Fourteen Years (original song and animation)
noynekker replied to Dream Art Scientists's topic in Songs
Great sounding piece with smooth flowing synth wash . . . You know the vocal sounds like Jim Morrison (The Doors) , intentional ? Or maybe you just got natural swagger If you're going for the "chill out" sound, that works for me, except on my headphone listen there's a regularly occurring high pop crackle sound in the percussion that takes some of my chill away, but overall I certainly enjoyed watching and having a listen. -
Is it me, or a bug ? with Cakewalk Export Audio
noynekker replied to noynekker's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
@bitflipper I found your suggestion very interesting, so I installed Windbg, and loaded the recent minidump files to analyze. It found an exception . . . so I clicked to analyze that exception and it came up pointing to my BFD3 drum synth . . . hmmmm . . . maybe the results pasted below will mean more to you, but either way, BFD3.dll appears to be the culprit , , , so what next, reinstall ? live with the crashes ? contact the new giant corporation that assimilated BFD3 ? ask on the BFD3 forum if there are any Cakewalk users having this issue ? MODULE_NAME: BFD3 IMAGE_NAME: BFD3.dll FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: HEAP_CORRUPTION_c0000374_BFD3.dll!Unknown OS_VERSION: 10.0.19041.1 BUILDLAB_STR: vb_release OSPLATFORM_TYPE: x64 OSNAME: Windows 10 IMAGE_VERSION: 3.4.3.7 FAILURE_ID_HASH: {0e14b251-d941-395b-e486-91b18ec6077c} Followup: MachineOwner . . . Is it me, or a bug ? with Cakewalk Export Audio
noynekker replied to noynekker's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Hi Will, thanks for responding . . . I would never have thought a plugin might cause this, since the track plays and sounds fine . . . and as I mentioned, it happened on a very simple project with just a drum synth and a bass guitar synth, a few FabFilter EQ's . . . stock stuff I use frequently . . . but, I tried bitflipper's suggestion below , and it may be BFD3 drum module. -
Hey Nigel . . . FYI, the drum programming here is BFD3 Thanks for having a listen !

I seem to keep getting this issue happening, I keep causing Cakewalk to crash instantly when exporting to audio. Doesn't happen all the time, but a lot, and I think it might be me, something I'm doing that breaks the code ? I just want to make a new version of my mix, so I click File, Export . . . and in the "Filename and Location" box, I give it the new name . . . click on the right settings I want, click Export, instant crasho ! I look in the folder, and it has created a 4k file with the name I gave it. So I re-open Cakewalk and try exactly the same thing again, and select that 4k file, click Export . . . it asks me to Overwrite, I say OK, and it works as expected. Tonight, I was working on a very lightweight project when this Export issue happened again . . . so it made me wonder. Hopefully, I have described this clear enough, has anybody else run into this at all ?

@mark skinner @KSband Thanks for the positive feedback, much appreciated ! Yes Mark, I hear what you mean about the vocal EQ, a little too thick in the bottom, and I also listened on some different systems today and concluded the Kick really needs more definition in the mix, a certain higher mid frequency to help it punch through, I think the overall drum feel would be better . . . so still working it some more.

Steve . . . another great sounding cover . . . guess this one was never a huge hit parade thing, I don't think I've ever heard it, but your version is excellent, including that 60'ish horn section, Burt Bacharachish and all. Enjoyed it in my retro brain very much !

Nigel . . . super interesting piece, particularly liked the mannequin image in the video, and the drum and instrument rhythm of the Bridge section was an excellent change up musically.

Bapu, your son has really created a great orchestral mood here, most impressive and thoroughly enjoyable ! . . . now, that sudden ending just makes me yearn for the sequel to this one . . .

Nice one David ! . . . I'm thinking the "inner logic" will be different for everyone who watches and listens to this. It certainly kept my interest, lots of interesting visuals. Musically, I like the groove, easy going, starts in the country, then city, dancing . . . sonically, maybe the organ melody needs some ambience around it ? Haven't seen you around these parts for a while, nice to hear you're still making some cool music.

Hey Everyone . . . something I've been tinkering with recently . . . a bit different for me, since I had lyrics completed first (guess we just call that a poem) then built a vocal + song + chord structure afterwards, poof, a song . . . let me know if it needs more tinkering ?

The expression in your guitar playing here is simply remarkable Mark. You ever listen to Ray Charles ? . . . I think your voice is able to wrench out the blues much like his, even a bit edgier. And much appreciation here for your jazzy piano stylings, bang on, really adds to the whole atmosphere of this piece. Now, just don't mess with this mix too much

Hey Gary . . . really nice work here, and the song translates perfectly, musical esperanto . . . and what a great sounding band you get to record ! I lean towards Mix 3 right now, after comparing to Mix 4. When I first heard Mix 3, I wanted to bump up the volume a bit to feel more inside the mix, and I'm thinking the guitar player likes Mix 3 much better ? In Mix 4 your volume is up, I find the toms overpowering at times, and yes the guitar solo is lost in the mids somewhere, for sure more volume there if you go with Mix 4. Mix 4 is overall much thicker, warmer, and I think there's a part I recall where you really brought the organ up, liked that better. I would certainly want to compare in different listening environments to make a properly informed decision, and hope you will do that. Tell Hobo Train they are fabulous for me ! So, right now I'm Mix 3 with overall more volume, more organ.

