  1. Thanks. Will look into it. I just found out that Focusrite screwed up my replacement unit. My Scarlett was scheduled to be delivered to them today and then suddenly, it is on its way back to me because of the address. I simply printed out their own shipping label. SO, this will delay me another week or so. I have been without an audio interface for nearly two weeks already, So frustrating, This is after they had the wrong RMA and were going to ship me a totally different product. I am definitely done with these guys.
  2. I have had a bad experience with both my Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 and Scarlett 18i20 and returned them both to Focusrite under warranty. They are sending me a brand new replacement Scarlett 18i20 2nd gen. Unfortunately, I am soured on them due to all of the BSODs I was getting from the FocusriteUSB Root driver. I was thinking of selling this new one and getting a 3rd Gen but again, I am not crazy about Focusrite at this point. Can anyone recommend a USB\USB-c Audio interface that has 8 ins and outs, similar to my unit. I dont use the digital ins and outs. I was about to get the Steinberg UR816C or maybe the Steinberg UR44C 6x4. Anyone have any experience with these? There are so few reviews on them, I do not use TB or firewire anymore. Any other suggestions?
  3. I have been seeing offers for sale that include midi sequences and patterns. How do we use them.a my guess is that we drop them onto a track but obviously there is no sound. Do we simply add an instrument track, and select that track as the output of the midi track? That would be my guess but never tried. I have no audio interface at the moment (in process of being exchanged under warranty) so I cannot try. If someone has a definitive answer, it would be appreciated so I can try this once I am back up and running. Thanks.
  4. I already checked the excluded list. Anyway, I uninstalled and re-installed to see where it was being installed. It is 64 bit so it went to Program Files. It placed the dll in the same folder and for some reason, this time it worked, despite me doing this very same thing a few times before I posted. So, problem solved for now. Thanks for the instructions for the scan plugins folder. I will keep it for future reference.
  5. Korg M1 goes to C:\Program Files\VstPlugins\KORG\M1.dll. SInce C:\Program Files\VstPlugins is one of the paths in plugin mgr, that eliminates #1 I am not sure how to run a scan log. I don't think it is a permissions issue because I have been using this plugin for a couple of years and worked until I did fresh install of windows 10. I am an administrator so I should have rights to everything. Thanks for the suggestions
  6. Of course it was the path to the dll. It may be a vst2 but I have others that I can see like the Yamaha RX11 drum machine.
  7. I just reinstalled Windows. Cakewalk and some vst instruments. For some reason, Cakewalk does not see my Korg M1 vst. It always did in the past. The path to the plugin is in the paths in the VST Plugin section. I scanned, re-scanned, uninstalled, re-installed, re-scanned and CW sees everything but the M1. What am I doing wrong?
  8. I got an email from Focusrite asking me to uninstall the current USB driver only. Then, I installed a beta usb driver. We will see what happens now.
  9. Wel, since it has been a few days since I opened a ticket with Focusrite, I gave up and blew away the entire machine, as stable as it has been for a couple of years. I installed a fresh WIndows 10. DId all the tweaks for DAWS. Downloaded Focusrite first. Then Cakewalk. I want to record 96 bit, so I made the focusrite 96 and Cakewalk 96/24. As soon as I checked off the 64 bit option in one of the audio preferences, paused and there was my Blue Screen. Same error. I couldnt believe it. THere is nothing on this computer other than those two appications. No AV, Nothing. It shouldnt crash at this point. My guess is that the focusrite and cakewalk settings must be identitical from the get go. You mentioned 44.1 but I do not want to use that anymore. So, tonight, I will open Focusrite, change to 96/24 then open Cakewalk and change to 96. Does that sound like it should work? Thanks for the reply BTW.
  10. I last used Cakewalk last month and it worked as solid as it did for the past year. Today, I opened CW, was prompted to update, which I did. The first time I opened CW, I got a message that I had no midi devices. I closed out and reseated the power and midi cable from my Alesis Q49 controller. Restarted CW and the controller was listed and checked off in the midi preferences. Still no sound, despite me inserting an instrument track, arming, echo enabled. Nothing at all. Clicking on the vst interface keys, I heard sound but still no midi. Suddenly a BSOD: Stop Code: System Service Error What failed: FocusriteUSBSwRoot.sys After it re-started, opened cakewalk and got an error that my default audio device was missing (focusrite) and to click to remove it. I clicked no. Focusrite was still in the preferences. Tried to use CW and another BSOD. After it restarted, I uninstalled all focusrite software and download again. Everything plays fine, YouTube, Sound Forge, etc but as soon as I open Cakewalk, I get the BSOD. It happened a few times since. Could this CW update have caused this issue with my Focusrite Scarlett 1820 2nd Gen? UPDATE: Being as impatient as I am, I uninstalled Bandlab Asst, Cakewalk, Focusrite and re-started with none of them. Re-installed both and I am getting BSOD in YouTube so it probably isn't a CW issue. I opened a ticket with Focusrite to see what they suggest,
  11. I haven't touched anything since I used it last, other than unplugging the power from the controller and the usb cable from the controller. I am using midi cable from controller to focusrite. There is only one midi in on the controller so that is not it. It turns out that I believe that the latest CW update that I installed today is causing the issue by conflicting with my Focusrite Scarlett 1820 2nd Gen controller . I can play audio from any other source, (You Tube, Sound Forge, etc) but as soon as I open CW and it scans the plugins, I just got 4 Blue Screens in the past 20 minutes. We can close this thread. I am opening a new thread.
