  1. I use one ASIO driver and three devices without issue. 1 master device & two slaves on optical lightpipe for 24 channels of I/O.
  2. The actual "engine" of Kontakt loading an instrument is usually loaded only once (for the GUI at least) even with multiple instances (unless you have more than one open & pinned to the workspace). What eats up the RAM/resources mostly is the instrument sounds (samples) that are loaded into it. I run sessions with over 100+ instances of a VSTi (mostly Kontakt, but others also) wrapped in Komplete Kontrol so that I have hardware control from my keyboard, and, as long as I'm juducious about freezing synths when I'm not actively editing, have yet to experience outrageous problems. As an experiment, create an empty project and load just one instance of Kontakt (without an instrument... ie: empty), then duplicate the track 9 times and compare the RAM usage. You'll be suprized at how little Kontakt (the engine) itself uses.
  3. The freeze process operates monolithically on an instance of any multi-timbral instrument. It is not possible to isolate any particular track. Either bounce a particular voice/channel to a new dedicated audio track in an individual pass, or insert a specific instance of Kontakt for each instrument/ voice. Multiple instances of a VSTi engine really don't use that much more resources (other than sample ram). Unless I specifically want to actively layer instrument voices, I gave up on Kontakt Multis many years ago.
  4. I use either an Avalon or a VoxBox which are out most folks price range. However, I used to have one of these for use with my laptop on location which worked pretty well. They were only $99 back in the day...(sigh)
  5. The cheap 'Cinemag' transformer that they used in the signal path was notorious for de-laminating, sometimes causing ringing. Beg, borrow, or steal a different mic pre to confirm.
  6. Use the Event List to view the source track, then use the <Process><Find/Change> function to change all notes selected to a different MIDI channel. It can appear to be a daunting tool dialog, but is incredibly powerful when mastered. Once the filter & function have been executed, drag the source clip to target track & RMB; <Bounce to Clips>.
  7. That (in my science of acoustics) is what happens when multiple signals are convolved (summing) and (maths) functions cannot be expected to operate in a similar manner on a single source versus summed sources. Nature of the beast. Get used to dealing with the physics of sound. In a compressor for example, the activation threshold level and attack & release slew rates will operate differently on a solo track versus summed track(s).
  8. If Sonar hangs after crashing/closing and shows still active in Task Manager, try to power cycle your audio interface. If that removes it from TM, look for an updated driver for your I/O.
  9. The quote is transcribed from the CW PDF manual and refers to a scaling parameter in the [cakewalk.ini] file; you can open & edit it in notepad.
  10. I have had a tendency to go to SSO more often than the BBCSO Pro or even E/W Hollywood Opus as I find it "lighter", more responsive, and definitely more dry & tight. For what I spent on the BBCSO (even though it has paid for itself) I really don't get into it as much as I should. Plus, IMHO the SSO has some really cool articulations & effects that just aren't common. Altho, I've heard that the new E/W Hollywood Strings 2 is tighter and more chamber-like. Looking forward to that one near BF.
  11. You could try to play with the setting in the Cakewalk.ini file for Plugin scaling or with the actual scaling in Windows Control Panel between 100 - 125%. <Settings><Display><Scale and layout> It may depend on if you are using a hi-res screen (4k).
  12. @Cobus Prinsloo Under <Source Category> choose your Master Bus.
  13. Here's the default settings for that particular preset in Breverb. Why not just adjust to these settings and re-save as default for that preset? (Check Preferences in Breverb to see if you can over write with confirmation). As another alternative per @sjoens you could RMB on this and restore all presets in any desired bank;
  14. I've used to use (before going all SSD) the free defrag & registry cleaner from Auslogics (Australia). Beware of the attempt to auto install additional crap, and of course the PopUp ads, but that's the way of the world. It used to work like a champ to defrag and optimize for fast access on my HDD's. There is also this thing called "Google" where you could find alternatives. 😁
  15. If you don't have a system/file backup on another drive, reinstall is your best bet.
  16. Let's clear up your confusion: There is NO native sampler available in CbB (Cakewalk by Bandlab [the DAW]). There is a sampler instrument now available in (the new) Sonar 2024-07 [the new version of the DAW] called XSampler, which can [currently] only load one sample at a time as seen HERE. I believe the article you referenced is for "Bandlab", the [web based] music creation tool, which IMHO, is far from a DAW. All three things are distinct animals.
  17. AFAIK the three default layouts <category/manufacturer/type> are hard coded into the DAW and cannot be removed.
  18. <shift + drag> from source track to destination track then select all clips on destination track and RMB <bounce to clip>.
  19. 5kHz is usually the first band to get damaged with long term FOH mixers. And they are usually the last to ever get their hearing charted at a good audiologist.
  20. Some Kontakt instruments default to -6dB output. Check preferences in Kontakt for the output level and/or set the level in the instrument in Kontakt (wrench) and <save as> custom preset. If that solves it, you can <save> and overwrite factory patch, but any updates will negate & revert. I've had that issue with Abby Road kits and the Scarbee basses. Took forever to figure it out years ago.
  21. I know that it's too late, but one of my favorite luthiers would always cut a slot longitudinally in the middle of the nut with an x-acto saw and remove the nut in two pieces by tapping them loose from the fretboard side and then the head side. Never failed.
  22. Sonar (latest version) has the XSampler available as an instrument plugin, but at this time, can only load one sample at a time. ^^^ DropZone was available, but IIRC it was 32bit, and may crash later versions of CbB, and could only load two elements. There is also the old-skool way of just flying the pieces into a new track with copy/paste... the way we all did it back in the days of tape machines. I do what you are requesting all the time using Kontakt (full version) and have gotten really fast at it. There are some other samplers out there that are lo-cost or free if you look.
