I think I am gonna have to track back and change my mind on AT 5. It's actually really good. Its pretty good on clean tones. I managed to spend some time with the VIR this evening. That thing it really good. -

I am still on the fence on what AT 5 is. There might be a psychological thing happening still where I am much more attached to the interface and tones of AT 4 just because I have been using them for so long. AT 5 sounds very very different. Much more metal and trendy emo rockish to my ears. For the type of music I do, I am not sure if its a step forward yet. Still have to spend more time with AT 5. I also ran into some really weird workflow issues this morning with SE. Will try to re-install it in case it's half crippled due to the authorization issues IKM the had this morning. -

That's highly subjective. To my ears, it sounds more hard rock/metal-ish than AT 4 does. I think I prefer my Fender sims more mid rangey as they sound in AT 4. I still need to play around with the new AT. Its too early to tell. The GUI is really good though. Drag and drop of FX is very useful. -
The Z-tone DI is really good. Very sturdy. Not sure what sort of music you do, I do weird rootsy stuff and use lots of lapsteels and mandolins as well. The DI works real well and is a huge improvement over the previous DI I was using.

CPU wise, it seems same as AT 4. Not a big difference. I use NeuralDSP and its still less than Neural. -

A few things I noticed. - The default Amplitube effects are less than what is in AT 4. For example, there are missing analogue effects inserts that I have in AT 4 which don't seem to exist in AT 5. I will need to check again late today. - I also own and use the Fulltone effects extensively. They re-designed the rack and the Fulltone seems really fusked up now. The SSTE does not load normally in the rack. Its not horizontal. The GUI is resizable, but when you re-size if the GUI for SSTE is all blurry because the knobs are so small and lose resolution. it doesn't look like this anymore. ? -

Yeah. I think I am hearing improvement in the new version. I have AT 5 SE and I think I am seeing some weird limitations with it. I will have to check out more forums to make sure I am not missing things. I posed a bunch of mock up samples and test on my SC page. Still have to find time to work with it some more. -
If you hear more grit in AT 5, then I think it has more grit. ? I just uploaded the revised version of the same track with the SE supposedly authorized. So the first version should be AT 5 CS and the second one is AT 5 SE. The if I understand the IKM marketing mumbo jumbo, Amplitube 5 CS has 16 impulses per speaker and Amplitube 5 SE has 600 impulses per speaker. I can't hear the difference. Maybe its my setup or the sims i am using or the my ears are shot. I am also finding unusual limitations(or bugs?? ) with the Amplitube 5 SE version. ?

This is a quick mockup comparison between the two using the Fender Clean 1 with stock compressor and opto tremolo. There is a slight volume gain in AT 4 which I had to bring down by a few notches to get the gains to sort of match. No other FX were used. The file is 48k, 24bit. Download enabled in case anyone wantrs to analyze the raw file. FWIW.. I am hearing a slight difference and my ears are bad. But my understanding is the CS version does not use all the same sample resolution as SE, so I need to wait for SE to work it see if there is any actual difference between this amp sim between versions.

I am having same issues as everyone else. I did a comparison between the AT 4 and AT 5 sims based on what is current installed version has to offer. I guess its a CS version. I will post on the sounds thread. -

"an academic point" ? cool... ! ? -
Doesn't affect me. Though for anyone that is running a studio and is running legacy software -- I guess they know how to support themselves. Dount they would get much support for discontinued product anyways.

where did you order from? I ordered from IKM web site and item arrived in less than a week. I am in Canada. Maybe they are low on stock. I ordered before BF. -
I like Orange amp sims. I have IKM though. Hoping AT 5 breathes new life into it.

As a guitar player.. I think his approach to lead playing is very cool and modern when compared to other late 60s/70s artists of his generation (apart from Jeff Beck I guess). I really liked the squealy Crazy Horse solo's stuff in the 90s. I don't know. I guess the songs are good. I think the issue is his vocal delivery. It's an acquired taste. I am from that generation that were all sort of coming into adult hood just pre the grunge era and before his big re-emergence with the This Notes for You and the Harvest releases. In the 80s Neil Young was a bit of a hippie has been and everyone made fun of him for sounding like a cat when singing. @ 0:56 mins. ? (excerpt from the the poor mans Canadian live aid contributions -- ? I do admit , I kind of liked that Le Noise record. That was a pretty wild idea to release that in 2010s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Noise

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2020/dec/11/going-for-a-song-why-music-legends-are-lining-up-to-sell-their-rights ^^ I wonder if the Neil Young and co. are doing it to try to generate a higher sale in 2021/22? The free access will most probably increase internet traffic to the site and they could use that to ask for more money claiming they are more popular than they have ever been. ?

I missed the deal. oh well. maybe for the best. also curious if anyone else got more offers when using the $5 coupon.
-
Sorry, I am Canadian, and I never was able to get into any of his records. I just don't dig any of it in any of the eras .. I tried the folk rock 70s stuff, the later phase, the Crazy Horse.. can't get into any of it. I just fail to see why he's so big. I am a huge Dylan fan (all his phases) and also big David Crosby fan. I guess different strokes for different folks.

Oh yeah. Bob Young. Neil's 1/2 related brother from his mothers fathers cousins side.

i just updated on my system. I haven't noticed any issues. But the new AL 5 is a little slower than AL 4 on my setup.
-
I finally got the new updates. Total presents in AL 4 - 8529 Total presents in AL V - 8508 I doubt I will notice the difference. I am not sure I like this new spotifyish interface. I guess I need to still play around with it a bit.