  12. I have not used CW for a month due to a video project. Just opened it up and there was an update. I opened again and I can no longer record any midi from my Alesis Q49 midi controller. I inserted a soft synth track, chose the patch, armed, echoed and nothing. I can click the note with my mouse on the vst interface. Oddly, when I first opened Cakewalk it said there were no midi devices. I closed CW, unplugged my controller's midi and power cables and re-plugged. Started CW and it is in the Preferences. As far as I know, I did everything I can do. I even opened a previous project and tried to input onto a track and still no sound. What am I missing? This is the first issue since began using CW over a year ago.
  13. Just save what you need, blow it away with a new WIndows 10 OS.
  14. Open Youtube and play a video. Press the space bar. Does it start an stop the video? How about Windows Media Player. If it doesn’t work in those apps, then it’s not gonna week in Cakewalk. If it does work, then it is a Cakewalk issue. Is there a reset option in CW?
  15. I just realized that I may be doing this wrong. I created a new stereo buss that I named Reverb. However, if I choose the Reverb bus as the output for the track I want to add reverb too, then the individual track fader has no effect. Am I able to get the original dry track and then add the every only buss to the mix? I feel like I am missing something simple.
  16. For $30, buy a wireless keyboard and mouse (logitech). Go walk over to your drums and press letter R to record. Press R again to stop. Press Home key to go to beginning. I do it all the time.
  17. Thanks everyone. I created a bus and names it reverb. I loaded a reverb on it. I then created a send to that bus and it worked. Thanks again. BTW, my Foster X15 was a cassette recorder, not a reel to reel.
  18. I have skated by for over 20 years by adding reverb to a track and that is what I got. I know there is a way to send the original signal out to a reverb so that only the reverb is on the track and I would be able to maintain the original signal on its original track and simply add the reverb in as I like, and maybe panned to only one side. I cannot figure this out. I added a stereo bus but when I send my track's output to that bus, I get the combined wet and dry signal. That is no better than using my Fostex X15 in 1984 playing my guitar though a reverb and recording it that way. What is the best way to do this? Thanks.
  19. This should be simple. I have done it plenty of times. I just did the other day on my son's dell where I cloned his original drive to the SSD. I went to the BIOS and told it to boot the SSD. SImple enough. You can access the Bios on most Dell computers by pressing F2. Once in the bios, you have to find the boot order. You can tell it which drive to boot first. There is a way to move it to the top of the list. If yours isnt booting to the new WIndows 10 drive, what is it doing? I did not read this entire thread but there wasnt much info in your post. What drive were you using before? is it still in the Dell so that you have two separate drives with OS on them? What happens if you remove the original drive so you only have an SSD drive?
  20. Wow! I just read all of the responses to my mean feedback. I missed all of this. I was not being a troll. You asked what you are doing wrong and I said it. I never said to give up or that you have no talent. All that matters is that you enjoy doing what you do. It is amazing to create something. That said, I wrote hundreds of songs and many of them down right are not good. Heck, the other night my old drummer and I were watching a live show we did in 1989 and we were laughing at how we looked and at the songs. How dare he laugh at my babies. But he is right. If I were watching us, I would be mocking us to an extent too.. We cannot listen to our stuff objectively. Its like thinking that everyone has a beautiful baby when some are downright ugly. No one is going to say it. And the baby really is beautiful to the parents. I can sing a bit and even when I auto tune it, it is on key but my voice is not all that pleasant to listen to. I know it. I am not offended by it. A voice is an instrument. Someone''s $25 guitar is not going to sound like someone else's $10,000 vintage strat. It doesn't mean you cannot improve and you may not even want to. Maybe I am wrong. Then again, I am not too fond of Bruce Springsteen's voice along with Neil Young and Bob Dylan, though I like their songs. It is all subjective. I am sorry I gave my honest opinion. I didn't mean to offend you but you might want to think twice about asking users in a public forum to critique you. If all you want to hear is how good you are, just ask your family and close friends. When I was in a band, I was the same with the other members. I would constantly tell the bass player and drummer what they were doing wrong. I would not settle for less that it could be. And if I can play their parts better than them, then they might not be the right one for my band. They got mad when I would stop a song every time I heard their mistake but in the end, they played them much better. Anyway, keep doing what you are doing. It makes you happy and you are creating something. I would concentrate on breathing technique. Best wishes.
  21. To me, it sounds like it is your technique. I am no pro singer but I am close to what you sound. Face it. We don't have that good a voice. Even when you (and I) are on key, it doesn't sound that good. You sound like you are not singing correctly regarding the breathing and that kind of thing. You also sound like you are slightly straining to hit the notes. But you are on key. However, as I have found out, being on key doesn.t make a singing voice a good one. It is very difficult to listen objectively without the music. Good luck.
  22. I was having this problem all the time with my Korg M1 and Roland Cloud vsti. They would reset back every time I closed and re-opened the project and I would have to guess which of the 1000+ patches I chose earlier. Then, I posted my woes on in the VST forum. I got some replies and then when I tried to re-create it, it never happened again. I have no idea why. Maybe you can read my thread from there. It was about a month ago. Good luck.
  23. I found a Projects Templates folder on another drive. I copied it to the folder that is in preferences and everything is back to normal. The only thing I do not understand is that CW still showed the project folder being in the roaming folder, so I do not think I ever moved that one. I should be ok. Did this happen to anyone else?
  24. The templates folder in the preferences is pointing to my AppData\Roaming Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core folder, though the Project templates folder is not in there. I think I see what happened. I just replaced my original Media drive that had many of the cakewalk folders on it. I am in the process of copying the old drive to the new so I will see if it appears when I am done. Will report back in a couple of hours.
  25. I just updated to 2019.05 Build 31 and I also lost all templates. I didn't create any custom templates but I liked the ones that were there (4 track, 16 track, etc). Is there a way to get these back?
