Cakewalk - Enabled a weird option that drives me crazy
John Vere replied to Storm Productions Music's question in Q&A
I really don’t know what you’re referring to because I don’t know what you have done. It seems you’re trying to do things in an unorthodox manner. As I said normally you put audio effects in the effects bin which can be turned on and off. Or you use a send to an effect buss. Or you use the pro channel which also can be turned on and off I am not familiar with an effect feature or was I aware there is such a feature as VST editing mode? Ya, you can change VST effect settings using the GUI,> So somehow I have a feeling your question is hard to answer because you are possibly using an incorrect term for what your trying to do. Possibly you have just toggled a keyboard shortcut that opened the envelope editing tool. Usually using Undo will fix stuff. If not re start the project. Your screen shot is of too small a section of the track to know what else could be happening. All I see is a envelope in the second shot. There are lots of different envelopes the blue colour would tell me what it is if I go and look, but it's possibly an effects automation? Is this your mystery VST editing mode? Just delete it in the envelope lane -

So I’m seeing a stereo track because you probably have used the rendering to apply the effects. That’s not a great idea because it is destructive editing Put the effects in the effects bin. Or create a effects buss and the all your vocal tracks can share the same set up I cover this in this video -

Those are volume envelopes. Not at my computer so can’t give details. But here’s a good way to learn what icons are for. Open the help module and point the mouse at a icon or widget. The help module will tell you what it does The term VST is used for both audio effects and soft synth instruments. What are you trying to use? If that track is vocals it should be a mono track as well. -
Seems you were already told not to use asio4all and use WASAPI follow this video for correct audio settings

Harmonisation (either manually or VST)

It’s actually very easy in Melodyne I do this a lot For live best to buy a pedal. I’ve not tried it but I think my TC Voice Live pedal can create 4 parts. -
Exported tracks all have project length??
John Vere replied to kzmaier's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Didn’t work for me. Tried twice. And it doesn’t go through the master so not what I need anyhow. -
Exported tracks all have project length??
John Vere replied to kzmaier's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I don’t see a way. With all the track export settings you get the longest track for all. Seems only clips could be used but what is the point of that? If I want a clip I can drag it from the audio folder. They hopefully will put a little more work into this one. As the tracks export they are soloed so it doesn’t seem a stretch of programming to me that it could automatically detect the end of the track and move on. I could see that all tracks involved would need to be bounced so there’s no breaks and spaces in them. But I could live with that because mostly I’m thinking that if this did work properly you could easily assemble an album of songs in a dedicated project set up for final mastering. I tried it once but I still had to trim the endings of all the songs in a wave editor. -
Movie Studio (Vegas?) has a auto save that seems invisible and works really well for me. It must be a default setting as I’ve never set it up. But just last night I managed to freeze it up and had to close using task manager. To my surprise when I restarted I had only lost about 5 minutes of editing. This topic made me think that I need to actually look into the settings and find out what they are.

Exported tracks all have project length??
John Vere replied to kzmaier's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Well it didn’t work for me because I have to select the tracks thru mix as I need them to have gone through the master buss. I used Select None and the tracks are all the same length still. Not a problem for this project but disappointing if I was wanting to actually do an album assembly. I like the new export dialogue but it doesn’t seem to do much more than the old one for me. And the fact that there is no MP3 settings must suck for some people. -
You play them with a soft synth Once you find the sound you want you can freeze the track. This creates an audio file which you could then re use elsewhere

I think in the computer world that there’s mouse people and keyboard people. I’m definitely a mouse person. I have to force my self to remember keyboard shortcuts are probably faster . But are they. So by nature my right hand and the mouse pointer flys to the file menu and hits save in a nanosecond long before my brain realizes I’ve done it and could have given my left hand something to do. I just can’t do two key stoke commands because I’d have to let go of the mouse and my world would fall apart. But I’m learning. It hurts to use my right hand right now because I just had my right shoulder full replacement. I’m in a sling. So I’ve been trying to learn more keyboard stuff. Trying to use a mouse left handed goes as well as trying to play a guitar that way.

