non record Gap in punch in punch out red highlight
John Vere replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
It never occurred to me to use auto punch with Midi? I guess I’ve always just ignored bad notes if played and easily fix in PVR. If I make a royal mess of a track part way through I actually use my handy dandy R button on my controller or my foot switch if it’s hooked up. But this is the thing! You have to hit the record button BEFORE you start playing the new part. I’ll put my money on that is the reason why the blank space. There could be midi delay involved too. It’s pretty common to have people coming here complaining all their Midi notes are recorded earlier and have to be nudged forward. PDC. So you are actually playing in perfect time but the system plunked the note back in the point before the recording started. -
TwelveTone systems' Cakewalk Professional 3 on wine
John Vere replied to MusicInstructor.net's topic in Feedback Loop
I don’t know if the Op will even return they only came here that one day and started 2 threads with same topic. But reading the excellent answers posted here I hope they see that what they are going through is nothing new. Most of us cut our Midi chops on the original software of the 80’s. And probably each and every one of us had a great workflow on software X at one time or another but had to reluctantly move on or be left in the dust. Had to snicker at the offering the money to pay the Cakewalk team. I did once pay for a personal software improvement. I paid Jeff Kofftinoff a few hundred bucks to add the foot controller via Atari joystick port for me. He was a local software writer later working for Roland and an Editor for the MT 32.- 32 replies

TwelveTone systems' Cakewalk Professional 3 on wine
John Vere replied to MusicInstructor.net's topic in Feedback Loop
We all hate changing our workflow. I started on an Atari and KCS by Dr T. That was an all event list sequencer no piano roll. When my Atari died in about 2004 I was “forced “ to change my workflow to Cakewalk and the PVR. Sure at first it was slow and I didn’t understand nothing but now when I open the Event list in Cakewalk I’m 100% glad I don’t have to use it. All improvements and workflow enhancements are within the PVR not the outdated event list or the staff views. So your basically on your own if you choose not to update your workflow. I can actually fire up my old XP computer and run STeam Atari emulation and KCS still works but it would be sort of pointless. So that’s your best option. If you want to stay in the past it’s best to keep the Computers from that era going.- 32 replies

I understand the request and can see that it would be handy but honestly I just set my punch in point and then one mouse click puts the now time a few bars ahead. I do this with out even thinking about it. If they added the feature I would use it for sure but it would make little difference other than that one mouse click

By definition a Master bus is an Audio bus that is the last in the signal path before it goes to your monitoring system as well as usually the source for exported audio files. . Midi tracks on there own do not make sound, so a MIdi master bus would be silent. Midi needs to be sent to an instrument track or outboard hardware. If you have a bunch of midi instruments in a project ( audio source) you can create sub buses that the intruments output is assigned to. So the real question is what are you trying to achieve?

Do other VST's work, like test with SI drums and hit a kit piece. Do you hear any other sound from the project like the metronome?
-
Not exactly sure what you are trying to do? I’ll assume you have a multi track recording of a concert that is continuous for a certain duration and you want to apply different mixes to each song? There are many approaches to how to deal with this. Yes you could simply keep it as one long project and use automation to mix each song. Or what I do is split each song into it’s own project. It depends on what was recorded and what the end recording is used for.

Open the track manager and see if there’s hidden tracks. Hard to tell by your screen shot. Would be better if you showed the track pane and not the video view or bus pane

Originaly recorded in around 1998 but it just didn;t fit in on my latest album for obvious reasons of quality. I had made this video with the help of my Grandson a few years ago so I've just replaced the soundtrack.

General Windows Question of Interest with Cakewalk
John Vere replied to Sridhar Raghavan's question in Q&A
The big difference for me is the Windows key doesn’t close dialogue boxes when pressed. The Alt key usually does. And yes the dual monitor capture is not an issue for me I shouldn’t have said problem. I rarely need it in the capture but I always crop every screenshot anyway to get rid of the clutter -
Migrating from Sonar to Cakewalk
John Vere replied to Joseph Kesselman's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
And to add there’s been hundreds of bug fixes and improvements. Most of us still have Sonar Platinum installed just to get the plug ins that were included. I even have 8.5. Each version is individual and can’t harm the older versions. It’s no different than installing Cubase and using it too -
The point is, why bother answering to a thread the OP has abandoned.

Dowsampling question (integer vs non-integer ratio)
John Vere replied to Jakub's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Interesting info. I sort of thought this myself and have never doubted that Cakewalk probably used good convertion. Also Interesting that the Op left the building even though it shows they logged on 10 hours ago? -
Solution to lag time- Ditch all VST intruments and the effects they are using and convert the tracks to audio. This is very easy to do and there are a few options. What I do is export the entire project as stems ( Tracks through entire mix ) and use that to create pure audio versions for all my songs. , then, not only will it load faster, but it will be generally 100% dependable forever. No twigging out on you because something changed about a VST licence or an update. I've been using backing tracks since 1984. First live Midi through hardware and then I switched to stereo backing tracks using Mini Disk ( digital format) in the mid 90's. Now I just export my backing tracks as a stereo mix from Cakewalk using a system where all 150 + songs are mastered and mixed identically. I playback on a little Netbook using WIn Amp and a foot controller. I can start the next song as the last one was fading out,, and with my foot. Hand never leaves guitar. I have started on a project to set up some shows where I do use Cakewalk instead because I need live midi for lighting and effects control. As well as I might have more musicians playing with me so will use the 4 outputs to manage that. It's also nice to run the bass track direct to a bass amp.

General Windows Question of Interest with Cakewalk
John Vere replied to Sridhar Raghavan's question in Q&A
Actually one of the problems with Windows/prntscrn is it does take a screenshot of both monitors. But because I have a shortcut to the screenshot picture folder on my desktop it’s real easy to take the shot, open the folder, open with the default picture viewer which I have set to using “Photos “. Which has some basic editing tools built in like crop. -
General Windows Question of Interest with Cakewalk
John Vere replied to Sridhar Raghavan's question in Q&A
It was introduced with Windows 8 I think. I used to use ALT/ Prtscrn which saved to One Drive or to DropBox. I accidentally pressed Windows/prtscrn one day and it certainly made it easier. -
I now re reading your post- it sounds like your having to have input echo on to hear an instrument. Is this correct ? Or are you saying the track needs to be in focus? If you open the instrument property page can you preview the sound?

General Windows Question of Interest with Cakewalk
John Vere replied to Sridhar Raghavan's question in Q&A
If you press the Windows key and PRT Screen It saves a screen shot to your Picture Folder and then I open them with the windows photo viewer. you can edit the pictures real fast. Mostly I just crop them. I still prefer using Paint to add text but you can draw arrows or circle things in the default Windows Photo view -
Possibly you are doing things in a none standard way. Follow these tutorials to see how Cakewalk works Normally.
