It should come through the other device--the one that hasn't been disabled. The original problem related to an audio device that was not being used for Cakewalk's audio. The solution suggested was to turn off the device in Device Manager that wasn't being used. If you only have one audio device and you turn it off using device manager, you have a different problem than the one stated. Are you saying you only have one audio device?

Feature Request: Add right-click MIDI Learn / Remote Control to Tap Tempo Reason for request: pressing a mouse button to set the tempo is not intuitive, not natural, and inaccurate. Pressing a key on a keyboard (or any other preferred MIDI controller, e.g., pads on a drum machine, breath on a wind controller, etc.) are more intuitive, more natural, and more accurate.

Just a footnote: the PSP StompFilter currently $12 was $19.99 at Audio Deluxe in August. So if you were interested in it then, its less costly with this sale.

Feature Request - About the Controller Lane Pane
User 905133 replied to sergedaigno's topic in Feedback Loop
Thanks for the clarifications. It make sense to me to have pre-defined sets of automatically added automation lanes perhaps starting with all parameters exposed by specific soft synths that can be selected and de-selected to create different customized presets. -
Thanks @Xel Ohh for this tidbit and @abacab for prompting it. Looks like I updated to 4.2.2 mid-July (from an earlier version), but I have not done too much of anything serious with it since. I gave up on trying to use the ST4 Editor after first trying that. I have tons of hardware sampler and software banks (CDs and files) and would love to be able to use them in a reasonably full-featured contemporary multi-timbral soft synth. It is now on my list to explore. Found it in the user manual: Thanks for showing us this!!!

Feature Request - About the Controller Lane Pane
User 905133 replied to sergedaigno's topic in Feedback Loop
What do you mean by "default controllers?" I can think of several different things. Are you talking about hardware controllers seen by your computer (and CbB)? all the parameters exposed by a specific soft synth; by all soft synths in a project? all the CCs as defined by the MIDI Spec? something different? -
Awesome techniques. Thanks for sharing.

Nomad Factory plugins from Sonar Platinum?

Yes. I had edited the post with quote earlier but just put in the citation. I found them by clicking on the "Settings" link at the bottom of the plug-in box. In case someone else gets the same error code, this is what I did: Thanks.

I think I found the answer: ORIGINAL ISSUE: Since Emulator X3 can no longer be authorized on additional PCs (hence I cannot authorize it on my current audio PC), I picked up the jBridge demo. So far Proteus VX seems to work, but I get an unhappy message. (See below.) To tell Cakewalk to use jBridge, I used the plug-in manager and told Cakewalk to use the jBridge wrapper. Should I have done something different to get Cakewalk to use jBridge? Any suggestions? I suppose I could try installing an ancient E-Mu PCI card and see if Emulator X or X2 will work under Windows 10 but I seem to recall that only X3 worked with Windows 10. Thanks.

In fact, early in Sept. one retailer had a deal on an NI bundle that included FM8, Absynth, Massive, and I think something else--possibly FX. I was interested, but I hesitated and several days later it was gone. (I think it was $29.99.)

Unfortunately, the answer seems to be yes, they still do not have offline authorization. But at least they post that up front although it is at the bottom of the page:

If I remember correctly, the hard core advocates have made a case for an integrated sampler. My take-away from feature requests I read over the years is that the goal in part is to have built-in menus and assignable short-cuts that enable such things as highlighting of audio, selection of clips, etc. that cause various sample manipulation techniques to happen while doing normal editing within Cakewalk. To me, in many ways it is the audio equivalent of requests to integrate some CAL-like functions. For example, highlight a group of notes, right click, select "retrograde inversion," (or use a shortcut key assigned to retrograde inversion) and the notes get changed from within Cakewalk itself. I know I am not being comprehensive based on the feature requests I have read; this is just a summary of how I understand what has been meant by integration as opposed to using a plug-in. ADDENDUM: Here is just one of several threads that have posts that describe what an integrated sampler might look like: As abacab notes, different people have different ideas on what they mean by a sampler. However, some of the posts in that thread give insights on sampler integration (as opposed to using a sampler as a plug-in).

