meet different needs.  That way I just select a 2 monitor Workspace and I don't have to fiddle around.

Maybe you have it setup so you just need to undock the Console (or undock the Multidock) and then move it over and resize it on your second monitor.  Without knowing how you have things set up, that would be my first suggestion, sight unseen.

I have just applied the latest update as the prompt was becoming very insistant, even though there was nothing of interest to me in it.

I have now discovered the Markers module does not show a list of markers for you to select. There is only next, previous and add a marker.
Does anyone know how to get the module to offer the option to select which marker you wish to navigate to? (this is what was there before the update)

I use Menu Bar > Views > Markers

  7. Re: "Can't":  Some lyrics from Stinkfoot from the album "Apostrophe" (emphasis added

    Quote

    "It doesn't, and you can't
    I won't, and it don't
    It hasn't, it isn't, it even ain't
    And it shouldn't
    It couldn't!"

    CONTEXT:

    (Fido said)
"It should be easy to see
The crux of the biscuit is the Apostrophe"
Well, you know the man who was talkin' to the dog
Looked at the dog an' he said: (sort of staring in disbelief)
    "You can't say that!"
    He said:
    "It doesn't, and you can't
    I won't, and it don't
    It hasn't, it isn't, it even ain't
    And it shouldn't
    It couldn't!"

He told me "No no no!"
I told him "Yes yes yes"!
    I said: "I do it all the time;
    Ain't this boogie a mess!"

  8. NEWS STORY:

"Leonard Riggio, Barnes & Noble founder, dead at 83 - Leonard Riggio, Barnes & Noble founder and former chairman, died at 83"

    ONLINE COMMENT:

"I'm sorry that I won't be able to attend his funeral, I'm all booked up!"

Aside: Some people would say he was not the founder in the traditional sense.  True, he purchased the rights to the name in 1971, but the store was legendary in NYC long before 1971.

    Quote

Barnes & Noble's beginnings can be traced to 1873, when Charles M. Barnes started a book business from his home in Wheaton, Illinois. In 1917, his son, William, went to New York to join G. Clifford Noble in establishing Barnes & Noble. During the height of the Great Depression, what later became the Barnes & Noble flagship store was opened on Fifth Avenue at 18th Street in New York City. This store developed a worldwide reputation for excellence by serving millions of customers with its comprehensive selection of general trade books, academic titles and textbooks, and medical books.

In 1971, bookseller Leonard Riggio acquired the Barnes & Noble trade name and flagship bookstore in Manhattan, merging it with his own thriving bookselling business. Within a few years, he had grown the Barnes & Noble Fifth Avenue store in New York City into "The World’s Largest Bookstore," with 150,000 textbook and trade titles.

  9. Thanks. I have been having some issues lately, including with Augmented Yangtze but not the others; so, I hope all is well now!

UPDATE: Even the ASC needed to do an auto-update. Time to make another cup of tea and let Update All take its time.

I am on pins and needles though--a couple of months ago, GUI issues I have had with Pigments since early 2023 went away without explanation, possibly due to  UI changes related to / as a by product of previous Augmented (or other) changes.   I have been meaning to tell customer support that the issue they couldn't solve from 2023 to 2024 finally got fixed.  So, I am hoping the new fixes haven't re-crippled the graphics in Pigments like the early 2023 update did.  😞

Thanks guys ive moved to a different daw.

Best wishes, and thanks for raising the issue and for the replies that came in after Friday.

I downloaded the Yamaha software synth as suggested and tried it with some old (as in from last century!) midi files I purchased on a licensed, commercial Led Zeppelin 3.5" floppy disk.  The drums and some other sounds from the Yamaha were not as good as the TTS-1 and not as good as my memory of whatever my computer used last century (possibly a sound card chip), BUT: the lead guitar on the suggested Yamaha was great!!!!

Not sure I will reorchestrate it, but if I do, I'd use the TTS-1 as the base with the Yamaha on the guitar track.

    Hi All

Apologies if this is in the wrong category but I'm very new to cakewalk and I'm trying to add Musio. Is this possible if so any help would be very much appreciated

Welcome.  I don't use Musio, but I searched the forum and there seem to be a number of posts about it. Here's the link for the forum search I did. There is some very recent discussion that might be of interest to you.

Just saying, things like Ctrl+Z should always be undo no matter what view you're working in.

Unless I am mistaken there are unique things that belong to different views (and modes within those views) that can't use Ctrl+Z to undo what has just been done.

I will carve out some time this week to explore when I use Ctrl+Z.  IIRC I have run across differences when undo does and doesn't work when different windows had focus. Also IIRC some tasks are not undoable within a window when other tasks are undoable.  I will try to find some examples.

I'm not sure which uniqueness you're referring to. Mostly, there are conveniences that I like in some views that I'd like to have in other views, like scroll lock and fit horizontal. Fit data horizontally in Piano Roll would be handy, I think.

There are certain keystrokes and operations that should work the same way. There's no reason for the basics of cut, copy, select, paste, undo, zoom etc. not to be the same keystroke(s) in every view. Equivalent menus should be in the same place, same order, where applicable.

This last has long been a bugaboo of mine with Cakewalk/Sonar, especially the differences between Track View and Console View. Those two sets of menus look like they come from different programs. One has the "Track" menu, the other has the "Tracks" menu, Track Manager is even under different menus. Then there's the main menu, which is up above the TV menu but holds a number of operations that should really be down on the TV menu (like adding tracks, basically everything in the Insert menu and half of what's in the Project menu belong down in the Track View's own menu).

I'm known as the Konsistency Kop due to this in certain circles. There's usually no drawback to checking for consistency, and once something is in place, it's harder to change it without discomforting experienced users.

I guess it's just me, but after 6 years, I still get things mixed up as to which menus are where between TV and CV. You can add a new track from CV's "Track" menu, but not from TV's "Tracks" menu.

When things are (needlessly, IMO) mixed up like that, it makes it harder to memorize them. And IMO, it contributes to a feeling of roughness around the edges.

All views should share same commands when appropriate.  Differing commands/missing commands between views isn't cohesive and can be aggravating.

    Not this:

Y'know how in most Sonar views, activating Scroll Lock stops the view from scrolling?

It would be reaaaaaaaallly handy if that could also apply to the Event List.

For decades I have been opposed to symmetry, parallelism, etc. just for the sake of symmetry, parallelism, etc.  Some people want / need things to look alike, sound alike, be alike, behave alike, etc. for the benefit of their personal workflows.

As for the Event List needing Scroll Lock functionality, when I need to edit something, I stop / pause the playback.  I can respect that others might have a use for stopping the the movement while the music continues.

I just tried it here.  Scroll Lock does indeed stop the view from scrolling in the Event list view.

I never tried this until just now.  For me the song continued to play and the Event List continued to scroll.  Do I need to change any settings to get the SCRL LOCK key to pause just the event view display?
