  1. cool composition and I would consider continuing to find instruments - the piano is decent, actually, maybe some more natural room reverb on it. The violin to me is super artificial - and dry - maybe reverb helps that along, too. Extra kudos for some nice counterpoint along the way! cheers, -Tom
  2. mosh pit barrier lookin' a little flimsy! Love it, especially the ending. You guys are all great players. More venom than the Scorpions. cheers, -Tom
  3. Well, it's a nifty peppy toe tapper about a subject that seems pretty heavy. I've dealt with Alzheimers in my family and you can't help to see some humor in the unrelenting sadness of it all. I liked the bounce and the space latin vibe. The mix is so clear, all the elements are wonderfully differentiated. I say that every time, don't I? No crits. Good luck dealing. cheers, -Tom uh, P.S. it just occurs to me that maybe it isn't about Alzheimers. ???
  4. Mix is super well balanced, hard to find a crit. Maybe snare up a little? Overall I was expecting a few more punchy drum fills towards the end of a verse, going into a chorus - I think a few more of those might suit. There are some, just might drive it a little harder with some more drum fill tom n splash. I know, it's a ballad, don't wan t to overdo that. Cool tune! -Tom
  5. Don't forget the inverse correlation between participating in this forum, and winning a BRIT or Grammy or suchlike.
  6. I'll get me hat. Where's my hat? Oh, men without hats.
  7. Pro-Q 3 changed how I mix. Mid-side is brilliant. I want to go back and re-mix all my old mud. And Pro-L 2 is the best limiter I have ever used. Those two would be my pics. Wondering if the Fab reverb is any vast life changer? As I have several other excellent reverbs, does the Fab have any unique qualities?
  8. From the standpoint of composition, I thought it was great! Interesting chord progressions that don't go to cliche places. Very tasteful and well mixed instrument choices and arrangement ideas. From the standpoint of guitar tone, holy jeepers, very clear, wonderful harmony lines, extremely well played! A pleasure to listen to that guitar. And the supporting instruments just . . . support. The bass is perfect volume for me, the drums might come up, or closer to the listener, just a smidge. Beautiful! My crit might be the piano, do you have another instrument or vsti? This one has a midi honky tonk detuned sound and it's not half as tonally 3D as that wonderful guitar, and it bangs away rather dry compared to the more roomy tone of the rest of the arrangements. I listened several times. Joe Walsh would like this. I like it too! cheers, -Tom
  9. I smell the halls of the Crimson King of 2019. Nice yet brief, too brief.
  10. . . . if the whole rig and the surrounding pond were on fire. . .
  11. What's a cinnamon for aphasia?
  12. Or you could just stack 'em up like cordwood. Starting a new "unfinished song no. 456" is a lot more fun than actually finishing an old one.

  15. "15 Minutes of Shame" My son and his friend have generated a podcast series, to which I have, with their assistance, contributed some music. It's been fun to write some songs and to watch them learn the process of writing / editing / recording / editing / more editing. They worked hard and I just contributed a few tunes along the way. In particular, the "theme song" which is really featured in the last minute of each episode. Their commentary can get political, so fair warning. Thanks for giving it a spin if you have the time . . . cheers, -Tom Or this youtube link: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCj8PsuUfz3OhdeGZxPQbgzw
  16. Thanks @RexRed and yes part of my unfinished feeling is I should be doing exactly that . . . this one is going back into the woodshed. Thanks for the listen and the comment!
  17. the more I listen to it, the more unfinished this sounds. Many thanks for the encouragement so far. @Lynnmany thanks, the inspirating is mutual. @freddy j - thank you, I appreciate it. I think it needs some more cohesion, perhaps there is too much in the kitchen sink. @Wookiee - smiling, affirmative! Many thanks. I am slowly but surely working my way up to have the balls to write a proper electro-jazz piece a la Caravan Palace. Figuring this one out will hopefully help me do that. @bjornpdx- thanks much. There is a little Fellini in there for sure. @Joad - thanks, man! I listened to the Kurt Weill (I was only passably familiar, I had once played piano for a German woman who sand his songs) and yes very much in line with what I am trying on here. In that video, about half way through, there came some electric guitar/singer guy, sounded like Lou Reed trying to be a straight singer. WTF??? Thanks for the tip!
  18. Dear David Sanborn, You should have had your band play this one in the 90's. Your loss. great one H.S. cheers, -Tom
  19. Nice one. Cool mix, nothing really pops out. Nice chorus. Not to be confused with Binaca.
  20. What microphone are you using, what preamp or interface? Your stuff is getting quite good but my guess is you might upgrade something in the mic department. Am I wrong? I'd love to hear some shiny vocal clarity in the higher eq's - your song ideas are great and I think the vocals could be brighter in the mix. Is your vocal mic an sm57? OR are you eq'ing a crapton off the top? But anyway, cool song. A pleasure as always. cheers, -Tom ps great vocal delivery, I'm not commenting on your performance, which was way good indeed.

    Si tu savais

So very tasty! Nice one sir. -Tom
  22. Cool summer head bobber. I liked your vocals as I usually do! I liked the tambourine chorus and the organ was cool, I wanted more B3! Mix critique might be back that heavy bass tone down just a smidge. It's really gonna come together for you on this one. Nice tune, it's sparse but not missing anything. Well, the "Barry White" vocal spoken towards the end I was not crazy about, for me that would hit the cutting room floor. Ah more sweet b3 in the end, love it, it fits the song. Super job RR. -Tom