That's one of the things I like about Cakewalk--if it doesn't meet someone's needs for any reason at all, they don't have to use it. If this is your reason, feel free not to use it. Personally, I like that I can use plug-ins, but I can understand that some people find them problematic.

If someone has TONEX SE and then clicks on Buy for one of the Collections that's included in TONEX or TONEX MAX, what are they buying? Are they buying the tone models and the gear in just that collection or the entire tier? If its the entire tier, why is the store set up in collections?

Instrument tracks disappearing after restart
User 905133 replied to Duncan Gardiner's question in Q&A
I just duplicated this as follows: Open a midi file. Insert a soft synth. Point the midi file to the soft synth Save using Save, not Save As which allows users to change the file format. The presumption seems to be that users will know to change the file format, but new Cakewalk users might not realize that. Perhaps you want to put that in as a feature request--a warning that if a project has a soft synth that will be lost with the suggestion to use Save As to change to a Cakewalk file. Does Cakewalk have free vsti plugins?
User 905133 replied to RonyGN's topic in Instruments & Effects
If you mean non-DAW, Voltage Modular's Plug-In Host modules (part of VM's Core Bundle) can also be used to host many 64-bit VST Instruments, including the SI series. -
Creepy. I got a page that says: "Pick 5 artists you like To get you started, we've included some artists from your YouTube history" and they start off with images in circles--mostly artists I have watched, but with one of their choosing per row--and then a whole bunch of rows of circles they think I might like--most of whom I have heard of but don't listen to. I enjoyed Quartz, but that "Pick 5 artists you like" page creeps me out. They already know what I like. Do they think I will choose 5 artists I have never listened to? Oh. I think I get it. I clicked on "Explore" and it looks like they will do something algorithmic to feed me music (or make a playlist) that the algorithm (sonically similar) comes up with. Hmmmm. I haven't listened to The Fugs in a while. Maybe I should to see if they add them to my choices. "Algorithms were meant to be ***** with." ?

Talking about holograms doing concerts, I remember a few years ago reading how one of the Zappa kids was working on taking a holographic Frank Zappa on tour. I seem to recall this was around the time that the Zappa Family Trust was legally enjoining Dweezel from using the Zappa name and/or music (Zappa Plays Zappa). I read a while ago that they finally got over having legal wars, but I don't know if Holographic Frank ever "materialized." LOL. Just looked it up!!!! Weird!

Does Cakewalk have free vsti plugins?
User 905133 replied to RonyGN's topic in Instruments & Effects
What do you mean: "which can be used externally, like a synth or maybe a rompler?" VSTs are software (plug-ins) and need a host program to run. They are not hardware like a synth or a rompler. -
Over the past several months it looks like DSF has partnered with some companies. I recall seeing the Ensoniq/E-Mu Proteus line being offered on an AIR Music Tech webpage several months ago (under Expansions) and something more recently. I just checked. It looks like they are offered for AIR's Structure Free / Structure Pro. IIRC they were redone to work with AIR's products. I recall seeing another partnership after that. Maybe it was the Kontakt one. EDIT: Just looked at the new DSF site. Kontakt is the new one I remember seeing. Also disappointing is that Emulator X software can no longer be authorized. Several years ago I did see a forum that mentioned the availability of a hacked version, but I didn't pay much attention because I had a paid version. Note: I don't have NI's Kontakt or AIR's Structure; no idea which implementation is better, but I would be very surprised if they offered the same synth engine features of the hardware or the E-Mu software. https://www.digitalsoundfactory.com/product/e-mu-proteus-rack/ https://www.airmusictech.com/expansions.html

