Basically what you want doesn't exist outside of the software you seem to like using. Why not just use that? And in my world still the best way to learn to sing is to take vocal lessons that will teach you how to control your voice. Singing along with pre recorded vocals will not help you improve much. And looking at pitch is not a very good idea. You need to learn how to Hear pitch. You should have your eyes closed and concentrate on not just pitch but timber and vibrato and all the other things that make your voice what it is. You do the voice training lessons and then practice songs that are suitable to your voice. I can sing over 300 songs. There are defiantly more songs I cannot sing than ones I can. Of course you can learn to sing without proper training too, but that takes longer and you might develop bad habits. There's a lot of real good videos on singing most are free. If the first thing they don't teach you is breathing, move on to the next one.

studio instruments Save patterns from studio instruments
John Vere replied to Offbeat70's topic in Instruments & Effects
@abacab just did an excellent job of translating what the question really was. The question should have read. “ How do I use the patterns”? -
When switching HP on in ProCh. EQ I get boost in volume - a bug?
John Vere replied to Wojtek Stecyszyn's question in Q&A
And you should always have a peak limiter on the master anyway so little things like that really won’t matter. I use the Loud Max set at -1.0 db. It seems to be the most transparent and effective. Then I use the You Lean loudness meter and Span to analyze it. I personally expect anything I toss in the signal path to have some sort of interference with the audio. That’s why I don’t go crazy with effects. -
CW freezes when Input Echo is engaged
John Vere replied to Michael McBroom's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Just for clarification ASIO 4all is not ASIO it is actually WDM mode in a wrapper that makes it look like ASIO but it’s performance is just as bad as WDM. WASAPI modes both outperform WDM. Only a proper well written ASIO driver will report the system latency to Cakewalk and then Cakewalk adjusts the recording sync so that your new audio recordings line up perfectly with the project. I think there’s a lot of people out there using on board or badly designed interfaces, like USB mikes, that are totally unaware of this. Possibly they don’t hear it. I sure do. 1/16 note is very noticeable. -

John Vere replied to Michael McBroom's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
OH, so your using WASAPI instead of ASIO? I can see why if your trying to use another Audio device but I hate to tell you this but WASAPI has a few issues. First and foremost is it will record all audio tracks about 1/16 note late. At least on my system this was the case when I did a loopback test. And it is probably why your having the issue So simple test is to set it back on ASIO mode and see if the problem goes away. Nothing to loose and everything to gain. EDIT: Good I see you did this we were typing the same time Funny I'm just in the process of making a new Tutorial titled " Other Audio Devices" where I am demonstrating using things thaat don't really work with Cakewalk like bad ASIO drivers, USB mikes and guess what, a Guitar amp with a USB connection. -
[SOLVED]Problem with porting Projects to another PC
John Vere replied to Heinz Hupfer's question in Q&A
I edited my first post as it was based on thinking these were 2 identical Steinberg interfaces. I have 3 different interfaces a Tascam, Scarlett and a Motu. They have different input configurations but all have 4 analog outs plus the Tascam and Scarlett have 5/6 as digital. I used to use the digital a lot when using my Yamaha O1v mixer. So I have a lot of old projects that use that on the 5/6 outputs on the Master bus. I just recently got the Motu and sure enough if I open one of those old projects I get the silent bus warning. But the Tascam and Scarlett have never had issues with outputs getting messed up. I haven’t used the mixer for a while because it’s only 44.1 so I always have to think for a minute when I hear no output when opening one of those projects. Not a problem because I immediately convert them to 48 before I even play them. But I can only guess that every brand of interfaces talks to Cakewalk differently and not surprised that the order could change if the names are weird like that. Mine are all 1/2. 3/4. 5/6. For all devices. The Scarlett has these DAW 1 etc that are part of using the Mix Control software. They are always last on the list The Motu has Loopback outputs that also are always last on the list -
What I find amusing is the number of people on Facebook who try Cakewalk, get hung up on something that is 100% pilot error and say screw this I’m going to buy my DAW! It will obviously be better! I don’t feel sorry for stupid people but those posts actually make me laugh and be proud I’m not stupid!

