  1. Pro-Q 3 changed how I mix. Mid-side is brilliant. I want to go back and re-mix all my old mud. And Pro-L 2 is the best limiter I have ever used. Those two would be my pics. Wondering if the Fab reverb is any vast life changer? As I have several other excellent reverbs, does the Fab have any unique qualities?
  2. From the standpoint of composition, I thought it was great! Interesting chord progressions that don't go to cliche places. Very tasteful and well mixed instrument choices and arrangement ideas. From the standpoint of guitar tone, holy jeepers, very clear, wonderful harmony lines, extremely well played! A pleasure to listen to that guitar. And the supporting instruments just . . . support. The bass is perfect volume for me, the drums might come up, or closer to the listener, just a smidge. Beautiful! My crit might be the piano, do you have another instrument or vsti? This one has a midi honky tonk detuned sound and it's not half as tonally 3D as that wonderful guitar, and it bangs away rather dry compared to the more roomy tone of the rest of the arrangements. I listened several times. Joe Walsh would like this. I like it too! cheers, -Tom
  3. I smell the halls of the Crimson King of 2019. Nice yet brief, too brief.
  4. . . . if the whole rig and the surrounding pond were on fire. . .
  5. What's a cinnamon for aphasia?
  6. Or you could just stack 'em up like cordwood. Starting a new "unfinished song no. 456" is a lot more fun than actually finishing an old one.
  7. Newton messing about with light going through a prism?
  8. That tree could use a melting clock drooping off a limb.
  9. "15 Minutes of Shame" My son and his friend have generated a podcast series, to which I have, with their assistance, contributed some music. It's been fun to write some songs and to watch them learn the process of writing / editing / recording / editing / more editing. They worked hard and I just contributed a few tunes along the way. In particular, the "theme song" which is really featured in the last minute of each episode. Their commentary can get political, so fair warning. Thanks for giving it a spin if you have the time . . . cheers, -Tom Or this youtube link: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCj8PsuUfz3OhdeGZxPQbgzw
  10. Thanks @RexRed and yes part of my unfinished feeling is I should be doing exactly that . . . this one is going back into the woodshed. Thanks for the listen and the comment!
  11. the more I listen to it, the more unfinished this sounds. Many thanks for the encouragement so far. @Lynnmany thanks, the inspirating is mutual. @freddy j - thank you, I appreciate it. I think it needs some more cohesion, perhaps there is too much in the kitchen sink. @Wookiee - smiling, affirmative! Many thanks. I am slowly but surely working my way up to have the balls to write a proper electro-jazz piece a la Caravan Palace. Figuring this one out will hopefully help me do that. @bjornpdx- thanks much. There is a little Fellini in there for sure. @Joad - thanks, man! I listened to the Kurt Weill (I was only passably familiar, I had once played piano for a German woman who sand his songs) and yes very much in line with what I am trying on here. In that video, about half way through, there came some electric guitar/singer guy, sounded like Lou Reed trying to be a straight singer. WTF??? Thanks for the tip!
  12. Dear David Sanborn, You should have had your band play this one in the 90's. Your loss. great one H.S. cheers, -Tom
  13. Nice one. Cool mix, nothing really pops out. Nice chorus. Not to be confused with Binaca.
  14. What microphone are you using, what preamp or interface? Your stuff is getting quite good but my guess is you might upgrade something in the mic department. Am I wrong? I'd love to hear some shiny vocal clarity in the higher eq's - your song ideas are great and I think the vocals could be brighter in the mix. Is your vocal mic an sm57? OR are you eq'ing a crapton off the top? But anyway, cool song. A pleasure as always. cheers, -Tom ps great vocal delivery, I'm not commenting on your performance, which was way good indeed.

    Si tu savais

So very tasty! Nice one sir. -Tom
  16. Cool summer head bobber. I liked your vocals as I usually do! I liked the tambourine chorus and the organ was cool, I wanted more B3! Mix critique might be back that heavy bass tone down just a smidge. It's really gonna come together for you on this one. Nice tune, it's sparse but not missing anything. Well, the "Barry White" vocal spoken towards the end I was not crazy about, for me that would hit the cutting room floor. Ah more sweet b3 in the end, love it, it fits the song. Super job RR. -Tom
  17. I'm so on the fence with this plugin. I've done did the demo. Have not pulled the trigger. Particularly because I use zynaptiq's Intensity on the master bus already. Do I fear a future where everyone's master bus uses 6 different automatic AI processors like Frei and sonible and oeksound and gullfoss and we just let them all fight it out with what they expand up and suck in?
  18. Level 42, "World Machine" straight outta 1985
  19. Earlier versions of Tracktion? Also, the cheep or freebie video editors like cyberpunk or maybe Adobe premiere all have those simple editing tools.
  20. Just great. Your vocal measures up. Love those panned guitars. Bass in the pocket. Cymbals have a real clarity. You are a mixmaster. Cheers, -Tom
  21. Very soothing Bjorn. Another gem pulled out of Uranus. ?
  22. Kudos, very nice playing and it seems inevitable that one day you will find a vocalist and lyrics for this. But the chord changes are really sweet and it's a great instrumental. Congrats on the c3. Cheers, -Tom
  23. Those glitches vocals were pretty neat. It's inspiring to listen to your stuff. "Call me what you will" has a great groove to it, it came on right after. Cheers! -Tom
  24. @Jesse Screed - ha! glad you like it and thanks, I think a silent film soundtrack would be cool! @jwnicholson78 - two excellent points. Thanks! It's obscure, and utterly unknowable to the listener, but that piano part "breakdown" represents something. That's all played in by me one take, unedited. Previously in bands I have been guilty of soloing too long, and in this case, the other band pieces have just stopped - and there I go, slowly realizing that I am the only one playing. It's embarrassing but ya gotta keep going . . . and then eventually it all comes back together. I'm sure that just leaves the listener utterly clueless as to what is going on - - - but that I think is intentional on my part. It adds something to the demented nature? Anyway, thanks so much, your input was very useful! @amiller - very cool, glad you liked it and thanks for the ear time. @Rik - the tuba I never thought of but it's a great add. I'll scour about one. Thanks for the listen!
  25. Hi John - I would be very proud if this collection was mine. Lots of cool variety and approaches in the songwriting. The mixes (I ran about six of the tunes) all held up, nice separation, and nothing really poked out weird. My favorite was Bass over 4 . . . it illustrates a great aspect of your songwriting which is taking a conventional rhythm and tweaking it into something more original and interesting. If you like "bass over 4" you might dig a four piece jazz funk band called "Junk" . . . cheers, -Tom