You are correct. We cannot download IK Premium Tone Models we don't already own without using the Try/Buy option. Both of the above Tone Models are "based on" the same Stomp, Amp, and Cab. The TONEX Software appears to allow me to download Tube Drive DLX, but not Boost That Deluxe. Since I already own Tube Drive Deluxe as part of CS, if I click the download button, the software seems to go into download mode, but just offers a preset already included. I have updated my posts. Thanks for the correction. BTW, it is unclear if the User Guide or the software is more current. In the software, filter options include Premium Tone Model and Free Tone Model. However, the User Manual says User Tone Model and Premium Tone Model. UPDATE: That being said, IK has both Premium Tone Models and Free Tone Models. In addition to a Free User Tone Model I also own a Free IK Tone Model. So evidently the software is more correct. So, now I have (own) 22 Tone Models: (a) 20 that came with CS, (b) 1 Free User Tone Model, and (c) 1 Free IK Tone Model. As we know, things may change!

I explored TONEX CS some more. With the search filter we have 5 choices under type: Amp & Cab, Complex Rig, Stomp, Amp, Stomp & Amp. I am still exploring and have only downloaded 1 user model so far. BTW, so far as I can tell the 20 downloads includes both user-generated models and IK premium models. [Corrected since the TONEX Software doesn't allow downloading IK Premium Tone Models not included in CS except by using the Try/Buy.] The one I downloaded (a user contribution) includes an Amp and a Cab. At present we can swap Amps and Cabs when we make our own presets. So, I loaded up the downloaded Amp and swapped out the Cab and vice versa. So far as I can tell at present we cannot swap stomps.** I seem to recall Peter saying wrt AT5 that the handling of stomps is non-trivial. So perhaps TONEX might someday also include the ability to swap stomps. In fact the actual chain bar has an unused space. This is not in the manual. So perhaps with improvements more flexibility (for AT5 and TONEX) will be added to create user presets with swappable stomps. [**See the User Manual, quoted below.] BTW, so far it seems that only some fields in the user presets are editable. For those who are not ready to update to a higher tier with unlimited downloads, the above suggests possible considerations for choosing to download models now, choosing a model that includes both an Amp & Cab v. just either an Amp or a Cab. Caveats: These are just some initial thoughts wrt to some explorations to date, things with IK are always subject to change, maybe at some point they will have a deal for CS owners such as 100 additional downloads for $9.99 ($6.99 with $3.00 in jam points), etc. I am not a guitarist, but I have been testing TONEX CS in Voltage Modular using AAS's Strum and some other plugins that have guitars, so I will probably never need a higher tier, but I can see opting for a batch of additional downloads. Even though some improvements are forthcoming, I like what what it can do in its current state. Looking forward to insights others come up with for using TONEX CS! FOOTNOTE: TONEX CS currently exposes 40 controllable parameters. (I am using Voltage Modular's Plug-In Host.) Many are switches that correspond with on/off switches in TONEX's Chain Bar, but many others have ranges of values. Note: With some IK products I have seen an issue involving (a) the control value, (b) the function change, and (c) the UI. For example, I think its Sampletron (maybe) where a function turns on and off with a certain midi CC value, but the UI element's on/off image changes with a different value. I found this to be true with at least one of the TONEX Chain function/UI element. Pure speculation: it could be a matter of scaling (128 values are mapped differently). Not sure and I have no plans to test all of the possible combinations! Almost forgot to mention: I do not see that presets can be switched remotely. From what I have seen many plug-ins omit Program Change (and more frequently Bank Select) and I go not see either of them in TONEX at present. If Program Change commands are available somewhere, please share how to do it!!! From page 11 of 72 of the current TONEX User Manual.

Source (about 7/8ths of the way down) NOTE: I could be wrong, the website could be wrong/misleading, etc. BTW, if you look at the comparison with the higher tiers, CS doesn't say "unlimited tone model creation" like the others do. I take that to mean we cannot create any tone models with CS. Again, I could be wrong, the website might be wrong/misleading, etc.