CW freezes when Input Echo is engaged
John Vere replied to Michael McBroom's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
First there’s no reason to use input echo on Audio tracks. You should use the interface direct monitoring feature. I have the M4. If I use the input echo that’s exactly what I get, an echo. This is because you’re hearing the audio system latency which will be around 10 milliseconds. I set the input monitor control at 12 o clock or sometimes around 10 o clock if I want my vocals a bit louder than the track playback. But that said there’s no reason you can’t turn it on. Make sure all the settings are correct in preferences. ASIO and your buffer settings etc. -
How to hold notes in SI-String Section
John Vere replied to Don Cobb's topic in Instruments & Effects
The information about how to do this is very easy to access. I gave you the link to the videos and all aspects of cakewalk are easily found in the documentation. It’s fine to get stuck on something you can’t figure out from watching the tutorials and looking in the documentation then ask a question. But drawing midi notes is very very basic stuff. I even gave the answer in my post from April. Please follow up and try the tutorials and documentation. Cakewalk is complicated and needs instructions -
Video #17 explains how to include the metronome in the export. It’s not that easy to do. If you’re new to Cakewalk the whole series will be very helpful to you getting started.

If you’re new to Cakewalk these videos are made just for you. They cover all the basics starting with setting up your audio system. # 17 is about the metronome.

Tutorial # 4 explains how the newer versions of Cakewalk handle saving projects. You might be interested in the whole series to bring yourself up to speed using the new features . The basic stuff hasn’t changed that much but enough things have to require a refresher course

[SOLVED]Problem with porting Projects to another PC
John Vere replied to Heinz Hupfer's question in Q&A
Not that it should matter but is this the same interface you are moving back and forth or do you own 2 of the exact same interfaces? It should be fine that there is a greyed out interface. I have that with my Tascam showing greyed out when using my Motu. I always thought it was odd my Scarlett doesn’t show like that too. I would still try reinstalling the drivers just in case updating Windows or ever Cakewalk has caused a weird glitch deep inside the system. It can’t hurt and only takes a minute. -
[SOLVED]Problem with porting Projects to another PC
John Vere replied to Heinz Hupfer's question in Q&A
Edit: What I say below was based on thinking this was 2 identical interfaces so I was wrong and please disregard. The below would possibly be true if you used 2 identical interfaces and drivers. That shouldn’t happen. Are you sure you are using the exact same driver version. I would try re install of the most up to date drivers on both machines. Make sure all the numbers match. And make sure there’s no other drivers interfering. Like the Steinberg generic driver that gets installed with their software. -
Unable to install Melodyne from bandlab assistant
John Vere replied to Sonified Music's question in Q&A
I see. I guess the unintended mistake was that updating Cakewalk would cause the demo mode system they just introduced to kill Melodyne 4 completely. It’s not that expensive to get the Essential version which is all most of us need. It goes on sale in November Black Friday deals time I think for $50. I got the Assistant version for $99. If you create a Celemony account you get the emails on deals -
Cakewalk Playback Sounds Change When Playing Recoded Sound
John Vere replied to Supunthaka Sashintha's question in Q&A
Yes this could also be true because some are so funky they don’t support multiple clock rates. Be interesting to know the make and model. -

Cakewalk Playback Sounds Change When Playing Recoded Sound
John Vere replied to Supunthaka Sashintha's question in Q&A
USB mikes that don’t come with ASIO drivers rarely work with Cakewalk. They are designed for Podcasting not recording. Even if it works the tracks will record very late on the timeline. Best bet is to try WASAPI mode and see it sounds better. But in the end if you are wishing to record vocals or guitar you will need a proper audio interface and mike. -
Unable to install Melodyne from bandlab assistant
John Vere replied to Sonified Music's question in Q&A
Cakewalk has its own installer now so check the website. You no longer need the Bandlab Assistant. Melodyne is a demo and after 1 month you need to create an Account with Celemony and purchase a license. It has its own installer that has nothing to do with Cakewalk. -
Midi routing to what ever instrument track is selected (??)
John Vere replied to Scott Kendrick's question in Q&A
So have you tried disabling midi outputs on all your VST’s? That’s the only way any stray midi data would find it’s way back into a project. I personally have never had this happen and I’m not sure about the inputs reverting to all but there was talk of this before so you might be right about a bug. Possibly the reason I’ve never had a Midi Loopback is all my Midi Outputs in preferences are always disabled. And I don’t think any of the synths I use have Midi outputs enabled. -
Buzzing/clicking/feedback noise when changing volume quickly
John Vere replied to timid's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Ok glad you are using WASAPI mode now. Make sure ASIO4ALL is not still installed. Check it is not your device in sync and caching. But your issue sound more like an audio glitch which might be caused by using a low buffer setting. Try increasing your buffer. You might have to use WASAPI exclusive mode to activate the buffer settings. It is often greyed out in shared mode. -

I'm reluctant to respond as you abandoned 2 other threads with the same issue already. So not sure if you watched my video on proper audio set up. If you didn't and you are still using Asio4all we need to fix that before we can help you. 1-Audio Set up Complete instructions https://youtu.be/JM8rKHQ9GIo