Beauty of an upbeat love song, great vocals and nifty tasty horn section ! . . . so, you're sayin' old dudes can still fall in love ? I sure hope so, cuz' life could get really boring if not. Well done, very easy to listen to, and a great positive lift, despite everything in the daily news. (BTW, your post says "Final Reminder" . . . but your site calls the song "Final Remainder" . . . old guy love works either way)

Hi Paul . . . just had a listen on SC and have great appreciation for what you done here, what a great sounding track ! (hear a few drum timing vs. guitar issues at the very start of the piece, but the groove certainly settles in after that) You recorded those vocals and harmonies very large and clear, and some stellar guitar work along the way. Great stuff, great songwriting, nice change ups, as always. This one has a very catchy melody in the verse and chorus, really enjoyable to listen to.

Steve . . . pretty cool cover of an old and classic song ! . . . and you've thrown in some very bealtesque quirks to your version . . . made a few smiles here, and very enjoyable to my ears. Now, of course I had to go and listen to that original version, and was surprised to hear how out of tune the guitars panned extreme left and right actually were ? Yours are nicely in tune, and those vocals are very well done and smoootthlly recorded.

Is "Cronus" - V Vocal plugin no longer supported ?
noynekker replied to noynekker's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
The error code says "The module "C:\Program" failed to load, and "make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files" "The specified module could not be found" I really only want VVocal to be able load up old projects, of which I have many, there are still remnants of it that never got rendered, I've always left things un-rendered, probably not the best way to leave projects. -
Is "Cronus" - V Vocal plugin no longer supported ?
noynekker replied to noynekker's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
@@bitflipper . . . thanks for your reply and info, but the REGSVR32 on an elevated command prompt didn't work, just got an error message . . . but, I forgot about DX Audio plugins, and when I looked in Cakewalk Plugin Manager, "Cronus" was in fact an excluded plugin (thanks for that) . . . so I toggled it to be included, but still the project crashes on open (insert arggh emoji) Anyways, by loading in safe mode, and excluding all instances of Cronus, I got the old project open, then I changed all the VVocal clips to Melodyne clips, and the project opens nicely . . . so, I'm off to make some music. -
Is "Cronus" - V Vocal plugin no longer supported ?
noynekker replied to noynekker's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Yes John, I recall the V Vocal issues, back in the day . . . the workaround was always to only use it on short clips . . . so, that's what this project has, 5 very short clips, let's just blame it on Windows updates. -
Is "Cronus" - V Vocal plugin no longer supported ?
noynekker replied to noynekker's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Thanks for responding Jonathan . . . if I could get the darn project open with those 5 V Vocal clips intact, I would surely render them . . . didn't really remember they were even there still, haven't needed V Vocal for a very long time . . . but, I do have a workaround by opening it on my newer laptop install, then I have to figure out how to purge them from the project, so the project will load on my desktop DAW. -
Is "Cronus" - V Vocal plugin no longer supported ?
noynekker replied to noynekker's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Hi Mike . . . my main DAW computer is 10+ years old, I probably have Sonar Platinum installed as well, I've just never uninstalled any Cakewalk products. Just now as a test, I successfully opened the project in question on my newer laptop build . . . and only got a warning about 5 instances of "Cronus" that could not be found, but it opened with no other issues. -

Yes 8.5/X1/X2 are installed, all 64 bit for me as well -
Is "Cronus" - V Vocal plugin no longer supported ?
noynekker replied to noynekker's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Hi Mike, I go back to all earlier Sonar versions, installed originally from the Sonar 8.5 CD, updated to Sonar X1 and X2 . . . V Vocal worked a year ago when I last worked on the project, today, not so much . . . I know sometimes old things don't work well with new things, but don't recall anything official from Cakewalk about V Vocal no longer working . . . and yes, I just tested if I start a new instance of V Vocal, it seems to work in my latest Cakewalk by BandLab . . . perhaps it doesn't like my fragmented clips, mixed with other plugs ? I'm attempting a rebuild of the project. -
Tonight I tried to open a project last saved as a CWP about a year ago . . . it will no longer open properly. Opening the project in safe mode (holding down shift key) eventually exposed the offending plugin as "Cronus" aka V Vocal. Bypassing this plugin lets the project open. This older project apparently still has some remnants of very old Cakewalk within it. So, is V Vocal no longer supported in the newer Cakewalk by Bandlab ? I only offer this as a warning for those opening older projects that have V Vocal plugin loaded.