A Tascam US 600 is probably the same vintage as my us 1641, as I see the driver was last updated in 2014. I haven't hooked mine up for a long time but it was working great with W10 and CbB last time I did. I'll hook it up tonight if I get a minute and see if it's still OK. You can still use the speakers but don't use the USB, hook them up normally with patch cables from your interface. Update: my Tascam just ran all night without any issues I’m all updated both windows andCbB Seems your driver should still be fine too if made by same team The M1 Specs: USB 1.1 audio interface - 1.1? that's gotta be totally obsolete for W10 16-Bit / 48 kHz recording and playback 16 bit's even dates it more this also means you cannot use with a 44.1 Cakewalk project. Pro-grade 1/4" plugs and standard RCA jacks Works with iPad via Apple USB Adaptor (sold separately) TRS Headphone output Two 1/4” phone jacks inputs This is what makes them still something usable in the modern world. You would use these connected to your audio interface. Stereo 1/8” TRS mini-jack input Or this if you were using on Board audio. Stereo RCA inputs 1/8” TS output to passive speaker ho! lets power up our PA speakers with this 10 watt Class X amp Har har. Switchable power supply Magnetically shielded for placement near TV and computer monitors This product is class compliant; it does not require drivers that sucks but nobody would dream of using this as an audio interface anyhow.

At the time I was blaming it on my beloved 32 bit MrTramp. I stopped using it but have since opened and worked on many projects that have it with out issues. I only use the tts1 as a opener for download midi files and in my tutorials. But it still lurks in older projects and not aware that it has ever crashed. But I have had the issue we’re it crashes a busy project if you try and add it later on. no loss. If I find it in an older project i replace it immediately which is always an improvement

There was a time back a few years ago (5?) when Cakewalk was crashing for lots of people if you didn’t save it after so many changes. They seem to have fixed that. But back then I just saved every 10 minutes or so. I thought auto save would be the answer but I still got crashes and then I would be lucky to figure out where and what had been recovered. My folder became very messy with copies. I found it easy to just save. I think I used ctrl S But I haven’t had Cakewalk crash for a long time so I’ve gotten careless and go hours with out saving. I need to stop doing that ?

Exported tracks all have project length??
John Vere replied to kzmaier's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
So is this using Select None? Funny as that used to be my habit in the past prior to whenever it was the Export widget was added. After that export always worked perfectly with out fuss. Glad I read this as I’ve been recording my narration for my tutorials in 20 to 50 second takes. I end up with 14 to 20 tracks all different lengths. These then match up to the screen capture segments. Gives me time to set up for the next scene. A big thumbs up to the new Export Dialogue. I was impressed with how easy it was to export these into a nice folder all numbered correctly. I actually expected them to all be as long as the longest track. Good to know I can fix that Thanks. -
I guess the new ones are 3 now.

Well .. yet another 1 post wonder anyhow

Thanks for the positive feedback. I just posted another that’s all about setting up your VST’s.

I ‘m sorry I don’t have an answer mostly because I never would use sound on sound. To me that’s a bizarre choice. A hold over from tape days. I always use overwrite and rarely use the lanes. I have a USB foot switch that is programmed with W and R and Space. But if I do use them I use a new lane for each take. I can see that if you use S on S then that would create layers all on the same track? I thought they automatically went to the next track? The whole concept of the lanes is the visual of your takes. All I can think to say is try recording using more than one track or lane as it is.
-
Go to the documentation found in the help menu and read the section on using take lanes. Once you understand them it’s not hard to do what you are wanting. As well as there is probably a bunch of tutorial videos made. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbiRKPYderY https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Arranging.48.html

Sorry nobody seems to have answered so this will bump it back to the top. I personally have no experience with setting up a control surface but there are others who do. Defiantly a weird one. What I see in the screen shot is the track is soloed but all the meters on other tracks are active which I don’t think they should be.
-
Not with Motu. Support was very clear about using a dedicated USB3 port.

I don’t have a Roland but I use a Yamaha kit. They are all the same watch this video which covers the details of troubleshooting midi issues
