About Me

  1. Because you asked: the ability to theme CbB is a very strong reason why I am still using it today. I have two themes I use and neither of them are Tungsten or Mercury. I'll wait and see what the future holds for theming Sonar before giving a final answer, of course 🙂
  2. https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/search/&type=forums_topic&tags=theme&search_and_or=or&sortby=newest
  3. Most of my themes were developed a couple of years ago when I was taking a break from full-time work. I have a full-time job now and any spare time I have (not enough!) is devoted to music making, not theme editing. To be honest, if you can't find an existing theme that makes you comfortable enough in the UI to use the program, then you're probably not going to be happy with one that is as close as possible to the screenshots you posted. And I am a fan of that look-and-feel. It's like a half-way point between Sonar 8.5 and the "skylight" interface they put together for Sonar X1. I know you're joking, but seriously if I had the time I would not take your money, it would be for the fun and challenge. Good themes take time and effort.
  4. I get that you're looking for Black Text on White Background.. does this mean that the default Tungsten theme doesn't work for you? It is pretty good high-contrast, the only "problem" is that it is Bright-On-Dark. Is that out of the question for your visual impediment? Just curious.
  5. Give FLAT WHITE a try. It's not extreme contrast but might be close to what you need. Now I have this urge to create an extreme contrast - but usable - theme. I wish I had more time!
  6. Well, that's a sexy theme.
  7. I'm not sure what I'm looking at... apart from the beautiful theme, of course
  8. How did I miss this discussion? I would have contributed, but I see it has gone off the rails all by itself, without help. We're blessed to have the Theme Editor and "fix" things real good.
  9. I've been using this theme all weekend and I love it. Is it perfect? Well, that's subjective. It's really nice, and I like most of the aesthetic choices, very much. Recommended.
  10. I recommend having this discussion in the UI Themes forum. Are you sure the problem persists between fresh launches of the application? There are some visual theme characteristics that don't refresh perfectly unless you re-open Cakewalk.
  11. Well, here's a challenge. I haven't found it yet. The KNOB is obvious but the elongated oval background graphic remains elusive. Also interested in the value text - I suspect these can't be changed in the Theme Editor. Note that these don't appear unless the Synth Rack is un-docked. Thanks @sjoens for the challenge...
  12. Page 123 of this document may help you out. There are some colours that can't be altered, and it looks like you've encountered some of them. Oh - and, nice theme!
  13. Is that equivalent to re-opening Cakewalk, or does it still have the problem where some theme elements aren't refreshed correctly in the UI? Not meaning to be "that guy" but curious.
  14. Hi there, welcome to the forum. Themes don't completely replace the existing graphics of Cakewalk; they just give it a "flavor". So, your expectations of what is possible through Cakewalk theming may not be met. I did a quick comparison between the latest "Logical" theme and some screen-shots of Apple Logic, and I think it would be possible to get closer to Logic's look and feel, particularly in the area of the Control Bar. But it would be a lot of work, and wouldn't change the basic widget shapes and placement from what they are in Cakewalk. I recommend trying a few different themes and switching between them, and you'll soon get an appreciation of what is possible, and what is not. "Same spouse, different clothes" is one way of putting it (okay I read that on a forum somewhere and it stuck with me)
  15. @Starship KrupaWait, what? You've recanted the heretical Turny Triangle creed? Oh, I see. retained it for folder expansion. Okay. I can accept that. Still not fan of the hamburger, but, again, I see where you're coming from. This is a very nice looking theme. Seeing it come to life here, I think I will change what I'm doing with the Mix Module button polarity. Re: Mix Module: Mouse-over on Read Automation doesn't behave the same way as FX and PDC. Intentional? Re: Show/Hide Bus Pane An extra line below the triangle? Why?
  16. Ah, the humble Mercury theme. The first, and some might say, the most boring. It doesn't get a lot of love, does it? Not since Tungsten arrived on the scene as the default Cakewalk theme. Here is a version of Mercury with many of the tweaks and polishing for consistency and clarity, including some not seen before, all without violating the Mercury-nature. Ideally, if you use this theme, you won't even notice the changes. Here is Mercury - the Revised Standard edition. Mercury_RS.zip What are the changes? Skylight: Dock/Undock icon for Inspector/Browsers Track View: Synth/Instrument Track Icon Swap Ruler +/- Take Lane +/- Scroll Bar Zoom, flyout Pre/Post Send Phase Folder Open/Close triangle Track Pane Expand/Contract Synth Rack: Delete Synth (uses a - instead of x) Control Bar Mix Module: Button polarity/clarity Control Bar Transport: Record Button Text, for clarity Console View: Pre/Post Send Synth/Instrument Track Icon Swap Console Lock/Unlock linked channels Level Meter Backgrounds for clarity Step Sequencer: Expand/Contract button no longer looks like "play" Delete Row (- instead of x)
  17. Nice! Beat me to it, @Starship Krupa I volunteer to create Mercury RS. (Although, Blue Ice is pretty damn close... I'll start there) Then we can compare and cross-pollinate. Ideally we can agree and incorporate suggestions from the community without experiencing multiple schismatic sects. "EVA01 IS THE ONE TRUE THEME, ACCEPT NO OTHERS"
  18. This was maybe the second theme I worked on, so it's not surprising it's missing a few tweaks. If only there were more hours in a day, and more days in a week.
  19. I realize that for everyone the end goal would be different, but I'm very tempted to create a Mercury-Fixed and Tungsten-Fixed (King James Revised Standard) that incorporates all the tweaks and "corrections" that theme designers have introduced over the years, . I know I have some... and @Starship Krupa even more. How far is too far? Do you think we could agree on which to include, and what they should look like? Pre-Post button Instrument/VST icon reversal Console Link Lock button Expand/Contract panel iconograpy Add/Remove iconography Dock/Undock/Options Record Button Text (OVR/SOS/STEP) -- this is a controversial but personal favorite Track Phase (not sure if this is a thing) I'm sure there's more but I'm not at my DAW right now...
  20. I re-saved the theme to remove the change warning in 2021.12. Updated (and renamed) the ZIP file. Enjoy!

  22. I guess my post was ambiguous, sorry about that. I meant to inform that a) the theme hasn't changed, because b) it should work out-of-the-box with 2021.12.
  23. I didn't update this theme. The current version should work fine with 2021.12. It does not customize the Folder Archive indicator button.
  24. I updated the ZIP for 2021.12 UI change, even though I know there's another version out there also being updated. Neither of these are official from the original theme designer, we just like to keep a current copy around and available...
