I really like the Sonitus stuff and hope the Bakers can keep the really good ones, um , baked in...
-
Thanks Promidi. I think I did disable it but not positive. I ended up returning the card. Will stick with onboard graphics for now.
-
Baktrak, did you do a minimal install of your older Cakewalk/Sonar versions first (per that link I posted) and then install Cakewalk by Bandlab last?
-
I'd go with Lord Tim's advice - he knows waaaay more about Cakewalk than I probably ever will....
-
See if this helps: https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/topic/21834-how-to-get-all-vsts-running-on-new-pc/ If you install just Cakewalk By Bandlab you won't get some of the older stuff that came with previous versions of Cakewalk / Sonar.

Bleh. I installed the RTX3050 but am getting latency issue in LatencyMon that keeps pointing to the NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver. Driver is latest one. Will probably remove and return it. I guess onboard graphics are good enough...
-
Thanks all for the comments - sorry for my slow response - damn work keeps getting in the way... I'm going to "take the plunge" and order an RTX 3050 - but there are sooo many varieties! I'm going with the MSI Gaming GeForce card as referenced in one of my above posts. I'll post back when it is installed. Wish me luck!
-
Wow John! 12 year old PC still chugging along - you are definitely up for an upgrade :^) Thanks Jim. I'm getting the feeling that the benefits of a video card for Cakewalk are likely not worth the $ cost or possible latency issues (at least for me). I'm doing very basic Cakewalk projects (a few Kontakt instruments, some EZ Drummer, EZ Bass, etc. stuff with some effects). Still in learning mode for the most part. The MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 3050 8GB GDRR6 128-Bit HDMI/DP PCIe 4 Torx Twin Fans Ampere OC Graphics Card (RTX 3050 Ventus 2X 8G OC) at Amazon looks like a possibility (link: RTX-3050 at Amazon), but the fans scare me (noise?!) and not sure it will be compatible with my system or introduce any latency issues, etc. - I'm not well versed in graphics cards at all.
-
Thanks for the recommendations! Video Cards are so complex! Not sure if I'll try one or just stay with internal graphics. Will post back if I take the plunge. Comments from anyone with real-world experience with a particular card welcomed!

Note: This is cross-posted from https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/forum/42-computer-systems/ I'm currently using on board Intel Graphics and am thinking of going with a dedicated video card. Noise is a pet peeve of mine, so that likely limits my choices. Not a gamer at all - this PC is for music only. Was looking at the AMD Radeon Pro WX 7100 100-505826 8GB 256-bit GDDR5 Video Card https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N8XS96E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3KHIT95AWLP4N&psc=1 Any opinions? Would this improve performance? Though I'm not really having any issues, it seems like graphics could be better in Cakewalk. I'm likely going to add a 3rd monitor or TV, so some of the options I saw above won't work. Any other (quiet!) cards anyone can recommend? Band in a Box to help with writing?
Salvatore Sorice replied to Salvatore Sorice's topic in The Coffee House
Just an FYI to anyone following this thread. Groove3.com has some excellent tutorials on BiaB. It's a subscription site, but they have so much useful content that I am on there regularly. If anyone knows of other similar sites, please let me know! -
Band in a Box to help with writing?
Salvatore Sorice replied to Salvatore Sorice's topic in The Coffee House
Thanks all for your insightful (inciteful? :^) comments! Looking forward to getting my Audiophile OminPAK and learning BiaB! My hope is that I can use it to generate ideas / base arrangements and then bring those into Cakewalk and further refine the tracks. No idea what can be done to manipulate RealTracks. For MIDI tracks, I assume you could swap out instruments, etc. on imported MIDI tracks (to utilize Kontakt, EZ Drummer, EZ Bass, etc.) I've got so much to learn! -

Russell, I'm heading in the same direction. Looking to use BiaB to help get things going (or use it to add to an existing idea), then move the tracks (either WAV or MIDI) into Cakewalk to process/tweak further. I'm looking forward to getting the Audiophile OmniPAK that I just ordered and learning more about what BiaB can offer/do. Will be posting more as I learn about the program. I'm a classically trained pianist and am pretty good at keyboards, but my vocals are mediocre. May have to reach out to community members for help polishing my ideas into an acceptable finished song :^) -

Just an FYI... Got what I thought was a very good price on Audiophile OmniPAK edition. PG Music site has it for $869. Got it at egenisis.com (legitimate reseller) for $692 (Their price of $769 - 10% coupon for giving them an email address as first time buyer). -

I'd rather have WAV than MP3 so Audiophile sounds like the better option. -

Thanks John Maar. Not concerned with drive space (have over 6TB of internal NVMe and SSD storage). They send the Audiophile edition on a hard drive (how quaint!), so I'll just copy it to an internal drive. -

Thanks Notes_Norton! I'll likely get the Audiophile Edition so I have both MIDI and Real options. BiaB looks very powerful, but the interface seems complicated and cluttered, but, as an IT Professional I'm sure I can muddle through. Any tutorials, etc that you or anyone else can point me to would be much appreciated! -
I got a message to update to Melodyne 5.3.1

Working fine for me. -

Thanks Grem! That approach was what I envisioned - give BiaB some chords, etc., audition a few styles, etc and see how it sparks my imagination. -

Thanks Bapu! I appreciate the offer, but I'll probably just buy a new license as a new user if I go the BiaB route. Curious - was it wonky in Cakewalk, or in another DAW? -

Thanks for the comments! I agree with Mark (msmcleod) that BiaB would be great for inspiration, ideas, etc. mettelus - I'm an all-in and impatient type (ask my wife :^), so I'll likely just get the top-of-the-line Audiophile OmniPAK and take the 30 day trial time period to see if it works for me. More opinions welcome! Just an FYI - BiaB support told me the Audiophile OmniPAK comes on a (full) 2TB drive - but it is a Hard Drive - as in spinning platters? Yikes! I'd definitely transfer everything to one of the SSD or NVMe drives in my Music PC - something to consider for anyone else thinking of getting the Audiophile OmniPAK, or even some of their other offerings that ship on a disk. -
I'm a keyboard player, songwriter, crappy singer. Climbing the steep learning curve of Cakewalk, Toontrack (EZ Drums, Bass), Kontakt, etc. Sometimes I get stuck/frustrated and just want to WRITE! Am intrigued by Band in a Box, and am thinking it might help me flesh out song ideas that I could import into Cakewalk, ie, the WAV files as tracks, per this very informative video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnLgxF-LifE I'm an all-or-nothing type, so was thinking of taking the plunge on their "2023 OmniPAK Audiophile Edition by PG Music Inc. for Windows". Looks like it has everything, and I can get it for $782 (they offered me a 10% discount from $869. Opinions? Anybody using it as a writing aide? Are the tracks BiaB creates high quality enough to actually use in a final version of an amateur's song?

Thanks sjoens - that worked! Someday I'll have to learn more about theme editor! -

sjoens, Not very good with Themes (other than picking them in Preferences!). Those icons are nice, but it is just an image. Not sure where I can get them or how to add them to a theme. Any guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
