This is dripping with soul! This really hits me on a visceral level in a good way. Congrats!
  2. Stunning! Songs like this raise the bar higher. I hope you guys do more work together.
  3. This is an excellent example of what I call a cerebral song. It's very clever on several levels, and your vocal delivers the goods. I wish I could say as much for the horns. The arrangement is good, but the performance doesn't quite get past the awkward stage in that one section. Otherwise, thumbs up.
  4. Lovely guitar work! I love that lush reverb and your nuanced performance.
  5. Very good, Nigel! I'm putting you on my Christmas list.

    Mr. Sandman

I like the way you created a new version of this old classic. The ending is a little long for my taste, but everything else is dope. I really enjoy your covers!
  7. Bjorn, thanks for giving this a spin. I have made a few adjustments to the mix in regard to you and Barry. Good ears! Thanks, Mark, it's very encouraging to hear your words! Nigel, your words mean a lot to me! Thanks for your time and ears. Keep up your good work.
  8. Great write-up, Gary! So good that it sent me back to the lab I worked on the vocal using a mid/side technique to make the delays more legible, while slightly EQing them. It may need more attention in the long run, but I think it's closer to the finish line. My thanks to Markno 999 for a helpful hint.
  9. Thank you, Bruce, I'm happy to hear from you! I did make extensive use of my headphones and earbuds for this. As stated above, Markno 999 suggested the break before the choruses, and I came up the the swell. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good Daryl, thanks so much. I've learned a lot from your own productions, my friend!

This song makes me hungry, it's that good!
  11. What he said! You just keep getting better.
  12. No nits, no crits! Terrific song, guys. It made for a very pleasant ending to a difficult day. Carry on...
  13. Thank you, Paul, for your encouraging words. This is the first song that I used a ping-pong delay on a lead vocal, so consider it an experiment. Stay well! Mark, I should have given you some of the credit because you gave me the idea for the breaks between the verses and choruses. I'm using the drum kit that you turned me onto with our prior song. You've had a big influence on me this year! Jack, thank you so much! Steve, thanks a million for your comments! It's funny, I never thought of the beginning as "spooky", but you may be onto something in regard to working it into the song elsewhere. You may be right about feeling my age ;), though in some ways this message is about a younger person learning the ropes of life (for some of my millennial friends). Your ideas have always been beneficial to me!
  14. The VX 64 Vocal chain came with an older version of Sonar and is not included with CbB. If you have an old Sonar edition, it can be custom-downloaded from the installation disc. The SSL EV2 Channel stereo plug-in is from Waves and can be purchased from them. As you see in the video, any plug-in can be added via the f/x chain module in the Pro Channel strip. If these are unavailable to you, not to worry, there are many free VST's that can fill in for these plug-ins.
  15. Ahoy, mates! Here is a song that I recorded in July, but just finished the mix a few days ago. My friend, Roger Fife, played bass on this, and I did the rest. As always, the mix is still open, and I welcome your thoughts, suggestions, etc. I appreciate your time and good ears! Btw, for those who are curious, I do all my work in CbB, using plug-ins from CW, Waves, Melda, and various free vst's. Connecting The Dots can be found here: https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14588159 remix: 09/25/23 I replaced the ping-pong delay on the verses with a simple 1/8 note delay (except for a word or two), and left it only on the choruses. I dialed both delays back a notch. I also turned the lead vocal and bass down a tad. Hopefully, this makes the vocal more discernable. Thanks everyone for your help!
  16. This is quintessential eclecticness. Oddly, I find it timely. Only from a fascinating mind!
  17. Got it! I know where you're coming from. Terrific song. If you ever remix this, perhaps a bit more of your fine drum tracks?
  18. Fabulous, Steve! The whole song is very Gabrielesque, which means mesmerizing, to me. Your music is my comfort food. More, please!
  19. Terrific song, Paul! As noted above, there are a few awkward transitions, timing-wise, but those can be fixed. The rest of the mix is just fine. Your voice is just right, and the guitars rock. The mix is so good that those timing issues are clear, so I hope you take a little time to finalize this. It's well worth it!
  20. This is one of your best experiments, yet, Jesse! I love the tempo change, backward recording, and unexpected panning in this mix. The lyrics speak to me, and your guitar tracks are outrageous. Quite a niche you've created!
  21. Well done, Jeff. This will help to bring back memories someday.
  22. Excellent! This is one of the coolest covers I've heard in ages. You took possession of this song and made it your own. Congratulations, that's not easy to do.
  23. What a great album this is! As always, you're very creative and inventive in your production. I like seeing clips of the band performing mixed in. Any chance of a live recording someday? The only thing that stood out was that I had to turn up the playback quite a bit, but I have to do that with Steely Dan, as well. Stay well, Nigel!
  24. It's good to hear from you, Tim! This is a good rock song with a magnetic guitar riff. It really draws you in. This is one of the loudest masters I've heard in a while, which is OK, though it lacks dynamics, imo. It seems that nearly everything is the same volume all through the song making me miss the highs and lows of a great mix. I just don't hear it breathing, yet. But, a really cool song that needs very little tweaking to put it over the top.
  25. Terrific song, John. The lyrics are spot on! All in all, a solid recording and mix. You've helped so many people over the years with your tutorials, and it's good to see that you were able to help yourself
