[FIXED] Cakewalk hangs after Windows update

Jacques Boileau

Question

I just rebooted my PC and I got the updating screen from Windows which means an update was installed.

Now when I start Cakewalk and load a project, even just starting the basic project, the cursor is always going to the wait round cursor. I cannot do anything in Cakewalk, the UI is unresponsive. Using task manager I can see that that Cakewalk has the mention 'Not responding' next to it and there is an application called crashpad_handler.exe with it. Is this a known problem? Any insight on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

One thing I always do after a Windows update (after the restart), is:

1. Open up an admin PowerShell session (Windows Key + X, then press A )
2. Enter the following:

sfc /scannow

About 50% of the time, there's some corruption it has to sort out.

It's also a good idea to do this before you do an update too.
