BTW, autoruns (for Windows) is an excellent tool for seeing (and controlling) what's installed and runs on your system. Before installing anything new I take a 'snapshot' of my system (via File | Save...), perform the installation, and then run "Compare..." to see what (if anything) was added. It's very comprehensive, lightweight, and free.

I'm new to Epic Games. Is it safe/wise to install them on a system that you use for your DAW? Specifically, will the installer or games install any resource-draining software that would reduce DAW performance?

It appears you have to buy something before getting the plugin for free. Fragment is a dual looper device with pitch shifting, phrase modulation and more. It comes free with An Moku's Less for $6 - out now on Puremagnetik Tapes. Download instructions are included with the Bandcamp album download.

Sorry, but both are excellent. I use them regularly in most mixes. I wish all my plugins were so thoughfully designed/executed. Note, I don't use them to enhance audio but rather to fix problems or achieve standard mixing goals. I used to use them to enhance/sweeten/fortify tracks but found there were many better alternatives (YMMV).

This is particularly true for Acustica/Aquarius! And if you tick the box "Always show trash icon" in the Settings "Installation" tab, it adds a little trash icon to the GUI that you can click to purge the (rather large) setup files. Warning: Do *not* set the "Stage area path" to a place where you have other files that you want to keep because Aquarius will delete *everything* in that folder!

Where did you guys find these magical points/coins?

I just sent them an email describing the (Cubase VST3) problem.

Yes, I agree. I didn't mean to sound snarky. I agree with this as well. Although genuine improvements are always welcome, MS seldom delivers them. Their changes are usually half-baked and, as you said, are painful to deal with.
-
I seriously doubt this option. MS has been a lazy, uninspired company from it's inception and will likely continue this strategy. Monopoly has enabled them to propser.
-
Me too. I plan to stay with it as long as possible given it's rock-solid stability.

The integrated pitch-shifter is cool. Not bad for just $9.

I don't think so, but thanks for the suggestion. Cubase automatically chooses the latest plugin if more than one exists. If you don't want the one it chooses, you have to remove it (which is what I did for Omnisphere and Trilian).

Native Instruments Komplete upgrade deals starts June 1st!
locrian replied to Yan Filiatrault's topic in Deals
Not even close!!! Despite having the HDD plugged into my system and recognized by Native Access, I too had to download 120+ GB of content. And it was all the large 20-30GB libraries. So I too say, WTF is the point of making me pay for a HDD if so much content has to be downloaded anyway?!? Geeesh... -
Contrary to the two Spectrasonics' VST3 plugins, the new NI VST3 plugins *did* switch successfuly in Cubase 11. By that I mean, despite swapping my old NI FX plugins from VST2 to VST3, they're all still recognized in my old projects (which originally used VST2). This did not happen with the Omnisphere and Trilian plugins.

They do what they're supposed to do -- compress and equalize -- but the sound quality for me was very poor; especially the EQs which made many things sound strident. They also caused stability problems in Cubase (back a few versions). But I haven't used them recently, so maybe NI improved them.
-
True. The compressors and EQs are mix-destroying garbage! However, I have found very usable presets in the three Crush Pack FXs, the three Mod Pack FXs, Replika XT and Raum. They're all very stable, low-CPU usage, with simple, resizable GUIs. And effected-tracks sit well in most mixes.

Microsoft's roadmap for the next few decades: Windows 10: square corners Windows 11: rounded corners Windows 12: chamfered corners Windows 13: ??? corners (I hope I live to see this one!)
