Hey Wookiee . . . super cool, and you've really got control on this one . . . melody with filter is very well done, overall well mixed . . . you are the synthmeister.
-
Treesha . . . nicely done, this is a new different sounding thing on the CakeSongs forum for me . . . I enjoyed it a lot ! You have the mixing very clear, makes it easy to listen to . . . but beyond that, it's got something very special about it, very worldly, a lot of different styles intermixed.
-
Esther . . . gotta' add to the other comments here . . . it's simply great to listen to, well sung, well mixed, well conceived ! Thanks for sharing your amazing art here.

Did you install Steinberg License Manager ? Think there's a repair option, also, I believe you have to properly register the license for it to work properly. -
Rex . . . so good . . . I hear this as an old school country song, with a more updated and clearer recording. The glissando organ intro is a bit loud for the rest of the mix. The harmony vocals certainly give it that old school flavour. It's a good AM radio mix, but that FM guy in me wants more low end for those bass and drums, it could add some punch, but that might not be what you're going for.

Wow Bjorn . . . that part where you transitioned from galaxies to earthbound hurricanes was a real eye opener ! I like the way you used continual panning movement, and the music through the whole piece is very majestic . . . visually reminding me that the universe is both scary and beautiful out there. Thank you NASA, thank you Bjorn !

Nice David . . . really like the jazz guitar motif throughout . . . and it feels just like a jazz combo with different guest stars popping up on stage. I hear what others hear, the kick drum is electronic, and random time, doesn't seem to support the band, maybe he had a bad night, broke up with the girlfriend. A nice acoustic sounding kick may help. Isn't this kind of jazz supposed to be sloppy ? Overall, it definitely has a sense of putting you there inside the scene of the moment.

Novation Impulse 61 -any success stories? Old thread. Sold.
noynekker replied to Michael Fogarty's topic in Gear
I've never had that "turning itself off" problem in the many years of using Novation Impulse in Cakewalk, but yes, a host of other issues. Have you ever installed the AutoMap software that came with this keyboard ? (Novation Impulse hasn't been supported in Cakewalk since Sonar X3, a long time ago.) How long is your USB cable ? (I had troubles when I got one that was too long) Also, there are settings in Windows in the Device Manager where USB hubs have a Power Management setting to allow Windows to turn off USB hubs to save power, find that USB, uncheck it ? Sorry, I know of no way to revert the firmware. Despite my many issues, I still use it with Cakewalk, though I only use it now to input Midi parts . . . as a controller interface, the suckage factor is high. -
@MichaelJohn @Makke @Douglas Kirby @DeeringAmps @jmasno5 Thanks for listening in . . . very much appreciate all for your positive comments !

jmasno5 . . . can't say I've ever heard a Monkees tribute here on the CakeSongs forum, but you've done a great new clean recording of it here. Very nostalgic for those of us here who remember those days. (Might be a few still here) Surprised it was co-written by Peter Tork, as most of their big hits were written by other prominent writers from that era. Anyways, thanks for the blast from the past . . . I like your version a lot (though, want to hear the back up vocals pumped a bit more) . . . and yes, enjoyed the 2:29 of it, back then you really had to get to the point right away !

Hi Douglas . . . very cool and rockin' tune here. You always record with such intensity, and the mixes sound very good to my ears, though, the program level is driven somewhat higher than other projects I listen to online, I usually have to tweak it down a bit. For such a hard driving song, it's got that smooth analog sound to it, no hard digital edges, I'm sure that's something to do with the equipment you've listed. Your guitar playing is top shelf in this one !

Alignment of the Planets, new prog rock instrumental
noynekker replied to MichaelJohn's topic in Songs
Michael John . . . very enjoyable, nice long listen, we never know what's coming next, nothing predictable, many different instrumental and emotional journeys throughout, tempo changes, I'm curious how you put this together, seems many sections composed, but they join together very effectively, with smooth transitions . . . hope you post some more here like this soon ! -
Hi Mark . . . thanks for being "inspired" . . . ya' I have a crack professional team working on those videos right now . . . ha ! . . . bit of a learning curve, for someone who has only been a songwriter, but at least I have finally that video software installed.
-
Thank you Lynn ! . . . glad you enjoyed . . . yes, still searching for the event that would suit this piece.
-
Well . . . I just uploaded like I normally do . . . but maybe they treat this kind of material different than pop songs, I'll have to look into it, now that you've mentioned it.
-
Very creative version of a classic song . . . like the glissando addition . . . kept my interest throughout, nice nice nice.

Nigel . . . solid mix and song as always . . . the video imagery is stunning and very unique shall I say . . . very well produced.
-
Tom . . . nice GTR ditty . . . remember, it ain't illegal unless you get caught . . . it ain't stolen unless they can prove it in court. When you add those vocals, we will determine who you copied . . . cuz there must be 1000 songs called "Better Days", man, I think I even have one called that . . . hey, wait a minute . . .
-
Barry . . . that second mix has brought up the low end just right on my system, don't be messin' with it too much more. I'm not usually a fan of R&B, but this one is just a lot of fun to listen to . . . lots of (cerebral) dancing in my living room tonight for this one !

@David Sprouse Thanks for listening David, of course the original version didn't sound as big as this . . . I redid it with some of the new amazing orchestral samples we have nowadays. Yes . . . cannon shots . . . now that takes me back to high school, we played 1812 many times ('til we got it right) . . . I recall there was a kid standing beside a really large drum . . . just waiting for the big finale.
-
@Johnbee58 It's very true John, I recall there was a renegade radio station up here years back that "mostly" played original, new and unsigned bands, they didn't last very long, advertisers were not attracted or something like that ? Thanks for having a listen.
-
@Bajan Blue Thanks Nigel for taking some time to have a listen.

Great sounding song John ! Liking the piano and string arrangements, You mention up front "meandering thoughts" . . . as a listener, I just want to know more about who the lyrics are directed towards, that's just not clear, and think it would help understanding the song more, but maybe that's just me.

Wookiee man. . . you keep warping onward . . . let me tell you nothing else in my mortal day sounded like this, so a great departure occurred upon putting the phones to my ears and escaping to your world . . . warp 8 is much mellow, me like it at end of crazy Thursday.
