  1. Hey Douglas . . . very cool song, and it sounds like you've done something different here, different than your usual, changed up the songwriting . . . your vocals are always great, but in this one the drums, the beat, the song . . . evolved to something else.
  2. RDB . . . well done !, nice collection of urban video images, lots of interesting things to watch while enjoying the mellow vibe of your ambient music, I found it very relaxing on my Saturday night, just what I needed . . . thanks for posting here.
  3. @Douglas Kirby . . . thanks for listening, and these great comments . . . yes, more of a rocking chair rocker, compared to your stuff
  4. Great pop song brothers, liking the vocals and lyrics a lot, this was the music that even the clumsy (like me) could dance to back in the day I was thinking as I was listening how that smashing omnipresent long tailed snare sound ruled the 90's . . . and it made me wonder if you've ever tried a version of this with a tighter reverberant snare ? It's such a well crafted song idea, but seems very tied to the 90's by that snare sound. Don't get me wrong, if that's what you were going for, you nailed it ! . . . but still I wonder.
  5. Douglas . . . right on rocker, smooth and pro clear recording . . . really enjoyed this one !
  6. Hey Bjorn . . . now that's a great compliment for a songwriter to get . . . thank you so much for that !
  7. Great piece Wookiee . . . time well spent on this listen ! Now, did the tempo increase ever so slightly 3/4 way through this one, or was that just my brain + ears ? I like when I listen to this that it covers all the frequency spectrum . . . ie. it's always got a balance of bottom and top, bass and treble, covering all the ranges, can't describe it better, maybe you know what I mean ? . . . perhaps I mean well recorded and balanced, but also really kept my mind interested in the frequencies and melodies. The synth bass sounds you use have great and punchy dynamics all on their own without drums . . . new toys sound great whatever they are !
  8. @Larry T. Enjoyable listen here Larry ! . . . for me it has a bit of a minstrel or renaissance feeling to it, but of course with very updated instruments. I like how you've mixed it, and that great main melody theme that repeats nicely throughout. The wide sweeping guitar is also a super effect choice. Lots to like about it.
  9. @Larry T. Much appreciated, thanks for listening.
  10. Nice one Jesse . . . this one has a verse and chorus I can relate to. Though, It's definitely to the left for me, but I did have some fun listening to it . . . hope she likes it too !
  11. Okay, got it . . . but, NPR . . . national public radio ?

    Joyful Memories

antler . . . uplifting, and really easy to listen to on my Sunday Eve . . . it's a digital sequence, yet the overall sound has very soft edges to it, very well done and mixed !
  13. Hi David . . . interesting short piece you've done here, great listen, as always . . . now, "NPR Bumper Music" what is that again ? Esoteric, in that many here may not know what bumper music is, including me.
  14. Thanks so much Mark ! . . . yes, that was the final ingredient, that darn Kick . . . you tend to get so focused on other things in a long mix session, and forget to focus on the essentials. I really appreciate your ear help there . . . I've posted a new and (hopefully) improved mix . . . again, thanks to all who offered their suggestions to make this better.
  15. @DeeringAmps Hey Tom . . . these are great and helpful comments, no offense taken . . . I've fired (retired) my robot bass player . . . the new guy swings maybe a little too much, but what do I know ? This song is a little different than what I usually do, and this genre certainly needs to swing more, now that you mentioned it. @PhonoBrainer . . . thanks for the suggestion to lose the 1,2,3,4 rhythm guitar, and bumping the vocal up, I'm working on that right now. Anyways, I'll upload a new mix later today . . . thank you all so much for your time and ears !
  16. @PhonoBrainer Tom, you have a very keen ear, and your suggestions here are spot on . . . just when I thought it was done, hmmm, now maybe it can be a little better, Lol. Thanks for your time and invaluable insights !
  17. @Paul Bush thank you Paul . . . I am very familiar with Neil Finn, that is very high compliment indeed. I'm glad you liked it !
  18. @antler thanks for your positive comments about the mix and the vocal and guitar interplay in the last part . . . that sure took me a long time to figure out, so they would work together. (I checked out your S/C link, you've got some amazing orchestral stuff there sir !)
  19. @Bapu much appreciated, thanks for giving it a whirl.
  20. @Makke thanks for the listen and comments !
  21. Pretty epic piece here dudes ! Forum all stars all around. The vocals are so well done and mixed in here, super clarity in a very busy mix . . . nice. Just a pleasure to listen to how the band comes together here . . . wow, was this all done virtually, remotely ?

    Blue guitar

Makke . . . enjoyed this, nice touch on the guitar fretting, you bend it very well here !
  23. David . . . appropriately and seasonally macabre, until the drums kick in . . . then we got transported to 1960's, then the old mystery drama movie returns . . . nice sonic journey you've taken us on . . . I had fun here, kind of like a Halloween amusement ride . . . well composed sir ! Happy Halloween to you as well.
  24. Thanks David . . . that rhythm guitar was part of the original idea along with the drums, so I left it the same, maybe I should do an upgrade. I played the lead guitar part on a very old and sketchy jazz guitar, it sucked sonically, so I did the audio to midi conversion, and found the appropriate sample to do the job.
  25. So here's something newish . . . it's been lurking around my studio as a rhythm track for a long while, and I finally made a song from it. It started with a groove using cakewalk session drums, some jazzy guitar chords, now we got this. I added some organ, didn't like it, so changed it to horns, but the levels of those horns are tricky, depending which speaker system I listen on . . . let me know how it translates ? suggestions or comments from the cakewalk nation are always helpful. (please ignore the mullet hairdo picture posted when offering your mix considerations, she liked it . . . but, where did she go ?
