Hey Bjorn . . . now that's a great compliment for a songwriter to get . . . thank you so much for that !
-
Great piece Wookiee . . . time well spent on this listen ! Now, did the tempo increase ever so slightly 3/4 way through this one, or was that just my brain + ears ? I like when I listen to this that it covers all the frequency spectrum . . . ie. it's always got a balance of bottom and top, bass and treble, covering all the ranges, can't describe it better, maybe you know what I mean ? . . . perhaps I mean well recorded and balanced, but also really kept my mind interested in the frequencies and melodies. The synth bass sounds you use have great and punchy dynamics all on their own without drums . . . new toys sound great whatever they are !

@Larry T. Enjoyable listen here Larry ! . . . for me it has a bit of a minstrel or renaissance feeling to it, but of course with very updated instruments. I like how you've mixed it, and that great main melody theme that repeats nicely throughout. The wide sweeping guitar is also a super effect choice. Lots to like about it.

@Larry T. Much appreciated, thanks for listening.

Nice one Jesse . . . this one has a verse and chorus I can relate to. Though, It's definitely to the left for me, but I did have some fun listening to it . . . hope she likes it too !

Okay, got it . . . but, NPR . . . national public radio ?
-
antler . . . uplifting, and really easy to listen to on my Sunday Eve . . . it's a digital sequence, yet the overall sound has very soft edges to it, very well done and mixed !
-
Hi David . . . interesting short piece you've done here, great listen, as always . . . now, "NPR Bumper Music" what is that again ? Esoteric, in that many here may not know what bumper music is, including me.
-
Thanks so much Mark ! . . . yes, that was the final ingredient, that darn Kick . . . you tend to get so focused on other things in a long mix session, and forget to focus on the essentials. I really appreciate your ear help there . . . I've posted a new and (hopefully) improved mix . . . again, thanks to all who offered their suggestions to make this better.

@DeeringAmps Hey Tom . . . these are great and helpful comments, no offense taken . . . I've fired (retired) my robot bass player . . . the new guy swings maybe a little too much, but what do I know ? This song is a little different than what I usually do, and this genre certainly needs to swing more, now that you mentioned it. @PhonoBrainer . . . thanks for the suggestion to lose the 1,2,3,4 rhythm guitar, and bumping the vocal up, I'm working on that right now. Anyways, I'll upload a new mix later today . . . thank you all so much for your time and ears !
-
@PhonoBrainer Tom, you have a very keen ear, and your suggestions here are spot on . . . just when I thought it was done, hmmm, now maybe it can be a little better, Lol. Thanks for your time and invaluable insights !
-
@Paul Bush thank you Paul . . . I am very familiar with Neil Finn, that is very high compliment indeed. I'm glad you liked it !
-
@antler thanks for your positive comments about the mix and the vocal and guitar interplay in the last part . . . that sure took me a long time to figure out, so they would work together. (I checked out your S/C link, you've got some amazing orchestral stuff there sir !)
-
@Bapu much appreciated, thanks for giving it a whirl.
-
@Makke thanks for the listen and comments !

Pretty epic piece here dudes ! Forum all stars all around. The vocals are so well done and mixed in here, super clarity in a very busy mix . . . nice. Just a pleasure to listen to how the band comes together here . . . wow, was this all done virtually, remotely ?
-
Makke . . . enjoyed this, nice touch on the guitar fretting, you bend it very well here !

Happy Halloween!! (now with horrifying(ly bad) video!)
noynekker replied to David Sprouse's topic in Songs
David . . . appropriately and seasonally macabre, until the drums kick in . . . then we got transported to 1960's, then the old mystery drama movie returns . . . nice sonic journey you've taken us on . . . I had fun here, kind of like a Halloween amusement ride . . . well composed sir ! Happy Halloween to you as well. -
Thanks David . . . that rhythm guitar was part of the original idea along with the drums, so I left it the same, maybe I should do an upgrade. I played the lead guitar part on a very old and sketchy jazz guitar, it sucked sonically, so I did the audio to midi conversion, and found the appropriate sample to do the job.

So here's something newish . . . it's been lurking around my studio as a rhythm track for a long while, and I finally made a song from it. It started with a groove using cakewalk session drums, some jazzy guitar chords, now we got this. I added some organ, didn't like it, so changed it to horns, but the levels of those horns are tricky, depending which speaker system I listen on . . . let me know how it translates ? suggestions or comments from the cakewalk nation are always helpful. (please ignore the mullet hairdo picture posted when offering your mix considerations, she liked it . . . but, where did she go ?

David . . . great little dance pop tune you've done here ! I really like your vocals, and it's interesting how you've changed up the ambience around them throughout the piece, especially dryer in the verses for clarity of lyrics, and lots of nifty vocal rhythmic effects. The wash of thick synth sounds that come and go are also a good touch. Around 2:40 there is a section where the audio engineer part of my brain kicks in, and hears what sounds like audio interface crackling, buffer settings too low . . . but maybe you were trying for vinyl crackle, or a lo-fi sound, hard to say. Also, if I'm dancing to the groove in a club, that ending may leave my feet wondering where to step next ? On my small speakers, that kick sounds awesome . . . hopefully that translates to a club environment, do you have a place to test that out ? I think it's a great pop concept "Stay in Love" . . . and most important is that it's catchy, and fits the house genre very well. Best of luck with this one, I think many will like this song as well !
-
Hey Wookiee . . . it's majestic and slowly unfolding, and I think you've used the glide very effectively, perhaps masterfully . . . great to listen to ! . . . and you're always a pleasant departure here for my Sunday evening listening.
-
. . . and shouldn't it remember the export settings saved with your projects, like it did before ? . . . so you don't have to re-monkey with it every time you do the export ?
-
Hi Bjorn . . . well composed, and a pleasant listen / departure from my day. I'm a fan of those Indiginus sample libraries, and have some in my collection as well. You've really captured a Celtic vibe here with all those different instruments and the way you've combined them here. Nothing to do with your piece, but I find the fiddle sample sound a bit too smooth compared to a real fiddle, missing the intricate scratchiness and dragging of the bow.
-
PhonoBrainer . . . you've done it again . . . loving the ambience of the orchestral warm up in your intro, was that a cat wailing ? hope he's OK . . . then the cliché announcer, and especially when your alto (not soprano) opera singer sample shatters some glasses, oh yeah, you know how to have some fun, and your sense of humor always shines through in all your stuff. That's a pretty stellar electric guitar solo you captured later as it goes, and it's panned everywhere, super huge sound ! I'm also impressed by the different ambiences you've dialed in on various instruments through the piece, makes it sound multi dimensional. The video version bends the mind and the eyes some (as I'm sure you intended) . . . also, because I just started playing around with some video software for my own tunes . . . I am humbled by the possibilities of what you've accomplished here with music and video, simply amazing ! . . . and above all, it's very cerebrally entertaining. Space Reggae Opera indeed. (have you talked to your music therapist about genre confusion ? Lol) So, as I've said before . . . whatever will he come up with next ? You always deliver.
