does any one know of a free vst that can run stand alone without a daw so I can see if that recognises my inputs from midi keyboard?

Arturia has a free version of Analog Lab (Analog Lab Play). I know that the paid product comes with a standalone version that does not require a Host such as a DAW. Also some well-known software synth makers have trial versions of their software synths.  I am familiar with Cherry Audio's emulated instruments.  Again, I am not sure if the trials include standalone versions.

  2. Thanks for that link, @msmcleod.

    • After reverting MODO BASS 2 (to Version 2.0.2 from Version 2.0.3), back (to Version 2.0.3), and then checking some things, I found:
      • Version 2.0.3 uses a different folder/file arrangement
      • CbB did not automatically detect the change
        • Might be a problem for some people, not others depending on personal VSTScan choices/options
        • I do manual scans as needed
      • Doing a Rescan with "Rescan Failed Plugins" selected allowed CbB to (appropriately enough) rescan and find Version 2.0.3.

On Friday I used MODO BASS 2 to create a 16 bar drum pattern with improvised bass line test project.  It worked. So, not sure if the "Rescan Failed Plugins" option would help @Ricky Wayne Hunt, but I thought I'd mention it as a possibility.

I have multiple virtual instruments, each on their own track.  They are all responding to midi input from my Nektar keyboard. when I select ‘None’ on these tracks for Input, they remain on Omni, so obviously they can still ‘hear’ the midi input. Can’t figure out why None for input doesn’t mean none, it stays on Omni (ie. All).  In preferences, I also have the setting that means listen to the track that’s in focus.

How do I break the signal flow of Midi to tracks I don’t want responding? The track I want to respond is in focus, and the monitor button is active, and the track is responding as expected. But so are all the other tracks. Thanks.

Assign the output track widgets to single channels if you want a track to go to a single midi channel or monotimbral instrument (assuming the instrument itself is not set to omni mode). If you don't want a track to play you can mute it or set volume (CC7) or sometimes expression (CC11) to 0 if the instrument respects those CCs.

    newest synth is not included

Thanks for keeping track.  It gets wild when new products come out and they are not part of the current bundle/collection.

Hmmmm.  I just checked. I think it doesn't include the newest synth (Synthx V) and the newest augmented instrument (Augmented Yangtze) from what I can see from the website.

i guess my point is that they who control the forum would put in place technology that prevents the spam getting through in the first place, not just some unpaid mod hiding them

You might remember some discussions where at least one of the moderators and/or staff talked about fine tuning spam detection features/options.  My takeaway was there there is indeed spam detection but that some spam managed to get through and tweaks were then made in such a way as to not impede legitimate posts.

Sorry, but I have too much to do today to look up those posts, but I do remember them.

PS: BTW I am no so sure it is a good idea to advertise the spam detection algorithm.

    How do you report it?

On each message there are three dots in the upper right corner (unless you are zoomed in too much).  Click on that; select Report; choose Spam if you are sure its spam.

For languages I don't understand, I used Google's Translate feature with the Detect Language setting.

i've reported spam many many times over the years, but it's never made a difference 🤷‍♀️

That's odd.  I have always found someone has deleted the spam I reported and has removed the offenders' accounts.  Some times it even gets deleted before I am done reporting an account's spam.

AD comes with all of their kits.

      Umm... since when?

The difference is with Toontrack you have to pay $149 or so to get on the ground floor.

AD comes with all of their kits.

The sentence (AD comes with all of their kits.) is ambiguous. In context following the comment about Toontrack, the meaning is something like this:

    • When you get a Toontrack expansion, you have to have pay $149 or so to get on the ground floor. However, when you get an AD2 expansion, it includes the basic AD2 software.

With AD a kit comes with the engine.  Not so with Toontrack.

Alone "AD comes with all of their kits" implies something like this:

    • When you get AD2, it includes all of their kits with the purchase price.

They replaced the old download with a different one. The new one is 300kb smaller, but the content looks to be the same. You can install both, one will show up as FIRST, the other one as FIRST Free.

Yup.  The previous file I downloaded 3 days ago was named FIRST.  The new one is named FIRST+FREE. However, I am still getting the <Unlicensed IR> issue with the ReMatrix SOLO Presets, which used to work.

Maybe my version 2018.09 (Build 29, 64bit) of CW BandLab is outdated because there is no option under HELP  to log into Bandlab.

All I get is a pop up that tells me to activate via BandLab Assistant.

Also if I go to https://www.bandlab.com it will show my name so I think I am already logged in.

Is there a way to update CW BandLab without deleting anything?

You might want to try updating to the current version.  A lot has changed since 2018.09. I am on 2024.07 build 108.***

Sec.  I will try to get a link to the post with the latest version of CbB.**

BTW, I just logged out of CbB and logged back in as per @OutrageProductions advice and I successfully logged back in via the built-in "Sign in to Bandlab" link under Help.

**UPDATE:  Not sure if you have the Cakewalk Product Center. If so, that might be the best way to try updating.

***CLARIFICATION:  The Cakewalk Product Center verifies that I am "Up-to-date" with the latest version 2024.09 build 108. Not sure why mine says 2024.07. I will sort that out for my own PC.  Regardless, build 108 looks like the latest version of CbB available to us.

  11. I did a VST Rescan (I have Preferences set to Manual Scan), and (1) the ReMatrix Player looks different than it did before the scan, (2) some of my other freebies are missing, and (3) some of the strips for freebies that are there work but some say <Unlicensed IR>. Not sure if its related to other software I might have on my PC.
